Abstract

A simple, portable visible reflectance spectrophotometer was developed for classifying the quality of Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb. The device was assembled using consumer electronic components: an LED as the light source, a DVD optical layer as the diffraction grating, and a webcam as the detector, with web-based software (Spectral Workbench) as the signal processor. The spectrophotometer's performance was evaluated using standard Sudan III samples and powdered C. xanthorrhiza samples from two quality classes (A and B). Spectral data were analysed using principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares (PLS) regression.  PCA successfully grouped Sudan III samples by concentration and classified C. xanthorrhiza by curcuminoid content. A PLS regression model was developed for quantifying Sudan III, yielding R² values of 0.9909 for both calibration and cross-validation, with RMSEs of 0.3821% and 0.4152%, respectively. The results closely matched those from a commercial spectrophotometer. A PLS-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) classification model for C. xanthorrhiza was also developed, achieving sensitivity and specificity values of 1. Additionally, semi-quantitative parameters such as decision limit (26.15% B), detection capability (41.06% B), and unreliability range (26.15–41.06% B) were calculated. The classification model showed strong sensitivity, specificity, and detection capabilities within acceptable limits. These findings suggest that this low-cost reflectance spectrophotometer, combined with chemometric methods, holds promise as a practical tool for the quality control of raw herbal materials.

Abstract

This study aims to determine how the role of the hamlet head in assisting the duties of the penghulu in kampung belutu, kandis sub-district. The theory in this study uses Pratina's theory (Salsabila, 2023: 28) there are four indicators in the role, namely authority, responsibility, clarity of purpose and scope of work. The method used is descriptive qualitative method. And the data collection techniques are through observation, interviews and documentation. With data analysis, namely data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. Based on the analysis of four indicators, namely that the role of the hamlet head is not optimal and has not been implemented properly.

Abstract

This study assesses the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) applications on academic performance among students of the Faculty of Science and Technology at Sunan Ampel State Islamic University Surabaya using the DeLone & McLean IS Success Model. A descriptive quantitative method was employed, collecting data from 100 students via online questionnaires. Regression analysis results indicate that system quality, information quality, and service quality contribute to academic performance by 20.2%, 10.8%, and 16.7% respectively, with a total contribution of 28.3%. The findings suggest that while AI applications play a role in academic performance, their impact is still limited. Future research is recommended to involve a broader respondent base and explore alternative theoretical models to gain a more comprehensive understanding of AI’s impact on education. This study aims to provide valuable insights for educational institutions in integrating AI technology to enhance learning quality.

Abstract

AbstractThe increasing coffee consumption in society, particularly in Pekanbaru City, has led to a rise in coffee waste, which can harm the environment due to methane gas emissions. However, spent coffee grounds contain bioactive compounds such as caffeine and chlorogenic acid that exhibit antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, making them potential natural ingredients for skin care. This community service program aimed to empower members of the PKK women’s group in Tobekgodang Village through the application of appropriate technology in processing coffee waste into antioxidant body scrub products. The activities included socialization, health education, demonstration, hands-on training, and evaluation using pre-test and post-test questionnaires. The results showed a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge, with the “good” knowledge category increasing from 8% to 88% (p < 0.05). The program effectively enhanced community awareness and skills in utilizing waste materials into value-added products, while also creating opportunities for small-scale, environmentally friendly businesses. It is expected that this initiative will serve as a sustainable community empowerment model supporting creative and green economic development. Keywords: coffee grounds; antioxidant; body scrub, appropriate technology, community empowerment.
