Abstract

The performing art of Reog Ponorogo is a cultural heritage of the people of East Java which continues to experience development and several changes and progress. This study aims to identify the practice of commodifying high heels to complement the clothing of female dancer Jathil Obyog in the Reog Ponorogo art show. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The results of this study explain that the high heels of Jathil Obyog dancers have value in supporting the appearance so that the legs look level, as well as forming a sturdy and proportional body posture in protecting the feet of female dancers in outdoor performances. The high heel exchange rate on Jathil Obyog's dancer's clothing is to raise the social status to an economic aesthetic value, while the symbolic value of high heels is a marker of sexuality for the female dancer Jathil Obyog to convey aggressiveness and eroticism to the audience, especially men. The conclusion of this study shows that high-heeled shoes can increase the sexual attractiveness (female body) of Jathil Obyog dancers by using a combination of semi-transparent or see-through tops, as well as the use of short pants that will make the thighs and buttocks look slimmer.

Abstract

The strategy for developing Khombouw bark craft products in Asei Village, Jayapura Regency, has not yet been optimized to become an interactive learning medium for forming early childhood interest in learning and building character education based on local Papuan wisdom. This research explores the mechanical properties by testing the bending strength of Khombouw bark material as a primary material for making character dolls for Papuan children. This research uses a Research and Development (R&D) development approach, including existing, archetype, and experimental studies. The process of assembling the prototype doll from Khombouw bark uses basic patterns with manual sewing techniques and is reinforced with composite materials to give a handmade impression. The results of this research show that natural fiber in the form of bark from the Khombouw tree has a high level of elasticity that can be applied in the design of volumetric product construction. Visualization of educational dolls using natural colors (wood brown or reddish brown) produced from the surface of Khombouw bark material, which is displayed on child figures by adapting the biological characteristics of Papuans (curly hair), as well as traditional clothing such as crowns, noken and tassels to build Papuan cultural identity.

Abstract

The number of sago processing industries in Jayapura Regency has the potential to increase sago pulp fiber waste that is still not being optimally utilized. This study aims to address the problem of sago pulp waste by turning it into functional and aesthetic handicraft products using painting techniques. The design was carried out through exploration using the research through design (RTD) method, which consists of the stages of understanding material characteristics, exploring materials, and implementing materials. Data collection techniques used observation and interviews to gain an in-depth understanding of the sago waste processing from sago starch (flour) processing from sago trunk (tokok) grating, extraction, sedimentation, and drying. Samples of sago pulp waste were taken from the sago forest located in Kampung Harapan, Sentani District, East Jayapura Regency. The sample characteristics in the research population were two-week-old sago pulp fiber waste that had been crushed from the sago processing of sago pith or trunk contents. The result of this research is a composite sheet in the form of bio-leather from sago pulp waste that is used as a material for making fashion products. This research focuses on the application of a green economy by developing craft raw materials to support Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 12, namely responsible consumption and production.

Abstract

The development of Asei Village as a pilot village for the Women's Friendly and Child Protection Village (DRPPA) program has not yet been accompanied by activities that support play and learning spaces for children, as well as women's economic empowerment to enhance artistic entrepreneurship based on the potential of local materials (Khombouw bark). This community service activity aims to provide training in creating bark puppet theater performance models (NEKAY) for women (mama-mama) bark artisans in Asei Village. The Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) method is used in this community service activity through four stages: (1) socialization of environmental- and education-based sustainable tourism (educotourism) programs; (2) training in sketching, creating basic patterns, assembly techniques, doll finishing, and the production of NEKAY ASEI performance merchandise in the form of gift-set hamper souvenirs; (3) assistance in developing performance models through training in vocal performance, musical accompaniment for NEKAY theater performances, and puppet manipulation techniques (movement), using monologue drama scripts based on the stories Friends of Animals and Mama Asei; and (4) development of the NEKAY ASEI theatrical performance through marketing strategies covering the production process, promotional media, and preparation for public performances. The output targets of this community service activity are performance props in the form of Khombouw bark puppets depicting indigenous Papuan children and endemic Papuan animals (the Bird-of-Paradise and the Waigeo Cuscus), as well as the addition of one female character (Mama Asei), and three children's songs with more cheerful and energetic musical arrangements that convey themes of friendship between humans and animals, as well as parental love for children.
