Abstract

Patients with diabetic foot infection require antibiotics. Generally, antibiotics may have low sensitivity and some bacteria have been resistance to antibiotics. Currently, evaluating the effectiveness of antibiotics is necessary to avoid antibiotic resistance. This study has been conducted using the longitudinal method and prospective sampling technique. Observed parameters were leukocyte, signs of infection and fever after using antibiotics. The data collected were then analyzed to determine the effectiveness of antibiotics based on supporting literature. A number of 19 out of 28 samples of patients with diabetic foot ulcer met the criteria, consisting of 63.16% and 36.84% of male and female patients, respectively. Most of the patients (68,42%) were aged 45-60 years old living with diabetes for more than 10 years. The antimicrobial therapy were given empirically in 8 patients (42,10%) and based on microbial sensitivity (definitive) in 11 patients (57,89%). The use of antibiotics was effective in 15 patients (78,94%) marked by the leukocyte count, signs of infection and fever parameters after 2-3 days using antibiotics. The optimum therapeutic outcome was achieved in 7 to 21 days.

Abstract

Chalcone analogues have attracted the attention of researchers due to their various biological activities. In this study, a chalcone analogue, (E)-1-(3-hydroxyphenyl)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-on has been synthesized under microwave irradiation and its sunscreen activity has been evaluated by in vitro assay using 96-well microplate reader. Based on the in vitro assay, at concentration of 100-500 µg/ml, the compound showed potential sunscreen activity with %Te value of 5.49 – 0.04 % (extra protection – sunblock), %Tp value of 0.51-0.05 % (sunblock) and SPF value of 18.20 – 32.91 (ultra protection). The assay result showed that the (E)-1-(3-hydroxyphenyl)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-on has a potency to be developed as active ingredient in sunscreen product.

Abstract

The research of jelly candy formulation of leaf extract of sweet potato concentration 2% as food suplement has been studied. The formulation consistof six formula with used gelatin as gel forming material. Gelatin concentration 6%, 8%, 10%, 12%, 14%, and 16% for each formula. The evaluationincluding organoleptic evaluation, panelists test, pH ,weight h omogenity, water rate, and fitochemistry test was been done for each formula. Theresult showed that formula 6 with gelatin consentration 16%, pH 6,22, and water rate 17% the best formula. The data from panelist test wereanalized by one way ANOVA SPSS 17 program, the result showed th at there was significant difference of elasticity, shape and colour for eachformula (p<0,05) and there was not significant difference of s mell and flavour for each formula (p>0,05). Formula 6 was the best formula, that wasnot significant different with jelly candy comparator (COMBI KIDÒjelly).

Abstract

Main protease (MPro) merupakan salah satu protein yang memiliki peran penting dalam proses replikasi virus SARS-CoV-2. Beberapa studi in silico dan in vitro telah menunjukkan bahwa senyawa flavonoid baik alami maupun sintetis memiliki potensi yang menjanjikan untuk dikembangkan sebagai antivirus SARS-CoV-2. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mensintesis senyawa 4'-metoksi flavonol dan mengeksplorasi potensinya sebagai inhibitor MPro SARS-CoV-2. Sintesis dilakukan menggunakan senyawa awal 2'-hidroksi-4-metoksi kalkon melalui reaksi Algar-Flynn-Oyamada (AFO) dengan metode pengadukan (stirring method). Selanjutnya, kajian molecular docking dilakukan menggunakan struktur kristal MPro SARS-CoV-2 yang diunduh dari website RCSB Protein Data Bank (PDB ID: 6M2N). Hasil sintesis senyawa 4'-metoksi flavonol diperoleh rendemen produk sebesar 37,72 % dan struktur produk hasil sintesis telah dikonfirmasi melalui analisis spektroskopi UV-Vis, FT-IR, dan 1H NMR. Selanjutnya, hasil kajian molecular docking menunjukkan bahwa senyawa 4’-metoksi flavonol dapat membentuk ikatan hidrogen dengan dua residu penting pada sisi aktif 6M2N, yaitu Glu166 dan Gln189, dengan nilai energi bebas ikatan sebesar -7,13 kcal/mol dan nilai RMSD sebesar 1,45. Hasil kajian ini menunjukkan bahwa senyawa 4'-metoksi flavonol dapat terikat dengan lebih mudah pada sisi aktif MPro SARS-CoV-2 dibandingkan dengan baicalein sebagai senyawa flavonoid pembanding yang telah terbukti secara in vitro dapat menghambat aktivitas proteolitik MPro SARS-CoV-2.

Abstract

Chalcone analogs have been reported to have a variety of exciting biological activities, such as anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, photoprotective, antibacterial, and antidiabetic activities. Therefore, analogs of these compounds have been widely synthesized as intermediate compounds or target molecules in the discovery of bioactive compounds to be applied in the pharmaceutical field. The purpose of this study is to synthesize chalcone analog compounds (E)-1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl) prop-2-en-1-on with the microwave irradiation method and explore some of the biological activities of these compounds, including testing the antioxidant activity by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method, in vitro sunscreen activity by microplate method, and antibacterial activity by disk diffusion method. DPPH test results indicate that the compound has weak antioxidant activity, with an IC50 value of 300.43 µg/mL. However, the compound showed excellent potential as a UV B and UV A filter at a concentration of 150 µg/mL with a value of %Te of 0.73±0.10% (sunblock), %Tp of 0.07±0.00% (sunblock), SPF value of 21.10±1.46 (ultra-protection) and potentially better than benzophenone-3 as a standard sunscreen. Then, disk diffusion testing showed that the compound had weak antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and did not show antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli bacteria at test concentrations of 30, 60, and 120 µg/disk.

