In this study, the writer observed the six categories of cognitive domains and the dominant order thinking skill applied in the questions on speaking skill. In order, to know the position of the student’s proficiency in the speaking skill questions used in this textbook. The data were collected from the textbook. The theory used was from Anderson and Krathwohl (2001) about Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy. This study showed that there were five from six categories of the cognitive domains applied in the questions on speaking skills used in the textbook, the dominant category was ‘remembering’ because in speaking skill students need to remember what they want to say and what people said. The writer found that the questions on speaking skill in this textbook belongs to lower order thinking skill because it was important for the students to master the lower order thinking skill before they achieve the higher order thinking.

Abstract

This project is a further step after taking an internship class in the previous semester. The writer had done an internship at Widjaja Music, music educational school located at Jalan Raya Darmo Permai Timur, No. 19P, West Surabaya, for 122 hours and 25 minutes within two months. Then, the writer found three problems in the institution during the internship, (1) the system of the music school is not good, (2) the facility for the administration is not well-supported, (3) and the music school does not have a clear background and history. Despite the writer’s position as an intern who does not have any power to make an important decision, she uses the company profile as the solution to make the improvements of those problems mentioned above. The company profile is specially designed for both customers and owners. For the customers, the writer emphasizes more on the good and strength side of Widjaja Music. For example, the good things about the various courses that Widjaja Music offers in the school. On the other hand, for the owner, the writer emphasizes more on evaluations that could build and strengthen Widjaja Music. For example, the thing that is not good enough is the personnel structure of the music school. By looking at the evaluation, the owner also could fix the weaknesses and keep the strengths of Widjaja Music. At last, the writer learned a lot about the music school throughout the process of making the company profile for Widjaja Music. Thus, the writer has known the basic things regarding the music school, which she found very useful later in her future career life.

Abstract

Fan subtitle or fansub is assumed to be substandard in terms of translation accuracy and naturalness. However, it is not truly known whether fansub translation is really poor in quality or that it can be accurate and natural. This qualitative research analyzes the naturalness and accuracy found in the fansub of an episode of a TV series “Supernatural”, in which the utterances of Dean and Sam Winchester are analyzed using Newmark’s theories on naturalness and accuracy in translation. The translation can be classified into several different categories, which are natural and accurate, unnatural and inaccurate, unnatural but accurate, and could be more natural but accurate. The findings of the research showed that the overall translation cannot be said as completely natural and accurate because it still contains inaccuracies and unnaturalness in its translation, but doesnot significantly change the original messages of the text. Keywords: Translation, Accuracy, Naturalness, Fansub, Supernatural

Abstract

Documenting the process of translation has several advantages for both teachers and students in a translation class in an English, or any language, department. It is not only useful for preventing the students from using translation applications in doing the assignments, but also useful for teaching them to evaluate and to revise their translation. Besides making students accustomed to expressing their thoughts in writing, process-oriented teaching inspires them to think in detail and inspires lecturers to conduct process-oriented translation research.
