Abstract

Vernonia amygdalina, Del leaves which are locally known as Afrika Selatan leaves used as traditional medicine for diabetes, fever, hypertension and uric acid. A study on the effect of their ethanolic extract on serum creatinin level of male white mice has been done. A twenty of male white mice were divided into four groups which were control group and three test group (A, B, C) which given extract with dose 100 mg/kg BW, 200 mg/kgBW and 400 mg/kgBW respectively. Test group were given extract orally for 21 days. The mice neck was cut and their blood collected at 7th, 14th and 21st day. The serum creatinin level was measured by using spectrophotometer UV-Visible at 492 nm. The result showed all doses of ethanolic extract gave statistically difference on the serum creatinin level (p<0.05). The doses at 400 mg/kgBW showed the most effective in reducing serum creatinin level.

Abstract

Masalah keamanan obat pada anak seringkali diabaikan oleh orang tua. Anak masih dianggap sebagai pengguna pasif padahal anak sesuai dengan perkembangannya telah memiliki otonomi dalam penggunaan obat-obatannya sendiri. Untuk itu, anak perlu diberdayakan sesuai dengan pengetahuannya dibawah pengawasan orang tua. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat gambaran pengetahuan dan sikap orangtua tentang obat pada anak. Disain penelitian yang digunakan menggunakan disain studi kuantitatif dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Dari peneitian ini didapatkan bahwa pengetahuan orang tua siswa SD di kota Padang tentang obat dikategorikan sedang(69,20 %). Sedangkan sikap orang tua menunjukan sikap positif dengan persentase sikap positif (97,4%). Tidak adanya hubungan yang bermakna antara tingkat pengetahuan dan sikap  orang tua siswa SD di kota Padang. (P>0,05). Faktor yang mempengaruhi pengetahuan yaitu uhuamur, tempat tinggal, pekerjaan, pendidikan terakhir, dan tempat penyimpanan obat responden. Tidak adanya hubungan yang bermakna antara semua karakteristik terhadap sikap responden. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa perlu edukasi kepada orangtua agar dapat memberikan informasi tentang keamanan obat pada anak.

Abstract

Tumbuhan Jeruju (Acanthus illicifolius) merupakan salah satu tumbuhan mangrove yang banyak ditemukan di daerah tepi pantai di Sumatera Barat. Masyarakat  di daerah Ketaping dan Pariaman Sumatera Barat mengkonsumsi buahnya untuk mengobati kanker. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk  melakukan karakterisasi dan menentukan, aktivitas sitotoksik ekstrak etanol dan fraksi jeruju (Acanthus illicifolius) dengan metode Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT). Daun dimaserasi dengan etanol 70% selama 3 hari, kemudian difraksinasi dengan n-heksana, etil asetat dan butanol. Hasil penelitian mendapatkan susut pengeringan simplisia 12,78%, kadar abu total 10,05%, kadar abu tidak larut asam 1,01%, sari larut air 17,76%, sari larut etanol 7,1%. Rendemen ekstrak etanol diperoleh 2,6%. Kadar air 25,4%, kadar abu total 15,6% dan kadar abu tidak larut asam 0,74%. Skrining fitokimia ekstrak menunjukkan ekstrak mengandung senyawa alkaloid, flavonoid, fenolik dan saponin. Fraksi heksana menunjukkan aktivitas sitotoksik dengan nilai LC50 242,25 ppm. Sedangkan, ekstrak etanol dan fraksi etil asetat dan butanol dari daun jeruju tidak menunjukkan efek sitotoksik dengan nilai LC50 lebih dari 1000 ppm.

