Abstract

Amphiprion is one of the genera in the Pomacentridae family which is dominant on coral reefs in the waters of Ambon Island. This fish has interesting morphological characteristics, unique reproductive behavior, and has a symbiosis with sea anemones as a host and has high adaptability in captivity. The diversity of species in the genus Amphiprion is high based on varying morphological characters. The purpose of this study was to characterize the morphometric and meristic characters of five types of clown fish (Amphiprion sp.) from the island of Ambon. The morphometric characteristics were measured by measuring 24 characters, while the meristic characteristics were calculated using 5 characters in parent fish Amphiprion clarkii, A. frenatus, A. ocellaris, A. percula, and A. sandaracinos which had been kept for 1 year at the Ambon Marine Aquaculture Center. The data of morphometric and meristic characteristics were evaluated using principal component analysis (PCA). The relationship between individuals was analyzed using genetic distance based on the UPGMA program from PAST software. The results of PCA analysis showed differences in morphometric characters and the five types of clownfish formed two main clusters, the first cluster consisted of A. ocellaris and A. percula and A. sandaracinos, and the second cluster consisted of A. clarkii and A. frenatus. This clustering can provide information for breeders and cultivators in the development of clown fish cultivation in breeding programs.

Abstract

White seabass (Lates calcarifer) is classified as a fishery commodity that has a high selling value with an easy cultivation method. However, water quality is an obstacle in the fish cultivation process. Therefore, it is necessary to implement an appropriate cultivation system, including a recirculation aquaculture system (RAS). RAS is reuse of water that has been used through a filter so that fish with high growth and survival are obtained. The aim of the research was to analyze the growth performance of white seabass cultivated with RAS. The research was conducted at the Mariculture Laboratory of the Aquaculture Technology Study Program, Tual State Polytechnic of Fisheries in June to August 2024. The research was used a descriptive type with initial length measurements (4 and 5 cm) and was repeated 3 times. A total of 10 fish were kept in a hapa in a rearing tank and equipped with RAS using sand and charcoal filters. Growth performance were measured included body length, body weight, growth rate, and survival rate. The research results show that the RAS system determines the growth performance of white seabass. This is evidenced by the increasing average increase in length and body weight. At an initial length of 4 cm, the average increase was 6.5 cm and 4.25 g, while at an initial length of 5 cm it was 8.3 cm and 6.5 g. The average survival rate was 75% at an initial fish size of 4 cm and 86% at an initial fish size of 5 cm. Thus, the RAS system can be applied in white seabass cultivation.

Abstract

Background: Amphiprion biaculeatus, Bloch 1790 is one of the exported marine ornamental fish commodities. To meet export demand, must be from cultivation fish. However, the problem faced in cultivation conditions is that the color of the fish is not as attractive as in nature. This is due to uniform feeding. Therefore, alternative solutions are needed to enrich feed with natural pigment sources. One of them is red ripe tomato extract with high carotene content. Methods: The study used a completely randomized design with extract concentration treatments (0, 25%, 50%, 75%). Natural feed is made by coating, then applied to non-breeder sized fish obtained from BPBL Ambon. Extract efficiency parameters were measured through color characteristics, carotene content in the skin and fins, total length and body weight. The data obtained were analyzed using ANOVA and continued with the DMRT test at a significance level of 95%. Results: The results showed that tomato extract had a significant effect on color characteristics, carotenoid content, total length and body weight in maroon clownfish. The concentration of tomato extract which had the highest value for all parameters measured was in treatment 75% : 75 mL tomato extract + 10 mL binder + 15 g commercial feed). Conclusion: Tomato extract has the potential as a natural feed that can improve the color quality of A. biaculeatus with a usable concentration of 75%.

Abstract

Maluku are known as the national fish barn and the largest fishing centre in Indonesia. One type of fish caught in Maluku is white snapper (Lates calcarifer), which is in high demand in the market. Therefore, intensification of aquaculture is essential. Determining factors for successful aquaculture include the stocking density of fry in aquaculture containers. The objective of this study was to determine effect of the stocking density on growth performance of white snapper cultivated in hapa. This observation took place over a month at the Hatchery Laboratory of the Aquaculture Technology Study Programme at the Tual State Fisheries Polytechnic. This study was used a completely randomised factorial design consisting of stocking densities of 10 fish/hapa, 15 fish/hapa, and 20 fish per hapa. Each treatment was repeated three times. The white snapper fish were obtained from the Tual Marine Cultivation Centre with a uniform size of 5-6 cm. The fish were cultivated in 40x40x40 cm hapa in fibre tanks using the RAS method and were fed commercial feed ad libitum. The growth parameters measured were length, weight, and growth rate of the fish. The data were analysed using one-way analysis of variance and followed by the DMRT test in the SPSS 22.0 program. The results showed that stocking density had a significant effect on the growth of white snapper during cultivation. The stocking density treatment of 10 fish/hapa had higher length and weight measurements each week of observation compared to other treatments. Thus, the lower the stocking density of white snapper in the hapa, the higher its growth. To achieve optimal growth in aquaculture, it is recommended to use a low stocking density of fish.

Abstract

Suli village is one of the areas in Maluku Islands which has natural resources and high water aesthetic value so that it is used as an ecotourism area both domestically and internationally. However, currently the potential of its waters is experiencing a decline in population due to the activities of local communities. One of them is excessive fishing of marine ornamental fish for market purposes and food needs. One type of marine ornamental fish that is caught is the giru clownfish (Amphiprion clarkii). To preserve this type of ornamental fish, conservation efforts are needed so that it remains sustainable and conserved. One of them is restocking to increase fish stocks in nature. In this regard, the service team as part of environmental and fisheries observers felt it was necessary to carry out the activities. This activity began with cultivation phase Ambon Sea Aquaculture Fisheries Center, coordinating situation analysis in the waters of Suli, surveying restocking locations and restocking activities and then monitoring and evaluation. The results of this activity show that the service team succeeded in cultivating giru clownfish from 3 pairs of broodstocks and produced fry four times after hatching. The results of seed maintenance were followed by restocking as many 600 individual giru clownfish seeds measuring 5 cm at three spots. Based on monitoring and evaluation results, the fish seeds are able to adapt and survive in different environmental conditions. Thus, conservation efforts are needed through continue restocking of ornamental fish to maintain resource potential and increase opportunities for sustainable ecotourism.
