Abstract

The Indonesian government has made various efforts to prevent and control COVID-19. Implementing the new normal after the COVID-19 pandemic has encouraged people to do activities as before, with the obligation to implement strict health protocols. However, the incidence of COVID-19 in Indonesia continues to increase, as is Konawe Regency as the district with the first positive case report of COVID-19 in Southeast Sulawesi and currently has six sub-districts with red zone status. This is because many people are not aware of carrying out the government's appeal in implementing health protocols. This community service aims to increase public knowledge in efforts to control COVID-19 by applying health protocols. Educational activities carried out online through online media include video conferencing in the form of a webinar through Google Meet was attended by 86 participants, live streaming on social media Facebook and Instagram, broadcasting educational videos on local TV channels, and conducting offline activities in the form of installing educational posters. Education through online media is one of the uses of internet technology, and its reach is wide and can be a solution for education during the COVID-19 pandemic. The analysis results show that education through online media effectively increases public knowledge regarding COVID-19 and the application of health protocols in the normal new era.

Abstract

Background: Early marriage remains a social issue that negatively affects adolescents’ health, education, and overall well-being. Limited understanding among adolescents regarding the risks of early marriage highlights the need for structured and targeted educational interventions within the school setting. Objective: This activity aimed to increase adolescents’ knowledge and awareness of the definition, causes, and impacts of early marriage, while encouraging students to prioritize education and psychological readiness before entering marriage. Methods: This community service activity employed a descriptive design with an educational approach through interactive counseling on early marriage involving 35 twelfth-grade students at Kendari State High School 9. Data were collected through participatory observation and group discussions, and analyzed using descriptive qualitative methods. Results: The findings showed that students participated enthusiastically, actively engaged in discussions, and demonstrated an improved understanding of the health, psychological, social, and educational impacts of early marriage. In addition, students exhibited increased awareness of the importance of adopting healthy and responsible attitudes toward reproductive health. Conclusion: The socialization activity was effective in fostering critical attitudes and raising students’ awareness of the negative impacts of early marriage. Therefore, it has the potential to serve as a preventive effort to reduce child marriage and prevent the phenomenon of “children giving birth to children” in the school environment.

Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional period marked by various physical and psychological changes. The increasing curiosity of adolescents regarding the changes occurring in their bodies encourages them to seek information about these changes. However, this condition may influence attitudes and lead to risky behaviors if adolescents receive inaccurate information about reproductive health. The purpose of this activity was to improve the knowledge, understanding, and positive attitudes of students at Junior High School 14 Kendari in facing puberty. The target of the counseling activity was students of Junior High School 14 Kendari, consisting of a combined group from grades VII, VIII, and IX, with a total of 40 students representing each class, where two students were selected from each class. The methods used in this health education activity included educational video screening, interactive presentations, discussions, and question and answer sessions. The evaluation was conducted qualitatively through observation and student responses during the activity. The students demonstrated an understanding of the basic concepts of puberty, physical and psychological changes, and the importance of maintaining personal hygiene and health. This was reflected in students’ statements such as “now I know that the changes in my body are normal” and “I am no longer embarrassed to ask questions about puberty.” In addition, increased student participation in discussions indicated improved self-confidence in facing puberty. The conclusion of this activity is that health education can enhance adolescents’ knowledge and self confidence related to puberty

Abstract

Breast milk is the best food for babies, especially during the first six months of life. Exclusive breastfeeding has been proven to benefit babies' growth, development, and immunity, as well as providing health benefits for mothers. However, exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia has not yet met the national target. This is influenced by various factors, primarily mothers' knowledge. The purpose of this activity is to increase the understanding of pregnant and breastfeeding mothers about the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding, the correct methods and techniques of breastfeeding, and the importance of preparing oneself during pregnancy. The target audience for this activity is pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, with 15 participants. It is held at the Tebing Tinggi Health Center in the Abeli Public Health Center working area. The counseling method involved showing educational videos, delivering material interactively, holding discussions, and conducting question and answer sessions. The results of the activity showed enthusiasm and active participation from the participants during the counseling session. Participants were able to understand the definition of exclusive breastfeeding, the benefits of breast milk for babies and mothers, the appropriate time and method of breastfeeding, and the factors that influence the success of exclusive breastfeeding. This educational activity effectively increased mothers' knowledge and awareness of the importance of exclusive breastfeeding. It is hoped that ongoing education and support from families, health workers, and Posyandu cadres can improve the success of exclusive breastfeeding practices in the community.
