Abstract

Black cumin seed oil (MBJH) (Nigella sativa L.) is a well-known herb with pharmacology activities such as anticancer and anti-thrombocytopenia. The limitation of MBJH has poor absorption when using oral dosage form. The liquid SNEDDS (Self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system) of MBJH as an alternative formulation. However, the disadvantage of liquid-SNEDDS of MJBH was the interaction between the active ingredients with soft gelatin capsules. Hence, this study proposed to develop solid-SNEDDS as a new formulation of MBJH. Solid-SNEDDS of MBJH was prepared from liquid-SEDDS of MBJH by adsorption to solid carrier method, consisting of aerosil and crospovidone as the adsorbent. The characterization of S-SNEDDS was determined by emulsification time and percent transmittance. Micromeritics properties of S-SNEDDS such as the angle of repose, bulk and tap density parameter, compressibility index, and Hausner ratio were measured  before and after stored in stress condition (40 ̊ C ± 2 ̊ C and relative humidity of 75% ± 5% for 14 days). The result showed S-SNEDDS of MBJH with aerosil absorbent had better S-SNEDDS performance in both characteristics and micromeritics properties under stress conditions than crospovidone absorbent. In conclusion, the s-SNEDDS of black cumin oil by solid aerosil carrier method is promising for future research development of S-SNEDDS dosage form.

Abstract

Quercetin possesses low solubility and decreases oral bioavailability. One way to increase the bioavailability of quercetin is by formulating a self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system (SNEDDS). In vitro dissolution testing of SNEDDS needs to be carried out using a validated analytical method. This study aims to validate the quercetin analytical method in in vitro dissolution testing. Validation was carried out with two solvents, namely hydrochloric acid buffer pH 1.2 (HCl-1,2) and phosphate buffer pH 6.8 (PO-6.8). It tested some parameters, including linearity, detection limit (LoD), quantification limit (LoQ), accuracy, and precision. The quercetin calibration curve for both solvents has a value of r≥0.999. The LoD at HCl-1,2 and PO-6,8 were 0.26 ppm and 0.27 ppm, respectively. The LoQ of HCl-1,2 and PO-6,8 were 0.86 ppm and 0.91 ppm, respectively. The percentage recovery in both solvents was in the range of 80-110%. The relative standard deviation of the two solvents was less than 7.3%. The quercetin analytical method has been successfully validated as indicated by the results of linearity, detection limit, quantification limit, accuracy, and precision that met the requirements

Abstract

Topical preparations are dosage forms applied to the skin for local therapy. These topical preparations contain several types of bases that are used for drug formulations. This review aimed to determine the type of base that is effective and widely used in basil leaf preparations that function as antioxidants, antibacterial agents, and in wound healing. The research method is comparative, namely, reviewing research articles on formulations of basil leaf products with various concentrations of base types, hydrogels, emulgels, lotions, hydrocarbons, water solubility, absorption, water washing, M/A-type creams, and pastes. The recommended formulation is a gel base type that has physical characteristics, non-irritating properties, antioxidant activity, antibacterial activity, and wound healing. Abstract

Nanoemulgel is an emulsion preparation with a droplet size of 1–100 nm suspended in a hydrogel. This review delves into the research on the impact of incorporating excipient components in nanoemulgel formulations to create products with specific physical attributes for different active ingredients with antifungal, antibacterial, and wound-healing properties. The research approach involves comparing articles on nanoemulgel preparation formulations with different combinations of active ingredients and excipients, as well as their pharmacological effects. Enhancing the level of active ingredients and altering the excipients can boost the effectiveness of nanoemulgel formulations in combating fungi, bacteria, and promoting wound healing. Abstract

Tanaman mondocaki (Tabernaemontana divaricata (L.R.Br.)) merupakan tanaman dalam famili Apocynaceae. Review artikel ini dibuat untuk memberikan informasi tentang kegunaan tanaman mondokaki dalam pengobatan herbal. Literatur online dan offline digunakan untuk ulasan artikel ini. Literatur online bersumber dari publikasi jurnal lokal dan internasional yang bersumber dari penyedia jurnal di internet. Literatur offline menggunakan buku atau e-book. Berdasarkan literatur yang diperoleh, tanaman ini telah digunakan secara tradisional untuk mengobati berbagai penyakit seperti patah tulang, demam, sakit kepala, dan sebagainya. Metabolit sekunder tanaman ini telah diisolasi dari daun, bunga dan batang. Bagian daunnya mengandung alkaloid indole staffinin, dimer alkaloid indole seperti conofylline dan conofylidine. Bunga tanaman ini mengandung amyrin acetate, lupeol, sitosterol, stigmasterol, flavon dan apigenin. Batangnya mengandung coronidine, heyneanin dan voacristin. Tumbuhan ini memiliki efek farmakologi seperti anti-inflamasi, anti-kanker, anti-diabetes, analgesik, antioksidan, antimikroba dan efek lainnya.

