Abstract Improving the quality of education has always been done continuously by the government, the teachers, and other parties interested in education. However, the fact shows that there are still many challenges that we still need to overcome, one of them being teachers’ lack of understanding their students’ cognitive condition. This current program is one of the ways to solve the problem, that is training SMA English teachers in Jayapura to enable them to identify their students’ cognitive condition, especially their multiple intelligences. Different person may have different types of multiple intelligence. The type of the multiple intelligence one has will influence the way he or she think and see the world. Multiple intelligence consists of Linguistics, Mathematics, Music, Sapatial, Kinsthetic, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, and Natural.. The training was conducted through a lecture session and practice. A pre-test and post-test were given before and after the training. The result of pre-test shows that English teachers of senior high schools in Jayapura are still not familiar with multiple intelligences. After training was conducted, most participants believe that multiple intelligence can be used for the basis in preparing teaching materials in order the students to absorb the materials well, resulting in the better mastery of English.

Abstract

The rapid growth of online instruction has significantly transformed education, particularly in the 5.0 society development era. This study investigates the online reading strategies and comprehension skills of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners, aiming to better understand how students approach online texts and the challenges they encounter. Using a qualitative case study design, fifteen EFL students were selected through purposive sampling. Data were gathered through observations and semi-structured interviews to identify the reading strategies employed by these learners in an online environment. The results revealed that EFL learners used various effective strategies to engage meaningfully with online materials. However, notable differences in reading strategies were observed based on individual preferences, leading to diverse outcomes in comprehension. These variations highlight the challenges some students face in understanding online content, emphasizing the need for more personalized approaches in online reading instruction. The study suggests that while EFL learners can apply appropriate online reading strategies, their effectiveness depends on individual reading preferences and comprehension levels. Consequently, educators should address these differences by designing flexible and adaptable reading lessons. The integration of both basic and more advanced strategies is essential to support all learners in navigating online texts effectively.

Abstract

The strategy for developing Khombouw bark craft products in Asei Village, Jayapura Regency, has not yet been optimized to become an interactive learning medium for forming early childhood interest in learning and building character education based on local Papuan wisdom. This research explores the mechanical properties by testing the bending strength of Khombouw bark material as a primary material for making character dolls for Papuan children. This research uses a Research and Development (R&D) development approach, including existing, archetype, and experimental studies. The process of assembling the prototype doll from Khombouw bark uses basic patterns with manual sewing techniques and is reinforced with composite materials to give a handmade impression. The results of this research show that natural fiber in the form of bark from the Khombouw tree has a high level of elasticity that can be applied in the design of volumetric product construction. Visualization of educational dolls using natural colors (wood brown or reddish brown) produced from the surface of Khombouw bark material, which is displayed on child figures by adapting the biological characteristics of Papuans (curly hair), as well as traditional clothing such as crowns, noken and tassels to build Papuan cultural identity.

Abstract

Essential for EFL students are basic reading skills, including letter recognition, word decoding, and comprehension of phrases. Learners struggle with more difficult materials and participate actively in class discussions without honing these abilities. This study aims to investigate EFL students’ needs analysis of basic reading instruction. This descriptive qualitative research design was used with the 2nd semester students of the English Language Education Study Program of Universitas Cenderawasih as the subjects of this research, using in-depth interviews and non-participant observation as data collection tools, and having 19 students as the respondents. Based on the interviews with 19 EFL students, most of them find textbook-based reading materials repetitious and devoid of visual aids, with culture, education, health, and sport. They were interesting, relevant materials that they enjoyed more. Particularly in science and academic writing, students find difficulty with longer passages, foreign vocabulary, and challenging books. They said they prefer digital resources to help understanding, including interactive exercises, audiobooks, and vocabulary lists. These findings underline the importance of level-appropriate, interesting reading materials as well as the usage of multimedia tools to assist different learning requirements. This study concludes that EFL students find challenges with standard, textbook-based reading materials, which emphasize the need for analysis for more relevant, interactive, and visually accompanied content to better fit their interests and improve reading comprehension and enthusiasm. The study recommends utilizing various reading materials, contextualized subjects, and needs-based scaffolding to improve engagement and understanding in curriculum development. EFL programmes can help learners improve their language skills.
