Abstract

(Title: Meaning Shift in Japanese Short Story “Hachi No Ji Yama”) A literary work will be translated properly according to the original text if an interpreter does the translation procedure appropriately. The translation procedure itself is divided into 14 types, but in the translation process from Japanese into Indonesian, there are three types which commonly used in procedures of the translation process.  It is  Transposition, Modulation, and Adaptation. This paper tried to explain the use of that three types of translation procedures in a Japanese short story. The short story used as the object of this paper was a children's short story entitled Hachi no Ji Yama by Tsuchida Kohei. Referring to the translation rules, the results are that the Hachi no Ji Yama short story uses 2 translation procedures, which is transposition and modulation. With the differences in the rules of language and grammatical structure between Indonesian and Japanese, the most widely used of transposition procedures are the first and second types, while the modulation used is free modulation.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze the intrinsic elements found in the short story Kagami Jigoku by Edogawa Rampo. By using structural methods the analysis process  find out the intrinsic elements which builds  the Kagami Jikoku short story. As a result it is known that the Kagami Jikoku is a short story with a mystery theme as the hallmark of Rampo as its author. The characteristic of this short story can be seen from the theme which raised the unusual obsession problem of the main characters. With the first person point of view which tells in unusual way from the other short stories, the regression plot in Kagami Jikoku is able to tell the unique phenomenon of Japanese society and its modern technology through elements of place, time and socio-cultural aspects of Japanese society in the modern era

Abstract

This research aims to describe the impact of inner pressure experienced by the main character Miyaichi Kazuki on his teenage life in the Hotto Roodo movie in terms of Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory. This research is included in the literature study. The method used in this research is literary sociology. The method used in this research is literary sociology because the formal object in this research is related to the psychological aspects of the character. The theory used in this research are narrative structure theory and Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory to analyze the impact of inner pressure experienced by the main character Miyaichi Kazuki on her teenage life in the Hotto Roodo movie by director Takahiro Miki. Based on the analysis of the process of fulfilling basic human needs in Kazuki's teenage life, the author finds that there is one basic human need that has been relatively fulfilled in Kazuki's life, namely physiological needs. Then the other four levels of needs appear to be unfulfilled in Kazuki's life. The unfulfillment of basic human needs in Kazuki's life led to various feelings that eventually caused mental distress for Kazuki's character. The effects of inner pressure experienced by the main character Miyaichi Kazuki in his teenage life in the film Hotto Roodo by director Takahiro Miki include fear, easily offended, insecure, depression, and physical and mental exhaustion.

Abstract

The background of this paper is based on the author's interest in folklore, especially fairy tales. By reading and studying the tales indirectly enrich the treasures of our knowledge, both knowledge related to the variety of ancient languages, as well as knowledge related to the original culture of other country . By reading a variety of the fairy tales,  authors often find the tales in one country that has similarities with the tales of other countries. One of that tales  is Indonesia  fairy tale and  Japanese fairy tale.From  the two texts  containing Indonesian tales and the Japanese tales, which is used as research data, the results of research show that some parts of that fairy tales have the same cultural background . However, nevertheless, from the differences , it can be concluded that Indonesian  tales and Japanese tales do not affect each other. It can be seen from the characteristics of each fairy tale which is a picture of the life of the community where the fairy tale was born.
