Abstract

This research was aimed at describing what learning styles dominate the students' reading and writing abilities and how E-6tslearning improve the the fourth semester students’ reading and writing skills of the English Language Education Study Program of Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Pekalongan University. The writer used classroom action research (CAR) with 28 students as samples. The writer used planning, acting, observing and reflecting cycles. The writer used questionnaires to determine students’ learning styles and their satisfaction with the use of E-6tslearning and tests to measure their reading and writing skills. The results of the questionnaire analysis showed that there were three learning styles; those were visual, auditory and kinesthetic. From the results of the comparison of pre-test and post-test, students with kinesthetic learning styles experienced the best improvement of all, the visual group was the second one and the auditory group got the lowest achievement. The results of the pre-test and post-test comparison show an improvement in students' skills and motivation. This proves that the use of e-6tslearning can improve students' reading and writing skills. The results of the questionnaire analysis of student satisfaction on the use of e-6tslearning shows that learning by using e-6tslearning, students can improve their reading and writing skills and digital literacy. They can learn with fun with and without lecturer’s assistance.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the types of language styles based on the level of formality theory by Joos in Sutherland (2016), identify the most frequent language used, and explain its implications in teaching speaking. The method used in this research was a descriptive qualitative method. The data was movie dialogues entitled "The Princess Switch". Data collection techniques used in this research were observation and documentation. The results of this research show 90 data from movie dialogues used in the movie. The writer concludes that there are five types of language styles used in this research, namely frozen style (1 datum), formal style (43 data), consultative (9 data), casual style (26 data), and intimate (11 data). The most frequently used language in the movie is the formal style type. In addition, this research can be used as alternative teaching materials and references for teachers and the government.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate students’ ability in speaking English and to find out the anxiety factors that influence students’ mastery in speaking English in the tenth graders of SMK Gondang in the academic year of 2022/2023.This study includes descriptive qualitative research with a case study approach. The data was collected by questionnaires, observation and test of students performance. Then, the data was analyzed through several steps such as data reduction, data display, and validity. The results of this study showed that the ability of the tenth graders of SMK Gondang in English speaking is not so good. It can be seen from the mean score of students’ speaking test was 31.62. In addition, the data also showed that the are two anxiety factors that influence students’ speaking skills namely internal factors and external factors. The internal factor such as a lack of confidence, anxiety, nervousness, worries, tension and, dizziness to practicing speaking English. While, the external factors are teachers, parents, friends, and also the environment. Those factors make some students reluctant to practice speaking English in their learning. Abstract

Biographical criticism is easier to do to literary works that reflect the author’s biography. This research used qualitative research. In this research, interview and Inferno were the data sources. Three lecturers of Pekalongan University are the interviewees of this research. The objective of this research is to find out the significance of biographical criticism analysis for Literary Research subject of Pekalongan University. The result showed that this research can enrich students understanding about biographical criticism. This research also can be an example or reference to introduce biographical criticism to students. However, the novel is quite old to be an example. Instead of using novel which written long time ago, the writer can choose latest novel which more related to the students. The presentation of the findings needs to be shortened to show a compacted and concise form to save students’ time in reading this.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out and describe students' ability to read texts, find difficulties faced by students and describe the factors that influence the reading comprehension of class X students of SMK 1 Pemalang in the 2022/2023 academic year in reading comprehension from recount texts. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The results of this study indicate that students' ability to read texts is considered weak at 57.74% (poor). Students' difficulties in reading comprehension of recount texts are seen in terms of mechanical abilities and comprehension. Nearly 50% of the 31 students answered that they did not understand reading comprehension texts. And from the factors faced by students in reading comprehension of recount text factors according to students, physical health can hinder reading, some students answered that they needed to find other learning resources related to reading and comprehension, some students answered that they were interested in reading but there were factors What does not support them in learning to read is environmental factors.

Abstract

The aim of education is not only to improve students' academic performance but also to develop their character. In line with these aims, the author conducted research to describe the teaching strategies of English teachers in building students' character through character education and to examine the effect of contextual teaching and learning on students' character development in the eleventh-grade students of SMK Islam Bojong during the academic year 2021-2022. The author used descriptive qualitative research with purposeful sampling, involving 28 students as the study population. Data were collected using interviews and observation sheets. The data were analyzed using a data triangulation technique. The results showed that contextual teaching and learning can effectively enhance students' character. Contextual teaching and learning also positively impact character building in the eleventh-grade students of SMK Islam Bojong. The author concludes that the contextual teaching and learning strategy is beneficial for integrating character-building into the learning process. It provides students with a valuable learning experience, emphasizing that education is not just about achieving high scores but also about developing good behavior.

