Abstract

Lima bean (Phaseolus lunatus L.) is one of the important legume vegetables in Indonesia. However, genetic information for these plants is still minimalized, especially on Timor Island. This study aims to analyze the genetic diversity of lima beans from Timor Island based on ISSR molecular markers. A total of 4 accessions of lima beans were analyzed using 3 ISSR primers to produce 15 polymorphic bands with an average of 68.18% polymorphism. The cluster analysis results use the Unweighted Pair Group Methods using Arithmetic averages (UPGMA) method to create a dendrogram that produces two main clusters. There were plain seed and pattern seed group with a similarity coefficient of 0.52. These results indicated that the genetic variation of the lima beans from Timor Island was high. Moreover, the result provides a sutable method for evaluating the genetic diversity of lima beans using the ISSR marker and important information of future lima bean breeding programs.

Abstract

Marble is one of the industrial materials of high economic value and very beneficial to people's lives. Therefore, many explorations are done by mining companies. Exploitation of natural resources on a large scale without regard to the carrying capacity of the environment, can lead to drastic decline in the quality of the ecosystem. This is what happened in the post-mine forest area of Oenbit Village, North Central Timor District. This study aims to identify and calculate the abundance of plants and environmental factors that affect the plants in the post-marble area of Oenbit village. The method used is quadratic / plot method. The results showed that plant species with significant values above 80.00% were Anacardium occidentale L. (125.69%), Tamarindus indica L. (122.17%), Tectona grandis L.f (87.32%), and Schleichera oleosa (Lour .) Oken (82.67%). Abiotic environmental factors measured at the study sites are soil pH, soil moisture, air temperature, air humidity and light intensity. The results of these measurements showed no significant difference.

Abstract

The training on tempeh fermentation from pigeon pea was carried out by a lecturer team from Timor University to the people of Tublopo Village (Sehati Farmer Group). Tublopo Village has one of the natural resources that potentially to be developed, namely Pigeon pea. The lack of knowledge and skills of the local community in processing the abundant pigeon pea is the reason for conducting this activity. Training on pigeon pea processing into tempeh can improve the selling value of the product and produce products with new innovations that have better quality. The used method in this service activity is in the form of counseling and the practice of making pigeon pea tempeh. At the counseling stage, the service team described the employed materials, tools and the steps for tempeh fermentation, then continued with a demonstration of making tempe according to the described stages. The main product from this service is pigeon pea tempeh. In addition to tempe products, members of the Sehati Farmer Group have been equipped with the knowledge and skills to produce tempe independently.

Abstract

Abstract

The people of Dusun Banopo mostly work as farmers who produce a variety of agricultural products. One of the products produced is mung beans. The yield of bean sprouts is very good and plentiful, however the utilization of this product is still very low, especially in supporting family health and increasing family income. Most of the produce is sold immediately and a quarter of the harvested are usually left at home to be cooked with corn. Mung bean seeds can be germinated into bean sprouts which have a higher nutritional content and can be used as marketed products. This service activity was well received by the community, especially the women from the Women Farmers Group. This group gains knowledge and skills in making bean sprouts with media that can be taken from the surrounding environment. Besides being able to be used as a nutritious vegetable in improving family health, it can also marketed to increase family income.

Abstract

Mangroves are important ecosystems in coastal areas that have a major influence on the survival of the biota in them. This study aims to inventory the existence of mangrove species in the coastal area of Jenilu Village, Kakuluk Mesak District, Belu Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. The method used is the observation method. Data obtained by means of inventory and identification of mangrove species. The results showed that there were 2 mangrove species from the Rhizophoraceae Family, Order Malpighiales, namely Rhizophora apiculata Blum and Rhizophora mucronata Poir. These two species are distinguished based on the characters on their morphological characteristics. The data from this research can become the basic data for species development and subsequent conservation efforts.
