Abstract

The study aimed at exploring the phonological interference made by Pendalungan students in EFL reading, particularly in vowel phonemes. Pendalungan is an assimilation of two majority ethnics in Eastern Java; Java and Madura. Due to the unique characteristics of the language used by this group of community, it is assumed that the errors made by EFL Pendhalungan students might show different patterns as those found in either Javanese and Madurese students. To answer the problem of the research, the descriptive qualitative design was employed. There were eight students who belonged to the Pendalungan community, from a private university in East Java were taken as respondents. The secondary instruments used was an oral test of reading an English text. The finding showed that there were 12 incorrecty pronounced vowels; /ɪ, aʊ, ɔ:, e, Ʌ, əʊ, aɪ, ɪə, ə, ɒ, eɪ, æ/. The finding was analyzed based on the types of phonological interference, namely sound addition, sound omission, and sound replacement. The first two types have the least cases of two for each, while the last type has the most. Furthermore,the phonological interference emerged in the finding is somehow related to the nature of both languages, Javanese and Madurese. Inaccuracy mostly occurs because students pronounce the words as they are written.

Abstract

Pelaksanaan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat yang berjudul Strategi Optimalisasi Kesejahteraan Psikologis Siswa Kelas IX SMP Negeri 3 Sukawati Dalam Menghadapi Pandemi Covid-19 Melalui Modul dan Media Online dengan tema pendidikan yang diharapkan dapat meningkatkan empati mahasiswa serta dapat memberikan sumbangan penyelesai persoalan yang ada di masyarakat sasaran yaitu siswa kelas IX SMP NEGERI 3 SUKAWATI terutama di tengah masa pandemi Covid-19 seperti saat ini. Pelaksanaan program ini berlokasi di tempat Belajar Bulan Jl. SMKI Batubulan yang mana di dalam proses pembelajaran ini terdapat 10 siswa dan dianjurkan tetap mematuhi protokol kesehatan sesuai dengan arahan pemerintah guna memutus rantai penyebaran virus Covid-19. Dalam pelaksanaannya terdapat beberapa tahapan, diantaranya yaitu persiapan, pembekalan, observasi, sampai tahap evaluasi. Observasi merupakan tahap awal yang dilakukan dengan metode wawancara guna mendapatkan informasi-informasi actual dan masalah atau kendala yang dihadapi siswa dalam proses pembelajaran. Setelah mendapatkan informasi dan kendala yang di hadapi siswa, penulis mencoba menganalisa kembali iformasi dan kendala yang dihadapi dan membuat rencara atau program kerja yang dapat membantu siswa kelas IX SMP NEGERI 3 SUKAWATI dalam pembelajaran. Terdapat 3 program kerja yang dibuat penulis untuk membantu masyarkat sasaran atau siswa yang terdiri memberikan modul berupa buku, memberikan E-Modul berupa soft copy dan juga memberikan vidio terkait pembelajaran, agar siswa tidak bosa dan jenuh setiap diakhir pembelajaran guru dan penulis menagajak para siswa untuk bernyanyi Bahasa inggris yang dapat membantu siswa memiliki kosa kata Bahasa inggris dan juga melatih pelafalan siswa dalam Bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

This study elaborates with EFL (English Foreign Language) students’ responses on Google Form. This study focused on how to do code mixing and perception of EFL students toward code mixing on social media. Hoffman’s theory (1991) is implemented to compare with students’ responses about how to doing code mixing on social media and Ulya’s formula (2015) is used to analyzed closed questions about perception toward code mixing. To analyzed the data, descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods were used in this study. The data were obtained from an online questionnaire in Google Form. In collecting the data, this study applies an online survey technique. For the data analysis, it was represented using formal and informal methods. The result shows there are 5 similarities between how to students doing code mixing and reason for applying code-mixing from Hoffman’s theory. Whilst, about perception, it was found that students had 15 positive perception, 6 neutral and 4 negatives.

Abstract

This paper describes the result of student self-reflection on their writing ability and the application of the process writing approach conducted in their academic writing class. The data was collected through a self-reflection written by the participants. The students were guided to reflect on their learning experience in two aspects: their views on their writing ability and the application of the process writing approach in the classroom. Forty-four students of the English literature program from the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Mahasaraswati Denpasar University, were chosen as the participants for this study through a purposive sampling method. This method was ideal because these students have undergone similar learning experiences within the same context, which provided rich data for the study. The result of their self-reflection was analysed using a qualitative approach. The findings indicate that more than half of the participants perceived their writing ability as lacking. Less than 10% of the participants were confident in their writing ability, and the rest saw improvement in their ability but required further practice and guidance. In terms of the application of process writing, the majority of participants agreed that it had a positive impact on their writing process.