Abstract

Pandemi covid-19 dirasakan masyarakat, baik global maupun nasional, sehingga menimbulkan banyak sekali dampak negatif dari masalah kesehatan, ekonomi, pendidikan, sosial, politik, dan atau hukum. Permasalahan pengabdian ini disebabkan kesadaran akan pola hidup bersih masyarakat belum tertanam. Sebagian besar masyarakat belum mematuhi protokol kesehatan yang benar. Peran Pemerintah bersama lintas sektoral dalam hal ini sangat vital untuk meningkatkan kemandirian dan memberdayakan masyarakat dalam upaya meningkatkan derajat kesehatan masyarakat serta ketahanan ekonomi di masa pandemi. Salah satu kebijakan yang bisa ditempuh pemerintah daerah adalah promosi kesehatan yang aktif dan masif. Pelaksanaan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini rencana bermitra dengan Dinas Kesehatan Kota Pekalongan dengan cara membuat pengembangan demo ketan dengan menggunakan pendekatan humanis melalui sosialisasi, pelatihan, pendampingan, dan evaluasi. Metode pengabdian menggunakan action berbasis literasi digital. Pengabdian menghasilkan: (1) kesadaran masyarakat akan kesehatan, meningkatnya ekonomi rakyat, dan kerja sama global dalam pemulihan dampak covid-19, (2) video demo ketan (videoscribe promosi kesehatan) sebagai upaya mencegah penularan covid-19 untuk meningkatkan daya saing Kota Pekalongan  Kata Kunci : Videoscribe Promosi Kesehatan, Covid 19, DEMO KETAN

Abstract.Penelitian ini berjudul Kesiapan Implementasi Blended Learning di Universitas Pekalongan. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk (1) mendeskripsikan kesiapan mahasiswa dan dosen Unikal dalam pelaksanaan blended learning, dan (2) mendeskripsikan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi pelaksanaan blended learning di kampus Unikal. Jenis penelitian ini adalah studi kasus dengan metode penelitian kualitatif. Abstract

This study investigates how English teachers perceive the role of visual literacy in students' reading comprehension at SMA Negeri 2 Batang. The background of this study stems from the challenges faced by students in understanding complex English texts and the limited use of visual media in teaching by teachers. The purpose of this study is to determine how teachers apply visual literacy in teaching, as well as to understand their views on the benefits and challenges faced. Using a qualitative approach and case study method, data was collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that visual literacy, such as images, videos, and infographics, can significantly improve students' comprehension and motivation to learn. The teachers stated that the use of visual media helps students connect text with context, enriches learning experiences, and fosters reading interest. However, its implementation still faces several challenges, such as time constraints, facilities, and teachers' skills in selecting and integrating visual media effectively into teaching materials. Therefore, appropriate training for teachers and balanced learning strategy planning are needed so that visual literacy can be used not merely as an addition but as an integral part of the reading-learning process. With proper management, the integration of visual literacy can strengthen students' overall English literacy skills.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the problems that are faced by the students in reading skill and explain the pop-up book as a teaching medium can improve student’s reading skill in narrative text. The writer used classroom action research through two cycles design in this research. The respondent was XI-2 grade students of SMA N 1 Wiradesa that consisting of 31 students. The writer chose the XI-2 grade students because in this grade students should master of reading skill. In this research, the writer used qualitative design to gather the data. The data was collected through observation, open questionnaire, pre-test, and post-test. Based on data result of student's reading comprehension, it showed the significant improvement for reading comprehension using Pop-up book. The mean score of pre-test increased about 22.6% became 81.9 in post-test. Individually, students who had passed the KKM got a score of 75 or more were improved from only 14 or about 45.2% students in pre-test activity, then it had increased 100% became 31 students in post-test. Classically, all the students had passed the standard minimum score more than 75. It means the research ran successfully. Keywords: Pop-up Book; Reading Skill; Classroom Action Research
