Abstract

Tegal Sari Mandala III in the Medan Denai District is a residential area characterized by poor sanitation and a high risk of flooding, making it a mild slum. To prevent slum conditions from becoming normalized in Indonesian society, it is essential to address and eliminate such settlements. Each location presents unique challenges and requires tailored solutions to tackle slum issues effectively. This research employs both qualitative and quantitative methods, which are suitable for examining slum areas. The analysis reveals that the primary problems include poor environmental maintenance, such as garbage accumulation and improper waste management, leading to flooding, polluted rivers, and foul-smelling surroundings. Solutions to these issues include developing and enhancing the settlement quality by establishing a night market and creating green spaces along the banks of the Sulang Saling River.

Abstract

The design of a creative industry development center that focuses on the culinary and music subsectors aims to facilitate the growth and development of creative industry players in these two subsectors, so that they can contribute positively to the local economy. The facilities in this center will be designed to meet the needs of production, training, exhibition, and sales in the culinary and music subsectors. It is expected that the design of the Creative Industry Development Center will encourage local economic growth, create new jobs, improve the skills of industry players, and support the image of Medan City as a quality creative industry center. By connecting the culinary and music subsectors in one center, the synergy between the two can produce unique and inspiring collaborations, enrich local culture, and present products that are competitive in the global market. By applying a tropical architecture approach, the design will consider aspects of local culture, climate, and environment in designing optimal buildings and spaces to support the growth of creative industries.

Abstract

Abstract: Pematang Raya is the new capital city of Simalungun Regency, North Sumatera, Indonesia which used to be seated in Pematangsiantar. This capital city was formed on June 23rd, 2008 and some of the government institutions of Simalungun Regency have already been seated at Pematang Raya. As an example, The Regency Police of Simalungun and the District Military Command of Simalungun, which are one of the legal institutions, have already been seated at Pematang Raya while the District Court IB of Simalungun and the District Attorney of Simalungun are still seated at Pematangsiantar. JR Saragih, who is the regent of Simalungun Regency, is eager to move the seat of the District Court IB of Simalungun and the District Attorney of Simalungun to Pematang Raya. Simalungun Regency does not have any penitentiary until this day. That is why the inmates who get terms at the District Court IB of Simalungun are sent to Pematangsiantar Penitentiary. Researchers identify the need of Simalungun Regency to increase the strength of the legal institutions in Simalungun Regency by designing a penitentiary. As an addition, the penitentiaries in Indonesia are getting worse time by time. Analysis and concepts of this design are using the interpretation of Panopticon Architecture which emphasizes a maximum supervision to the penitentiary. Keywords: Simalungun, Panopticon Architecture, PenitentiaryAbstrak: Pematang Raya merupakan Ibukota baru Kabupaten Simalungun, Sumatera Utara, Indonesia yang dulunya adalah Pematangsiantar.

Abstract

Medan City is the 3rd largest metropolitan city in Indonesia with 70% of Medan's people being of productive age. This shows that the city of Medan has the potential to develop in the creative industry, but the lack of a platform to support the growth of creative ideas hinders this potential. A container is needed that meets the aspects of comfort, openness and accessibility. Based on the existing problems, a view emerged to design the "Medan Art Creative Center" with the theme approach that will be used to design this facility, namely Neo- Vernacular Architecture. Neo-Vernacular architecture is an architectural concept that incorporates elements of surrounding culture into buildings by applying patterns or motifs typical of the place itself. Apart from that, the use of a neo- vernacular theme is also in line with the building's function, namely as an arts and cultural facility, where the aim of this project is to introduce the surrounding culture to local people and tourists from outside the area.

Abstract

Abstract

Spatial thinking skills are essential in everyday life. These skills can be improved through geography learning. Various studies on efforts to improve spatial thinking skills through geography education have been conducted in Indonesia; however, none have specifically examined the various models, teaching materials, and learning outcomes. Through a comprehensive review of previous findings, this study was conducted to fill this gap. The results of this study can be helpful for teachers and researchers in further developing geography education. This study employs a qualitative research design, specifically a document study or literature review. Publish or Perish software is used in the process of exploring or conducting literature searches. Through the initial search process, a total of 61 documents were obtained. These documents were then reviewed individually, resulting in a total of 16 documents that met the inclusion criteria. The results of the study showed that the most widely applied geography learning model was Project-Based Learning, followed by Discovery Learning and EarthComm. The teaching materials used are Disaster and Disaster Management, Basics of Mapping, Remote Sensing, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Atmosphere, Hydrosphere, Lithosphere Dynamics and Its Impact on Life, and Potential of Indonesian Marine Waters. Through the application of the learning model, various improvements were obtained in several indicators of spatial skills. The Project-Based Learning model is the most successful approach in improving various indicators of spatial thinking skills, including Analogy, Aura, Pattern, Association, Form, and Analysis.