Abstract

ABSTRAKRendang merupakan salah satu makanan tradisional Sumatra Barat dari olahan daging sapi. Harga daging sapi yang mahal, mendorong pemalsuan menggunakan daging babi hutan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan metode analisis autentikasi rendang sapi menggunakan spektroskopi FTIR kombinasi kemometrik. Sampel yang digunakan adalah campuran daging sapi dan babi hutan yang dibuat dalam 11 konsentrasi (training data set) serta rendang rumah makan (testing data set). Komponen lemak rendang diekstraksi menggunakan metode Folch dan Bligh Dyer kemudian dianalisis dengan spektroskopi FTIR. Spektra FTIR yang dihasilkan digunakan sebagai variabel pemodelan kemometrik. Untuk kuantifikasi, model PLS di bilangan gelombang 1250-950 cm-1 memberikan model terbaik pada metode Folch dengan nilai R2 kalibrasi 0,9946, R2 prediksi 0,9954, RMSEC 0,0328,  RMSEP 0,0402 dan pada metode Bligh Dyer, model PCR di bilangan gelombang 1800-500 cm-1 memberikan model terbaik dengan nilai R2 kalibrasi 0,9940, R2 prediksi 0,9919, RMSEC 0,0345, RMSEP 0,0457. Untuk klasifikasi, model DA di daerah gabungan bilangan gelombang 1800-1600 cm-1 dan 1250-950 cm-1 dengan metode Folch dan bilangan gelombang 1800-650 cm-1 dengan metode Bligh Dyer, berhasil mengelompokkan training data set menjadi beberapa kelas dan mengelompokkan testing data set ke dalam kelas sapi. Dengan demikian disimpulkan bahwa analisis spektroskopi FTIR kombinasi kemometrik merupakan metode screening yang cepat, sederhana dan murah untuk autentikasi rendang sapi dan babi hutan.Kata kunci: autentikasi, rendang sapi, babi hutan, FTIR, kemometrik ABSTRACTRendang is one of West Sumatra's traditional foods made from processed beef. The high price of beef encourages counterfeiting using wild boar meat. This study aims to develop a method of authentication analysis of beef rendang using FTIR spectroscopy in combination with chemometrics. The sample used is a mixture of beef and boar meat made in 11 concentrations (training data set) and restaurant rendang (testing data set). The rendang fat component was extracted using the Folch and Bligh Dyer methods and then analyzed by FTIR spectroscopy. The resulting FTIR spectra are used as a chemometric modelling variable. For quantification, the PLS model at wave number 1250-950 cm-1 gives the best model in the Folch method with a calibration R2 value of 0.9946, prediction R2 of 0.9954, RMSEC 0.0328, RMSEP 0.0402 and in the Bligh Dyer method, the model PCR at wavenumber 1800-500 cm-1 gave the best model with a calibration R2 value of 0.9940, prediction R2 of 0.9919, RMSEC 0.0345, RMSEP 0.0457. For classification, the DA model in the combined area of wave numbers 1800-1600 cm-1 and 1250-950 cm-1 with the Folch method and wave numbers 1800-650 cm-1 with the Bligh Dyer method, successfully grouped the training data set into several classes and grouped testing data set into cow class. Thus it was concluded that FTIR spectroscopic analysis combined with chemometrics is a fast, simple, and inexpensive screening method for the authentication of beef rendang and wild boar.Keywords: authentication, beef rendang, wild boar, FTIR, chemometrics

Abstract

Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) are groups of plants traditionally cultivated in home gardens and used as sources of natural medicine. One of the widely utilized TOGA plants is Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera Lam.), known for their high nutritional content and various pharmacological benefits. Research shows that Moringa leaves contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids and phenolic acids, which support health benefits, including antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. This community service activity was conducted at Al-Hidayah Orphanage with the aim of enhancing the community’s understanding and skills in utilizing TOGA, particularly Moringa leaves, through herbal tea-making training. Using a qualitative approach, the activities included an initial survey, counseling, practical training, and evaluations through pre-test and post-test questionnaires to measure participants' knowledge improvement. The results showed a significant increase in participants’ understanding of TOGA benefits and Moringa leaf processing into herbal tea, with knowledge levels rising from an initial 16.7% to 91.3% after the training. This increase indicates that counseling and hands-on training effectively improved community awareness and skills. Additionally, the activity introduced the potential for developing herbal products from local plants, which could provide health benefits and economic opportunities through Moringa leaf-based herbal tea production. To sustain the program, further training is recommended to enhance participants’ proficiency in processing TOGA, especially as value-added herbal products. Collaboration with educational institutions is also suggested to expand research and development on TOGA products within the community.

