Abstract

Abstract

The architecture of Puri Agung Karangasem shows important achievements in architectural progress and the trajectory of the meaning of ornaments shows the acculturation of Balinese, Chinese, and European cultures. Researchers have not found research on the milestones and meaning of ornaments in the Puri. The purpose of this research is to explain the important historical achievements and the meaning of architectural ornaments of Puri Agung Karangasem. A qualitative descriptive method is implemented to explain the milestones and meaning of architectural ornaments of Puri Agung Karangasem. Hermeneutic theory is used as an approach to uncover the historicity and interpretation of the meaning of the architectural ornaments of the Puri. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews and documentation, while as a source of data are ornaments on palace architecture, cultural experts, community leaders, and as key informants of Penglingsir Puri and Abdi Dalem Puri. The results of the study show that the architecture of Puri Agung Karangasem has a very important meaning and achievement in the history of Bali, especially in the context of the kingdom. The forms of ornaments found in Puri Agung Karangasem can be distinguished into three, namely ornaments in traditional Balise, Chinese and European styles, resulting in a combination of typical ornamental forms of Puri Agung Karangasem. From a hermeneutic perspective, these ornaments are signs that refer to certain aspects of social, religious, and political life in Bali, especially the kingdom of Karangasem. In addition, the ruler of Puri Agung Karangasem in ancient times had a fairly good cultural relationship with people from China and Europe, as reflected in the visualization of ornaments integrated into the architecture of the Puri.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze creative industry-based entrepreneurship development strategies by emphasizing the optimization of Social Media Marketing (SMM) in promoting ceramic craft products through the Onix Pottery brand. Within the context of the Independent Learning Campus (MBKM) program, this activity represents applied learning, requiring students not only to understand theory but also to initiate and build their own businesses. The research method used was descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques including interviews, observation, literature review, visual documentation, and market research using Google Trends. UD. Tri Surya Keramik was selected as a partner due to its strong track record in the ceramics industry since 1994. Onix Pottery, as a start-up, carries the "Ignition" design concept, employing a handmade approach and innovation in raw materials, a mixture of clay and sand from Mount Agung. Marketing is carried out using an SMM strategy that displays visual content of the production process to build brand awareness. This approach refers to Mahbub's (2020) view on the importance of digital transformation and supports Kotler and Keller's (2016) theory of product differentiation in increasing competitiveness. This research demonstrates that digital marketing strategies based on visual creativity and product innovation play a significant role in strengthening the position of start-up businesses in the creative industries sector. Onix Pottery serves as a concrete example of how combining craft skills, collaboration with experienced partners, and the use of social media can create sustainable economic opportunities. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for MSMEs and student entrepreneurs in building relevant and competitive brands in the digital era.

Abstract

A hotel is an accommodation facility that provides lodging facilities as well as commercial food and beverage services. Because it is commercial, the hotel is equipped with supporting facilities such as; halls, lobby, restaurants, management offices and others. Hotels are divided into several types whose classification is reviewed from various purposes such as; the purpose of the guest's arrival, the length of the guest's stay, the number of rooms, the location and based on the division of star hotel clusters. The number of hotels spread across Bali is directly proportional to the increasing need for exterior and interior complementary products, it is interesting to explore further in creating ceramic products made of earthenware and stoneware as an answer to the exterior and interior needs of a hotel. Based on this phenomenon, then this was realized in the implementation of the MBKM program of the Independent Project scheme. SP Gustami creation method is used such as exploration, design, and embodiment in the process of realizing the creation of ceramic products. Exploration is carried out in two steps, namely idea exploration and physical exploration as the basis for designing ceramic products. The design is carried out by visualizing the idea in the form of alternative sketches and selected sketches. The final process of this method is that the embodiment is carried out according to the selected sketch. The result is in the form of 4 functional ceramic products in the form of teapot products, shampoo holders, snack and fruit holders, and sleeping lamps, as well as 1 wall decoration work, by applying a brick motif arrangement decoration inspired by the Fourteen Roses Boutique Hotel concept, and applying glaze colors inspired by pink and maroon rose colors. The products that have been produced will later be used in the Intermediate Room of the Fourteen Roses Boutique Hotel aiming to provide comfort and harmony for each user.

Abstract

The rapid growth of Bali’s tourism sector has increased hotel occupancy and the frequency of bedsheet replacement, shortening the lifespan of linens and generating large amounts of textile waste. This waste is usually sold without processing, although used hotel linens have high potential as an environmentally friendly and economically valuable upcycling material. This study identifies the potential of hotel linen waste as a recyclable material and describes the process of turning it into value-added merchandise products. The research used a descriptive–collaborative method with a qualitative approach through direct field observation and a review of relevant literature. PT TRI Cinta Bumi, a creative industry engaged in sustainability, was involved to demonstrate how hotel linen waste can be transformed into merchandise. Processing stages included sorting fabrics by quality and color, designing to meet market trends, re-dyeing to enhance visual appeal, and sewing into prototypes. The products were then assessed for aesthetics and functionality and tested with limited market responses to determine acceptance. Findings show that upcycling techniques applied to retired hotel bedsheets produce functional, aesthetically appealing products well received by the market, such as bandanas, small bags, and scrunchies. These results indicate that using textile waste as an alternative raw material offers significant potential to support sustainable practices, design innovation, creative economic empowerment, and market expansion. Furthermore, the process provides new insights for the creative industry on the use of textile waste not only for merchandise but also for decorative items, experimental textile media, and collectible artworks.

Abstract

Sculpture is a form of three-dimensional visual expression that not only emphasizes aesthetic value but also embodies profound symbolic and spiritual meanings. In Balinese cultural tradition, the statue of Dewi Saraswati holds significant importance as a religious symbol representing knowledge, wisdom, and purity. These values have been passed down from generation to generation, making the statue not merely a work of art but also an integral part of religious practice and spiritual life. Therefore, the exploration of the creation of the Dewi Saraswati statue is considered relevant, particularly in the context of expanding artistic practices to other regions, such as South Lampung Regency. This exploration focuses on both the aesthetic aspects and technical processes involved in creating the statue using concrete as the primary material. Concrete is chosen for its durability, malleability, and strong visual expression. South Lampung is regarded as having great potential, both in terms of raw material availability and the local Hindu community’s demand for religious statues as decorative and symbolic elements in worship spaces and residential environments. The creation process adopts the "Three Stages Six Steps" method proposed by Gustami (2004), encompassing phases from initial observation to final evaluation. The result is a concrete Dewi Saraswati statue that not only highlights aesthetic quality but also carries strong symbolic meaning. These findings affirm that concrete has significant potential to be developed as an alternative medium for sculpture, particularly in the context of South Lampung’s cultural and artistic growth.

Abstract

Thousands of Ogoh-Ogoh (towering giant effigies) are paraded across Bali to welcome the arrival of the Saka New Year (Nyepi Day), which falls every March or April. This article examines the evolving aesthetics of these processions, tracing their shift from ritualistic giant figures meant to repel the destructive power of bhuta kala to contemporary hybrid mythic–popular forms that incorporate global pop-cultural icons and local socio-political characters. Employing qualitative methods such as visual ethnography, observation, and semiotic analysis, this study explores Ogoh-Ogoh production across Bali, where creative experimentation is especially vibrant. The findings reveal a significant aesthetic transformation driven by environmental regulations, competitive youth creativity, and the changing visual preferences of younger generations. Material innovations, including the use of LED lighting, have further intensified a performative orientation emphasizing spectacle and technical sophistication. Despite these shifts, ritual continuity endures, demonstrating that ogoh-ogoh remains a living, adaptive tradition in contemporary Balinese society.
