Abstract Improving the quality of education has always been done continuously by the government, the teachers, and other parties interested in education. However, the fact shows that there are still many challenges that we still need to overcome, one of them being teachers’ lack of understanding their students’ cognitive condition. This current program is one of the ways to solve the problem, that is training SMA English teachers in Jayapura to enable them to identify their students’ cognitive condition, especially their multiple intelligences. Different person may have different types of multiple intelligence. The type of the multiple intelligence one has will influence the way he or she think and see the world. Multiple intelligence consists of Linguistics, Mathematics, Music, Sapatial, Kinsthetic, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, and Natural.. The training was conducted through a lecture session and practice. A pre-test and post-test were given before and after the training. The result of pre-test shows that English teachers of senior high schools in Jayapura are still not familiar with multiple intelligences. After training was conducted, most participants believe that multiple intelligence can be used for the basis in preparing teaching materials in order the students to absorb the materials well, resulting in the better mastery of English. Abstract

There have been various conceptualizations about the implementation of task-based language teaching (TBLT) in the context of English language teaching. TBLT has been proposed as a potentially efficacious approach for instructing English as a second language (ESL) in Asian settings, such as Indonesia. The present study aimed to investigate the optimal implementation of TBLT for higher education students in ESP classrooms. A cohort comprising seventy ESP students pursuing a degree in the Accounting Study Program participated as research subjects. This research used a descriptive quantitative research method. The results show that the implementation of TBLT into the teaching of speaking skills resulted in beneficial result concerning students in ESP classrooms. The findings of this study indicate a statistically significant increase in the mean scores of oral English proficiencies among students enrolled in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses, as seen by the comparison between pretest and post-test scores. This study can be implemented by providing opportunities for students to engage in spoken language practice rather than learning sessions primarily focused on the explicit instruction of grammatical rules and ESP students’ comprehensibility. This study can be applied in TBLT approach in the ESP classroom setting for comprehensibility in EFL students' oral English.

Abstract

The integration of instant messaging services into educational settings has become increasingly prevalent, providing unique opportunities for enhanced communication and learning. This study aimed to examine the viewpoints of educators and students regarding the use of instant messaging services, such as WhatsApp, in their translation education and instruction. The study employed a qualitative research approach, specifically content analysis, to examine the utterances of two translation lecturers and fifteen ESP students. The results revealed that participants unanimously agreed that instant messaging services facilitated their teaching and learning of translation by using consistent terminology and rephrasing complex tasks to provide guidance throughout the chat. This approach enriched the translation understanding of ESP students. The study suggests using one consistent term to refer to the translation process throughout the text. In conclusion, chatting applications like WhatsApp are powerful and efficient communication tools that can facilitate an engaging, authentic, and meaningful learning experience when effectively included in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) classrooms for online translation interactions.

Abstract

The rapid growth of online instruction has significantly transformed education, particularly in the 5.0 society development era. This study investigates the online reading strategies and comprehension skills of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners, aiming to better understand how students approach online texts and the challenges they encounter. Using a qualitative case study design, fifteen EFL students were selected through purposive sampling. Data were gathered through observations and semi-structured interviews to identify the reading strategies employed by these learners in an online environment. The results revealed that EFL learners used various effective strategies to engage meaningfully with online materials. However, notable differences in reading strategies were observed based on individual preferences, leading to diverse outcomes in comprehension. These variations highlight the challenges some students face in understanding online content, emphasizing the need for more personalized approaches in online reading instruction. The study suggests that while EFL learners can apply appropriate online reading strategies, their effectiveness depends on individual reading preferences and comprehension levels. Consequently, educators should address these differences by designing flexible and adaptable reading lessons. The integration of both basic and more advanced strategies is essential to support all learners in navigating online texts effectively.
