Abstract

Medical students are particularly vulnerable to burnout due to the demanding and resource-constrained nature of their training. Burnout negatively impacts academic and personal well-being, potentially impacting future professional practice and patient care. To date, no studies have examined burnout prevalence among medical students in Aceh. The aim of this study was to determine the association between burnout and academic engagement among medical students at Syiah Kuala University, as well as the relationship with age, sex, and year of study. This cross-sectional study was conducted among medical students in Aceh, Indonesia, between October 1, 2021, and March 13, 2022. Total sampling was employed to select study participants. Data were collected using an e-questionnaire using the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory questionnaire adapted for students (OLBI-S) and Utrecht Work Engagement Scale for Students (UWES-S-9) for academic engagement. The total number of participants was 286 students. Most participants were female (n=202, 70.6%), while male students were 84 (29.3%). The prevalence of burnout was 36% (n=102). Gender (p=0.65) and study year (p=0.62) were not associated with disengagement, a subscale of the OLBI-S. Similarly, exhaustion scores did not differ significantly by gender (p=0.48) or study year (p=0.28). In conclusion, fewer than half of the medical students experienced burnout during the COVID-19 pandemic, with no association found between burnout and gender or study year.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Brain tumors are divided into two, primary and secondary brain tumors. Primary brain tumors are brain tumors that originate from the brain cells themselves. Meanwhile, secondary brain tumors are tumors that metastasize from tumors located in other parts of the body. Intracranial tumors require imaging modalities to make a diagnosis. Imaging examinations can reveal the type of tumor, location of the tumor, number of lesions, and some radiological features. However, information on imaging examination data of intracranial tumor patients is still limited, especially in Aceh, Indonesia. This study aims to determine the imaging profile of intracranial tumor patients at Dr Zainoel Abidin Regional General Hospital Banda Aceh. Methods: This study design was retrospective descriptive quantitative with the total sampling method. This study was conducted by observing all medical records of intracranial tumor patients recorded from January to December 2022 at Dr. Zainoel Abidin Regional General Hospital Banda Aceh. Results: A total of 88.5% (n=92) of the 104 registered cases were primary intracranial tumors. The most common patient profile was found to be in the range of 46-55 years (25%) and the majority was female (64.4%). The most common type of imaging used was contrast computed tomography (CT)-scan (38.5%), the most common location was supratentorial (74%), the most number of lesions was solitary (83.7%), the most common radiological picture was perifocal edema (66.3%), and the least radiological picture was communicating hydrocephalus (1.9%) and meningeal enhancement (1.9%). Conclusions:  There were more patients with primary intracranial tumors than with secondary intracranial tumors. CT scan was the most used imaging to diagnose intracranial tumors. The most intracranial tumors are supratentorial and solitary lesions with perifocal edema as common radiology features. dalities

Abstract

The vaping phenomenon among Generation Z (Gen Z) women has increased in popularity as an alternative to traditional cigarettes. As a group that has grown up in the digital era, they have easier access to information via the internet and social media, which has influenced their lifestyles and choices, including when it comes to smoking and vaping. The aim of this study was to understand how the vaping phenomenon affects Gen Z women. To address this question, our research provides an overview of the vaping-related phenomena occurring among Gen Z women. We conducted a literature review of eight publications covering five years, 20192024. The data indicated phenomena such as an increase in the number of vape users among women and an increase in aggressive vape advertising. Our study also explored the factors that lead to this phenomenon occurring and how the surrounding environment plays a very large role in this issue. Data suggested that the increase in vaping among Gen Z women is primarily due to environmental and peer influence factors. Therefore, to have better prevention and intervention strategies, peer influence should be taken into account.
