EXPLORING ENGLISH FOREIGN LANGUAGE STUDENTSâ€™ LEARNING STRATEGIES IN READING ELT MATERIALS Rahayu Meliasari

This research aimed to reveal the type of language learning strategies dominantly used by the learners and the least type of learning strategies used by the learners. There were 10 students who were taken as the sample of participants. They are students who officially enrolled in Academic Reading Class in the second semester of English Study Program of Teacher Training and Education Faculty (FKIP) Tanjungpura University in Academic Year 2016/2017. Questionnaire consisting of 40 statements was distributed for data collection which in turn were analyzed by using mean score calculation. The analysis of the data revealed that the mean score of metacognitive learning style was 4.0 which indicated that this type of learning strategy fell into the highest frequency used by the students. Meanwhile, the average score for cognitive strategies was 3.7 in which it is categorized as the second rank of the learning strategy mostly used by the learners. The analysis toward compensation strategy resulted 3.5 for the mean score, and the average score for affective and social strategy reached average at 3.1 and 3.0 respectively. By contrast, memory strategy is the least type of learning strategy used by the students, reaching the mean only at 2,9.Keywords:Â EFL,Â Language Learning Strategies, Reading, ELT Materials

This research aimed to find how the implementation of podcast for entertaining public speaking skill and to find out the students responses toward the implementation of podcast in entertaining public speaking skill of English Education Study Program of IKIP PGRI Pontianak. This research used a case study approach.To obtain the data, the researcher used observation technique and direct commmunication technique, they were observation checklist and interview as tools of data collection. The subject of this research was the second semester students of IKIP PGRI Pontianak. To analyze the data, researcher used in this research was descriptive narrative. This technique is determined through three steps, Data Reduction, Data Display, and Conclussion(Miles and Huberman, 1984) from the results of observation checklist and interview.Implementing the podcast have advantages to students,one of them when the practice students of podcast can help improve students' english skills, especially in the speaking. The activities by video live podcast support the advantages of the implementation of podcast in public speaking cours, and implementation of podcast in public speaking course is very useful for students in improving their speaking skills due to interesting learning methods, so that they can increase their insight and confidence in doing public speaking. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana penerapan podcast untuk keterampilan berbicara di depan umum yang menghibur dan untuk mengetahui respon mahasiswa terhadap penerapan podcast dalam mata kuliah public speaking Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris IKIP PGRI Pontianak. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan studi kasus. Untuk memperoleh data, peneliti menggunakan teknik observasi dan teknik komunikasi langsung yaitu daftar periksa observasi dan wawancara sebagai alat pengumpulan data. Subyek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester dua IKIP PGRI Pontianak. Untuk menganalisis data, peneliti yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif naratif. Teknik ini ditentukan melalui tiga langkah, Reduksi Data, Penyajian Data, dan Kesimpulan (Miles dan Huberman, 1984) dari hasil checklist observasi dan wawancara. Penerapan podcast memiliki keuntungan bagi siswa, salah satunya ketika siswa berlatih podcast dapat membantu meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa Inggris siswa, khususnya dalam berbicara. Kegiatan dengan video live podcast mendukung keunggulan penerapan podcast dalam mata kuliah public speaking, dan penerapan podcast dalam mata kuliah public speaking sangat bermanfaat bagi mahasiswa dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara karena metode pembelajaran yang menarik, sehingga dapat menambah wawasan mereka. dan percaya diri dalam berbicara di depan umum. Ini bisa menjadi alasan bahwa menggunakan podcast untuk mengajar siswa bagaimana berbicara bahasa Inggris akan meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara mereka.

Tujuan program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk membantu sekolah menghadapi masa transisi pasca pandemi Covid-19 dengan cara membantu mempersiapkan lingkungan yang nyaman untuk siswa dan guru dan membantu mengenalkan pengajaran yang interaktif dan menyenangkan melalui pelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang masih belum menjadi tuntutan di awal Tahun 2022. Tiga sekolah yang disurvei menjadi lokasi program ini, yaitu SDN 07 Sungai Kakap, SDN 20 Sungai Kakap, dan MIS Miftahussalam yang berada di Desa Punggur Kecil, Sungai Kakap, Kubu Raya. Dua kegiatan utama yang dilakukan di program ini adalah gotong royong membersihkan lingkungan sekitar desa dan mengenalkan pembelajaran yang interaktif dan menarik melalui mata pelajaran Bahasa. Mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris dilibatkan untuk membantu memberikan hasil yang optimal. Hasilnya, lingkungan sekolah menjadi bersih dan nyaman untuk siswa dan guru untuk belajar. Selain itu, siswa juga berpartisipasi dalam pembelajaran yang interaktif dan menyenangkan yang tidak hanya dapat membuat siswa lebih menyukai Bahasa Inggris tetapi juga membantu siswa untuk melihat proses belajar bisa sangat menyenangkan untuk diikuti pada masa transisi pasca pandemic Covid-19.

AbstractThis study aimed to describe the implementation of teaching assistance program and the challenges in implementing teaching assitance program at SMA Panca Bhakti Pontianak. This study used a descriptive study. The techniques of data collection were direct communication technique and direct observation technique. The tools of data collection were observation, and interview. The subject of this research were 7th semester students of IKIP PGRI Pontianak and the students in grade 10 and 11 of SMA Panca Bhakti Pontianak.The results of the research showed that the implementation of teaching assisstance program was succesfully regarded. All of participants carried out all the activities that have been previously arranged by the lecturers who guide them in implementing this program, even though there was one aspect of activity that all of participants could not implement because of learning at school was still limited due to the pandemic. As for challenges during the program, all of participants faced various challenges such as, in management or administration of education, in making lesson plans (RPP), students' network when online learning, the passive student when learning process, and one of participant who was still stiff in teaching.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka di SMP Negeri Pontianak. Metode dalam penelitian ini menggunakan deskriptif kualitatif, yaitu mendeskripsikan subjek tentang situasi dan data yang diperoleh selama wawancara dan observasi sehingga menjadi informasi yang berguna dan mudah dipahami oleh pembaca. Penelitian ini memberikan gambaran dan penjelasan mengenai kemajuan, tantangan, dan rekomendasi standar pasca Kurikulum Merdeka di SMP. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka telah dilaksanakan dengan baik dan berkelanjutan, dimana dirasakan adanya kemajuan terutama dalam pembelajaran, meskipun demikian masih terdapat kendala dalam pelaksanaannya sehingga perlu adanya kerjasama yang baik antar pihak. sekolah, kepala sekolah, guru, siswa, dan orang tua.

This research evaluates the efficacy of the discovery learning method in enhancing reading comprehension for tenth-grade students at SMK Mandiri Pontianak in the academic year 2023/2024. Employing a pre-experimental design, the sample for this study was chosen from the TKJ A class using cluster random sampling. The data collection process included both pre-tests and post-tests. Findings indicated a significant improvement in students' reading comprehension through the implementation of the discovery learning method, evident in the transition from a pre-test score of 61 (averaged) to a post-test score of 83 (excellent Statistical analysis through the t-test validated a noteworthy distinction (a < 0.05), affirming the dismissal of the null hypothesis (H0). This signifies a statistically significant enhancement in reading comprehension following the implementation of the discovery learning method.