Abstract

Acne is a disease that most people suffer especially among adolescent, one of the causes of acne is usually caused by the growth of acne-causing bacteria that is Staphylococcus epidermidis. One of the ingredients that can be used as an antibacterial product is black cumin seed oil (Nigella sativa oil), it is known that black cumin seed oil contains Thymoquinone and α-pinen which are efficacious as antibacterial. This research aims to produce a cosmetic preparation in the form of a face wash that effectively cleans the skin from dust and dirt from makeup, as well as preparations that have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis by using the well diffusion method. Black cumin seed oil is formulated into facial foam in several concentrations, namely 3% (FI), 5% (FII) and 7% (FIII). Evaluation of fa cial foam preparations includes examination of organoleptic, pH, foam power, skin irritation, homogeneity, wetting power, alcohol insoluble portion, freeze and thaw, examination of mineral oil, washability and antibacterial activity. Data analysis using One Way ANOVA statistical test and descriptive. The result showed that the physical stability test, the three facial foam formulas have good physical stability and meet the pH requirements of topical cosmetic preparation. In the antibacterial activity test, it was found that the facial foam preparation of black cumin seed oil give inhibition of 15.37 mm (FI), 16.52 mm (FII) and 17.25 mm (FIII). Based on the one way ANOVA statistical data, the p value <0,05 which means that three is a significant difference in inhibition diameter between FI, FII and FIII which negative control and positive control. It is concluded that the facial foam preparations of black cumin seed oil was physically stable and based on antibacterial activity tests, it is known that FIII has the most bacterial resistance of 17.25 mm with medium resistance category.

Abstract

Amikasin merupakan salah satu antibiotik golongan aminoglikosida yang bersifat bakterisid dan termasuk dalam golongan obat indeks terapi sempit. Penggunaan antibiotik harus tepat agar outcome terapi tercapai maksimal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat korelasi penggunaan antibiotik amikasin terhadap pencapian outcome terapi penurunan sesak pada pneumonia pediatrik di RSUD Arifin Achmad Provinsi Riau. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian observasional dengan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan secara retrospektif pada 20 rekam medis pasien pneumonia pediatrik yang mendapatkan amikasin dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling di RSUD Arifin Achmad Provinsi Riau. Berdasarkan analisis korelasi jenis kelamin dan rentang usia berkorelasi sedang dan tidak bermakna dengan outcome terapi amikasin (r=0,404 dan nilai p=0,143), (r=0,452 dan nilai p=0,274) dan tingkat keparahan pernapasan terhadap outcome terapi penggunaan amikasin didapatkan korelasi kuat dan bermakna (r= 0,675; P= 0,002). Hasil ini menunjukkan penggunaan amikasin memberikan perubahan pada outcome terapi dan outcome terapi dipengaruhi oleh tingkat keparahan pernafasan pasien.

Topical preparations are dosage forms applied to the skin for local therapy. These topical preparations contain several types of bases that are used for drug formulations. This review aimed to determine the type of base that is effective and widely used in basil leaf preparations that function as antioxidants, antibacterial agents, and in wound healing. The research method is comparative, namely, reviewing research articles on formulations of basil leaf products with various concentrations of base types, hydrogels, emulgels, lotions, hydrocarbons, water solubility, absorption, water washing, M/A-type creams, and pastes. The recommended formulation is a gel base type that has physical characteristics, non-irritating properties, antioxidant activity, antibacterial activity, and wound healing. Abstract

Head lice are parasites found in all regions of the world and attack many people of various races, economic status, family or habits. Eucalyptus oil is reported to have anti-head lice activity by providing a high mortality rate for head lice tested in vitro with an average lice death time of 3 minutes 23 seconds. The aim of the research was to formulate and determine the physical properties and anti-head lice activity of eucalyptus oil lotion. The formula was made with concentrations of 5%, 7.5% and 10%, then the physical properties and anti-lice activity of the preparation were tested and analyzed using the Kruskal Wallis statistical test. Research shows that all lotion formulas meet the requirements for good physical properties, namely organoleptic, homogeneity, viscosity, pH and spreadability. The best anti-flea activity is formula 3, which provides flea death activity of 68.5 seconds and the comparison permethrin 1% is 315 seconds. Keywords:          Cajuput oil, formula, lotion, pediculosis   Abstrak Kutu kepala yaitu parasit ditemukan pada semua wilayah dunia dan menyerang banyak orang  beragam ras, status ekonomi, keluarga atau kebiasaan. Senyawa alami telah banyak diteliti sebagai alternatif untuk pengobatan pedikulosis humanus kapitis. Minyak kayu putih  dilaporkan memiliki aktifitas anti kutu kepala dengan  memberikan tingkat mortalitas yang tinggi terhadap kutu kepala yang diuji secara in vitro dengan waktu kematian kutu rerata 3 menit 23 detik. Tujuan penelitian untuk memformulasi dan mengetahui sifat fisik dan aktifitas anti kutu kepala dari losion minyak kayu putih. Formula dibuat dengan konsentrasi 5%, 7,5% dan 10% kemudian diujikan sifat fisik dan aktifitas anti kutu sediaan serta dianalisis menggunakan uji statistik Kruskal Wallis. Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa semua formula losion memenuhi syarat sifat fisik yang baik yakni organoleptis, homogenitas, viskositas, pH dan daya sebar. Aktifitas anti kutu terbaik adalah pada formula 3 yaitu memberikan aktifitas kematian kutu 68,5 detik dan pembanding permethrin 1% yaitu 315 detik.
