Abstract

The provision of drug information by pharmaceutical staff in pharmaceutical services aims to prevent medication errors and affect patient satisfaction. Satisfaction results from a patient's assessment of health services by comparing the services received with what the patient expects. This study aims to investigate the effect of pharmaceutical staff behavior on patient satisfaction with drug information at pharmacies in Pekanbaru City. This study employs a descriptive-analytic observational/survey design with a cross-sectional approach. Data collection techniques were carried out simultaneously. The samples in this study consisted of 32 pharmaceutical staff members and 105 patients from 15 pharmacy branches. Sampling for pharmaceutical staff was conducted using the saturated sample method, while patient samples were collected using purposive sampling. A satisfaction questionnaire was prepared based on the satisfaction dimensions. Positive behavior was observed in 62% of cases, while harmful behavior was observed in 38%. The average percentage of the gap between expectations and services is 0.70. This indicates that the services provided to patients at the pharmacy exceed their perceived expectations. The Chi-Square test results yielded a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant influence between the behavior of pharmaceutical staff and patient satisfaction in providing drug information at pharmacies in Pekanbaru City.

Abstract

Hypertension and diabetes mellitus are degenerative diseases that if not managed properly will lead to other disease complications. This condition can cause polypharmacy which has the potential to cause drug interactions. The purpose of this study is to determine the presence or absence of drug interactions used in the treatment of hypertension patients with comorbidities of type 2 diabetes mellitus at Arifin Achmad Hospital, Riau ProvinceThis study was conducted using a descriptive analysis design by collecting retrospective data. The samples are all outpatients diagnosed with hypertension and coexisting type 2 diabetes mellitus from January to December 2024 who met the inclusion criteria. The total sample in this study was 110 samples. In this study use one variable, drug interaction. The instrument used in this study was a patient’s medical record. The results obtained were analyzed descriptively with online media screening using Drugs.com and Medscape.com sites and textbook screening such as Stockley's Drug Information Handbook (DIH) Drug Interaction, 12th edition, 2019. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively using percentages. The results showed that there were 70 cases of potential drug interactions. The type of pharmacodynamic interaction was 100% and based on severity there were major interactions of 1,43%, moderate 92,86% and minor 5,71%. These findings indicate the potential for drug interactions in outpatients with hypertension and comorbid type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly pharmacodynamic interactions.

Abstract

Chronic kidney disease is a progressive disorder that is often accompanied by complications and requires complex therapy, thus increasing the risk of Drug Related Problems (DRPs). The occurrence of DRPs can affect Clinical Outcomes in patients undergoing hemodialysis. The purpose of this study was to analyze the occurrence of DRPs and its relationship to the Clinical Outcomes of patients with chronic kidney disease in the Inpatient Installation of X Medan Hospital for the period January - December 2025. The method used was a descriptive analytical observation with a retrospective cross-sectional design with medical record data. The study sample was 57 patients who met the inclusion criteria. Data analyzed included patient characteristics, drug use, DRPs occurrence based on the Pharmaceutical Network Europe (PCNE) classification, clinical outcomes including blood pressure, hemoglobin and creatinine. The results of the study showed that the majority of patients were male (56.1%), for the 46-65 age group 59.6%, the most commonly used oats were sodium bicarbonate (52.63%), furosemide (43.86%). The incidence of DRPs in 41 patients (71.9%), with indications not being treated (73.17%), and potential interactions (26.83%). The clinical outcomes of most patients had not reached the therapeutic targets, namely, blood pressure (61.4%), hemoglobin (60.7%), and creatinine (57.9%). The conclusion of this study indicates that the incidence of DRPs in patients with chronic kidney failure is still high, potentially affecting clinical outcomes. Therefore, it is necessary to optimize the role of clinical pharmacists in identifying and monitoring therapy to improve the success of patient therapy.
