Abstract

Until now, livestock waste, both cows and sheep, in Sukasirnarasa Village has not been managed optimally, and in fact tends to be a source of environmental pollution. According to these condition, educational activities were carried out on the use of livestock manure through magot cultivation for the Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT) in Sukasirnarasa Village, Rancakalong District, Sumedang Regency. The service method used is Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR). There were 40 (forty) KWT members who took part in this activity. The educational background of the participants was elementary school 9 people (22.5 %), junior high school 23 people (57.5 %), high school 7 people (17.5 %) and bachelor's degree 1 person (2.5 %). A total of 25 participants, equivalent to 62.5%, stated that they already knew about black soldier flies (BSF), while the remaining 15 people (37.5%) did not know. Twenty-eight participants (70%) stated that they did not know the potential of cow dung other than as fertilizer, and 29 people (72.5%) did not know the potential of BSF in bioconversion. Most of the participants provided very important answers to all the questions asked. The training activities and use of cow dung were enthusiastically attended by members of the Sukasirnarasa Village KWT

Abstract

The romaine lettuce plant is a plant whose production continues to increase so that the demand for romaine lettuce in Indonesia is not sufficient due to inefficient cultivation. This means that romaine lettuce plants have to be imported to meet the needs of the community but do not meet market needs. Providing cassava fertilizer from household waste feed is one effort to meet the nutritional needs of romaine lettuce, so that production can increase. This research aims to determine the effect of different doses of cassava fertilizer on the growth and yield of romaine lettuce plants (Lactuca sativa L. var longifolia.). This research was carried out from February to July 2024 at the Land Balai Pengembangan dan Produksi Benih Perkebunan (BPPBP) and at Labolatorium Teknologi Benih Universitas Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. This research used a Randomized Group Design (RAK) consisting of 6 treatments and 4 replications. Each experimental unit contained 3 plant samples, so that 72 plant samples were obtained (A= Control (soil); B= Kasgot organic fertilizer 9 t ha-1; B= Kasgot organic fertilizer 10 t ha-1; C= Kasgot organic fertilizer 11 t ha-1; D= Kasgot organic fertilizer 12 t ha-1; F= NPK 16:16:16). The results of the study showed that the use of cashew fertilizer with household waste feed had an effect on the growth and yield of romaine lettuce plants with an effective dose of 10 t ha-1.

Abstract

Spodoptera litura, juga dikenal sebagai ulat grayak, merupakan serangga hama bagi berbagai tanaman termasuk hama kailan (Brassica oleracea). Ekstrak biji sirsak (Annona muricata) (EBS) memiliki sifat insektisida. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan uji in vitro maupun in vivo mengenai efek EBS terhadap Spodoptera litura dan Brassica oleracea var. Allboglabra. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan April-Juli 2023. Perlakuan terdiri dari K0 = Kontrol (tanpa EBS), K1 = 1 % EBS, K2 = 2 % EBS, K3 = 3 % EBS, K4 = 4 % EBS, K5 = 5 % EBS. Parameter pengamatan terdiri dari mortalitas S. litura in vitro (%), mortalitas S. litura in vivo (%), intensitas serangan S. litura (%), tinggi tanaman (cm), jumlah daun (helai), bobot segar tanaman (g), dan indeks panen. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis ragam, bila berpengaruh nyata dilanjutkan dengan uji jarak berganda Duncan. Hasil penelitian menujukkan bahwa mortalitas S. litura in vitro dan in vivo meningkat mengikuti konsentrasi EBS dan waktu setelah aplikasi. Konsentrasi EBS 1% sudah efektif dalam mengendalikan mortalitas S. litura. Meningkatnya konsentrasi EBS berdampak menurunkan intensitas serangan S. litura. Kecuali indeks panen, parameter pertumbuhan tanaman kailan seperti tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, bobot segar, dan bobot kering kailan tidak dipengaruhi oleh konsentrasi EBS

Abstract

Indonesia has very hot temperatures and high humidity, making it unfavorable for sheep whose covered with thick fur. Shearing enlarges and accelerates heat dissipation from the sheep's body, giving antioxidants that help reduce the negative effects of excessive free radical production.  Ascorbic acid is an antioxidant but is easily decomposed when it enters the digestive system of ruminants. Ascorbyl palmitate (AP) is ascorbic acid in the form of an ester which is insoluble in water. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of shearing and administration of AP antioxidants on oxidative stress conditions in Padjadjaran sheep subjected to heat shock.   The shaving treatment consisted of not shaving (s0) and shearing (s1),and the treatment of giving the antioxidant ascorbyl palmitate consisted of not being given (a0) and being given (a1).  Sheep were subjected to shearing, their hair was trimmed until ± 10 mm in length was left, and sheep as object of study were treated with ascorbyl palmitate at a dose of 400 mg head-1 day-1. The combination treatment was not shaved – not given the antioxidant ascorbyl palmitate (s0a0), only shaved (s1a0), only given the antioxidant ascorbyl palmitate (s0a1), and sheared – given the antioxidant ascorbyl palmitate (s1a1).  Heat shock is given by exposing the sheep to the sun. The oxidative stress observed and analyzed was the profile of endogenous antioxidants consisting of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and malondialdehyde (MDA). The results showed that the combination of shearing and Ascorbyl Palmitate had a significant effect (p<0.05) on the levels of SOD, CAT and GSH-Px in Padjadjaran sheep receiving heat stress.  The conclusion from this study, the shearing treatment and the administration of Ascorbyl palmitate, both independently and in combination, had a beneficial effect on Padjadjaran sheep.