Abstract

The reading interest among children in Sungai Kasai Village, South Pariaman, has become a primary focus in efforts to boost literacy and knowledge amidst rapid technological advancements. This community service project aims to enhance children's interest in reading through an interactive and educational reading corner, implemented through the “Rumah Hebat” program. The approach used is qualitative, involving steps such as surveying the location, researching book donation systems, developing donation brochures, collecting books, and organizing activities at “Rumah Hebat.” The program results indicate that using age-appropriate books, incorporating creative activities like story discussions, writing and drawing workshops, and educational games successfully revived children’s interest in reading. These activities provided a hands-on, engaging way for children to explore the joys of reading, which significantly contrasts with passive screen time. By offering an engaging alternative to electronic devices, the program reduced the negative impacts of technology on children, replacing screen time with reading and creative activities that foster intellectual growth. In conclusion, the “Rumah Hebat” program demonstrates that collective efforts from children, students, and the local community can positively transform children's reading habits. This initiative is expected to provide long-term benefits for the children and the Sungai Kasai Village community. For further development, it is recommended to collaborate with libraries, local authors, or art communities to offer broader access to reading materials and creative opportunities. Expanding these resources can enrich the program, providing children with diverse literary and artistic experiences, and fostering a deeper connection to reading and learning.

Abstract

Big ginger essential oil (BGEO) is a natural source with antibacterial activity. Some traders on online shopping platforms sell ginger oil that may be diluted with a solvent, which could harm customers by increasing the risk of allergies and reducing its biological activity. This study aimed to determine the effect of diluting BGEO with vegetable oils on antibacterial activity and to authenticate BGEO purchased from an online market using FTIR spectroscopy combined with chemometrics. Pure BGEO was obtained by hydrodistillation. Ten BGEO products were obtained from an online shopping platform. The pure BGEO was diluted with three vegetable oils: soybean oil (SO), virgin coconut oil (VCO), and palm oil (PO). Antibacterial activity was evaluated using the microdilution method. The result showed the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) values of pure BGEO against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 were 6.25 mg/mL and 12.50 mg/mL, respectively. The dilution of big ginger essential oil with vegetable oil did not reduce its antibacterial activity. The adulteration of BGEO with palm oil enhanced its antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Most commercial big ginger oils were not similar to BGEO from West Sumatra, and one of the commercial ginger oils may contain vegetable oil as a diluent. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) successfully classified pure BGEO and commercial BGEO. Adulteration of big ginger essential oil with vegetable oil did not reduce its antibacterial activity.

Abstract

The majority of the population in the Pasie Jambak area depends on fishing as their livelihood, which requires them to be in excellent physical condition to carry out their work. Red ginger is one of the most commonly found plants in the market and is known to have benefits in maintaining bodily stamina. Therefore, the Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Andalas University, in collaboration with faculty members and students, conducted training in the production of instant red ginger herbal drinks with the aim of making it a convenient health beverage for the fishing community, suitable for consumption during their fishing trips. This training was attended by a large number of women residing in the vicinity of Pasie Jambak, Padang City. The training process consisted of several stages. The first stage involved an explanation of the benefits of red ginger, followed by the second stage, which was a practical session on the production of instant red ginger herbal drinks using red ginger rhizomes, sugar, and water. The subsequent stage focused on the packaging of the red ginger product and the proper method of preparing the beverage. The training activities concluded with a discussion session and the completion of questionnaires regarding the implementation of the training. The results of this training demonstrated that the participants were able to smoothly produce and package instant red ginger herbal drinks. The questionnaire results also indicated that overall, all participants were satisfied with the training activities. Therefore, it is expected that this training will provide significant benefits to the community in the Pasie Jambak area, helping to improve their health and offering a practical solution for fishermen who require good physical stamina to carry out their work.
