Abstract

Writing English essay requires complex abilities, such as critical thinking and academic writing and students often find it difficult. Beside they are using foreign language, the activities did not accommodate their personal traits and learning styles. This study was an attempt to find out the profile of students’ Multiple Intelligence (MI) and the effects of MI based activities on their essay writing skills. This experimental research was conducted in Universitas Muhammadiyah Magelang in 2020. Then 60 out of 160 fourth semester students of Elementary School Teacher Education Department were assigned as the sample. The primary data were obtained through tests supported by observation and interview. The data were assumed to be normal and homogenous. Based on the statistical analysis of Independent t-test, Sig. (2-tailed) 0.900 > 0.05. The average scores of posttest of Experimental Group also found greater than the one of control group. These concluded that MI based activities affected students’ essay writing skills. The results could be a beneficial reference in promoting students’ essay writing skills in higher education.

Abstract

 Family involvement in education plays a crucial role in shaping a child’s character. Children with solid character contribute to preparing the next generation to face the nation’s changes. This research analyzes the relationship between parental support and the disciplined character of 4th grade class B students at MI An Nuur Cahaya Umat. The research involved 16 4th grade class B students at MI An Nuur Cahaya Umat. This research is a correlational study. The data collection method was a questionnaire, with respondents filling out a checklist and guided by a Likert scale. The data analysis technique employed in this research is the Pearson product-moment correlation analysis by Karl Pearson. The data analysis was conducted to observe the relationship between two variables, using the parametric technique with paired sample t-test, resulting in a significance level of 0.040 and Pearson correlation score of 0.518, indicating a moderate correlation. Therefore, the research findings show a significant relationship between parental support and discipline character. Thus, the conclusion drawn from this research is that higher parental support leads to the formation of stronger discipline character in students. Conversely, lower parental support correlates with lower levels of student discipline.

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas tentang model pembelajaran memirsa. Tujuannya adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana penerapan model pembelajaran memirsa di kelas 1 (satu) SD Muhammadiyah Payaman. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan yaitu kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan observasi alami. Teknik penelitian menggunakan observasi non-partisipan yakni peneliti terlibat dalam pembelajaran dengan sistem shadow teacher. Metode pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan pencatatan lapangan, perekaman video atau audio, wawancara singkat dan analisis dokumentasi relevan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa model pembelajaran memirsa ditemukan pada beberapa mata pelajaran diantaranya Matematika, Pendidikan Pancasila dan Bahasa Jawa. Ditemukan sebanyak 30% aktivitas pembelajaran memirsa dari ketentuan yang ditetapkan pemerintah yaitu 25%. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran memirsa yang diterapkan sudah baik dan memenuhi ketentuan yang ditetapkan. Penelitian ini menekankan bahwa model pembelajaran memirsa penting untuk diterapkan di kelas guna meningkatkan keterampilan membaca dengan konteks visual (literasi visual) siswa. Melalui pendekatan yang tepat dilakukan oleh guru, keterampilan tersebut dapat dikembangkan oleh siswa dengan baik.