Abstract

Emulgel is a pharmaceutical formulation that integrates the characteristics of both emulsions and gels, resulting in a semisolid product. The utilization of emulgel formulations has been shown to enhance the efficacy of drug delivery by facilitating deeper skin penetration and subsequently augmenting its pharmacological activity. The antioxidant and sunscreen properties of cinnamon bark extract make it suitable for incorporation into an emulgel formulation. Variations in the concentration of extracts and gelling agents can have an impact on the physical properties, stability, and pharmacological efficacy of the emulgel. The objective of this review is to ascertain the optimal concentrations of extracts and gelling agents in emulgel formulations for enhanced efficacy. The employed methodology entails conducting a comprehensive review of scholarly articles pertaining to emulgel formulations containing cinnamon bark extract. These formulations encompass a range of concentrations of both the extract itself and gelling agents, while also possessing antioxidant and sunscreen properties. The formulation that is recommended is one that satisfies the criteria pertaining to its physical attributes, stability, and pharmacological efficacy. The emulgel formulation that best meets the specified criteria consists of a 1% concentration of cinnamon bark extract in combination with the gelling agent Viscolam MAC 5%.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Diabetes melitus (DM) adalah penyakit yang disebabkan gagalnya pankreas memproduksi hormon insulin. Penyakit DM menjadi permasalahan kesehatan yang banyak terjadi di masyarakat Riau. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pemahaman terkait penanganan DM. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan ini berupa penyuluhan yang didukung dengan adanya pre dan post-test. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di kawasan CFD (Car Free Day) Kota Pekanbaru. Alat ukur yang digunakan adalah lembar checklist pre dan post-test serta hasilnya dihitung dengan menggunakan skala Guttmann. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah sebanyak 30 responden baik laki-laki maupun perempuan mempunyai pemahaman yang sama tentang DM yaitu 82%. Jika dilihat dari segi usia, mayoritas orang dewasa di usia prima memiliki pengetahuan yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan orang yang lebih tua. Mengenai tingkat pendidikan akhir, responden yang berpendidikan tinggi mempunyai pemahaman yang lebih baik (92%). Terkait status pekerjaan, responden yang berstatus bekerja memiliki pengetahuan paling tinggi (84%). Berdasarkan hasil kegiatan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara sebelum dan sesudah kegiatan penyuluhan. Hal ini terlihat dari nilai signifikansi <0,05 (0,000), artinya terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan secara deskriptif antara pre-test dan post-test. Tingkat pengetahuan yang didapatkan adalah rata-rata pengetahuan pre-test (baik) dan post-test (sangat baik). Kesimpulan yang didapat adalah terjadinya peningkatan pengetahuan dari baik menjasi sangat baik.   ABSTRACT Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a disease caused by the failure of the pancreas to produce the hormone insulin. DM is a health problem that occurs in many communities in Riau. This service activity aims to provide an understanding of DM management. The method of implementing this activity is in the form of counseling supported by the pre and post-test. This activity was carried out in the CFD (Car Free Day) area of Pekanbaru City. The measuring instrument used is a pre and post-test checklist sheet and the results are calculated using the Guttmann scale. The results of this service activity are as many as 30 respondents, both men and women, have the same understanding of DM, namely 82%. When viewed in terms of age, the majority of adults in prime age have higher knowledge than older people. Regarding the final level of education, respondents with higher education had a better understanding (92%). Regarding employment status, respondents who were employed had the highest knowledge (84%). Based on the results of the activity, there was a significant difference between before and after the counseling activity. This can be seen from the significance value <0.05 (0.000), meaning that there is a descriptively significant difference between the pre-test and post-test. The level of knowledge obtained is the average knowledge of pre-test (good) and post-test (very good). The conclusion is that there is an increase in knowledge from good to very good.

Abstract

Diabetes melitus (DM) merupakan suatu kelompok penyakit metabolik yang terjadi karena kelainan sekresi insulin, kerja insulin atau kedua-duanya. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk melihat pengaruh pemberian informasi media leaflet tentang diabetes pada usia muda serta memberikan informasi melalui edukasi terkait penyakit diabetes melitus. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilakukan dengan metode face to face kepada masyarakat yang ada di Car Free Day (CFD). Responden pada kegiatan penegabdian ini adalah masyarakat yang ada di CFD dengan total responden yaitu 50 orang. Hasil pretest dan post-test menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan yang signifikan, dengan p-value 0,000 dari uji Wilcoxon, yang menunjukkan adanya pengaruh positif dari edukasi yang diberikan.

Abstract

Gamma oryzanol and anthocyanin are bioactive components contained in red sticky rice bran (Oryza sativa L var. Glutinosa). These two ingredients function as natural antioxidants. Peel-off gel mask containing red glutinous rice bran extract is formulated with varying concentrations of polyvinyl alcohol F1 12%, F2 14%, and F3 16% as gelling agent. This research aims to formulate a peel-off gel mask and carry out an evaluation to obtain the best formula physically and with the highest antioxidant activity. Each formula was tested for organoleptic, homogeneity, pH value, physical stability during storage, spreading power and drying power of the preparation and skin irritation testing. The research results showed that F3 was the best formula in terms of physical and antioxidant activity with an inhibition percentage of 90.5827%. Based on one-way ANOVA analysis, there was a significant difference in antioxidant activity between peel-off gel mask formulas with a significant value of p<0.05.
