Abstract

Medication use in patients with chronic diseases during Ramadan is a crucial yet often overlooked public health challenge in the primary health care system in Indonesia. Non-compliance with medication regimens and inappropriate dosage adjustments during fasting can lead to serious complications and even medical emergencies, especially in patients with diabetes and hypertension. This community service activity aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of pharmaceutical counseling, accompanied by leaflets, in enhancing patients’ knowledge of medication use during fasting for chronic conditions. This quasi-experimental study was conducted at the Technical Implementing Unit of Kepanjenkidul Health Center, Blitar City, involving 18 patients diagnosed with diabetes and hypertension. The study employed a knowledge questionnaire.  The design of this study aims to analyze changes in patient knowledge related to drug use during Ramadan fasting through a structured intervention approach. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in knowledge scores, from an average of 28.33 (pre-test) to 47.11 (post-test), representing a percentage increase of 37.56% (p-value = 0.000, p = < 0.05). In conclusion, pharmaceutical counseling through brochures has shown promise as a strategy for improving patients’ understanding of medication management during Ramadan. It is recommended that health centers develop specific counseling protocols and educational materials tailored to the characteristics of patients, particularly those from low-educated and pre-elderly groups. The implementation of this counseling program needs to be integrated into routine pharmaceutical services, with a focus on preparation several weeks before Ramadan to improve medication safety and therapy fulfillment for patients who choose to fast.

Abstract

Childhood is the early phase of life and a very fast growth and development phase. Good nutrition intake plays an important part in achieving optimum body growth, including brain growth as well highly determining an individual’s intelligence. Toddlers are more interested in environment and improving their motor skill than in food; therefore, the food served should be always varying. The objective of research is to find out the factors correlating to mothers’ knowledge on nutrition need in toddlers. The result of observation conducted by the author in Cermee Village, Cermee Sub District, Bondowoso found many mothers with toddlers (1-3 year children) have poor knowledge on the nutrition need in 1-3 year old children. The method used was quantitative one, with descriptive correlational design and cross-sectional approach and exhaustive sampling technique taking 34 respondents being the sample. The result of univariate analysis shows that 67.7% of respondents have poor knowledge on toddler’s nutrition need and factors correlating to mothers’ knowledge on toddler nutrition are occupation and information source with substantially different proportion (>10%). Meanwhile, education and age factors have very small proportion difference.  Keywords: Knowledge, Nutrition Need, Toddler

Abstract

The problem of stunting is a classic health problem that is complicated to solve considering the many factors that influence the incidence of stunting itself. Churros, as one of the most popular snacks among the public, can be combined with moringa flour which is rich in nutrients and has been proven clinically and in the field to help overcome the problem of stunting in Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of giving kelorina churros mix on increasing the weight of toddlers with stunting in the Mojokerto Regency area. The research design used was pre-experimental with a static group comparison design approach. The population in this study were all toddlers with stunting in the Mojokerto Regency under the working area of the Sooko Health Center, Gondang Health Center and Jatirejo Health Center. The variable in this study was the stunting toddler's height. Analysis test was carried out using the Wilcoxon test and the Mann-Whitney test. From the results of the Mann-Whitney test, it was obtained a significance value (p value) of 0.013 <0.05 so it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the two research groups.