Abstract

This study purpose is to found: 1) code mixing types used in Cinta Laura video podcast “Bicara Cinta” on YouTube channel and 2) the factors why the speakers used code mixing in video podcast “Bicara Cinta” on YouTube channel. This study applied the theory of Hoffman (1991). Code Mixing is a study of sociolinguistics. Sociolinguistics can be defined as the study of language that related to society. Sociolinguistics is concerned with how language use interacts with or is influenced by social factors such as gender, ethnicity, age, and social class. Sociolinguists are interested in how we change the way we speak in different social contexts and how we use specific features of language to convey aspects of social meaning and identity. The data were taken from a video podcast “Bicara Cinta” from Puella Id YouTube channel owned by Cinta Laura. This study used a descriptive qualitative method, in Observations method, watching the video podcast, listening the conversation the video podcast, and note taking technique was applied in order to collecting data. The study result is showing the prominent type of code-mixing found in this study is Intra-sentential code-mixing, while the least type of code-mixing found in this study is Intra-lexical code-mixing. For occurrence from this data that found are 50 data, Type of code mixing Intra-sentential code mixing are 35 (70%), Intra-lexical code mixing is 6 (12%), and Involving a change of pronunciation are 9 (18%).  To get data results from involving a change of pronunciation, people need to understand the correct pronunciation, for example “of course” can be mispronounced to be “of cos” in this study.

Abstract

Dalam proses belajar mengajar, guru memiliki peranan yang penting dalam mengelola kelas. Pengelolaan kelas yang baik juga akan mendukung peranan guru sebagai pengajar, penilai, pengelola, penghubung, model untuk budaya dan bahasa akademis, serta anggota dari sebuah komunitas yang profesional. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui keterkaitan antara peran guru dan pengelolaan kelas untuk mengatasi hambatan-hambatan pada proses belajar mengajar. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Subyek penelitian ini adalah guru Bahasa Inggris dan peserta didik di kelas VII D, serta seorang guru Bahasa Inggris di SMP Negeri 1 Denpasar. Observasi langsung dilakukan terhadap proses pembelajaran yang berfokus pada peran guru dan keterampilan dalam mengelola kelasnya. Wawancara juga dilakukan untuk mengetahui pandangan peserta didik terkait hambatan-hambatan yang ditemui di kelas. Hasil observasi langsung menunjukkan bahwa guru Bahasa Inggris tersebut telah menunjukkan peran guru sebagai pengajar, penilai, pengelola, penghubung, model, dan guru yang profesional secara baik. Namun, terdapat empat hambatan dalam mengelola kelas yang ditemukan ketika proses belajar mengajar sedang berlangsung seperti peserta didik tidak fokus, kegaduhan yang tidak diharapkan, posisi tempat duduk, dan lokasi kelas. Untuk mengatasi hambatan-hambatan tersebut, terdapat langkah-langkah nyata yang harus diperhatikan seperti melakukan pemantauan langsung, menjelaskan konsekuensi terkait tingkah laku yang tidak sesuai, serta adanya perjanjian antara guru dan peserta didik terkait hak dan kewajiban di dalam kelas.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat merupakan agenda yang dilakukan setiap semester oleh dosen dengan berkolaborasi bersama mahasiswa. Pada masa pandemi lalu banyak sektor pendidikan memanfaatkan media secara daring untuk memberikan materi ajar. Banyak kendala yang dihadapi karena sektor ini sangat penting dalam menunjang keberhasilan anak bangsa untuk ikut berperan serta sebagai penerus negara. Pada masa era serba digital seperti sekarang ini, apa pun dapat dilakukan secara daringt. Berbagai aplikasi pendidikan sangat mudah digunakan. Namun masih banyak para siswa dan orang tua belum maksimal mampu untuk memanfaatkan media. Sehingga hal ini menjadi kendala. Melalui kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dapat memberikan solusi terhadap permasalahan ini. Sehingga kegiatan pengabdian ini dapat memberikan manfaat bagi masyarakat dalam memanfaatkan media sosial untuk pembelajaran etika dan materi dasar bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

This study is entitled an Analysis of Setting in Fast Furious Movie. It is aimed at analyzing the types of setting and how setting constructs the plot used observation method. The data source of this  study was Fast and Furious Movie. The theories used to determine the problems proposed by Kenney (1966) with the book entitled “How to Analyse Fiction”. Based on Kenney’s theory, setting can be divided into two types namely neutral setting and spiritual setting. The element of neutral setting consists of setting of place, setting of time and setting of environments. Based on the analysis of the first problem, there were three types of settings such as setting of places was found 10 (56%), setting of time was found 3 (17%) and setting of environments was found 5 (28%). Those could be classified as neutral settings. Then, based on the analysis of the second problems, it can be concluded that the data for construction of plot there were 4 types found for constructing the plot such as exposition was found 2 (20%) it was when Dom lives in new life and when he told his old lives situation, complication was found 2 (20%) it was when Dom got a job and when he accidently accepted a new mission, climax was found 4 (40%) it was when Dom fight with the Military team, Dom knowing his brother Jackob, Dom’s team want to broke the satellite, Jackob was fail and resolution was found 2 (20%) it was when Jackob back to his brother and dinner to clear the problem through Dom and Jackob.

Abstract

Keberadaan desa wisata menuntut masyarakat desa untuk mampu mengikuti perkembangan desa. Masyarakat hendaknya memiliki kecakapan dalam bidang bahasa, khususnya Bahasa Inggris. Meskipun demikian, terdapat keterbatasan jumlah guru Bahasa Inggris dan minimnya fasilitas pendukung. Hal tersebut mendasari tim pelaksana untuk memberikan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris tambahan untuk siswa kelas 4 di SD No. 1 dan 2 Bongkasa Pertiwi. Kegiatan evaluasi dilakukan menggunakan instrumen kuesioner pre-tes dan post-test dengan menyajikan 10 pertanyaan. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata siswa pada tahap pre-test sebesar 18,88. Kemudian, nilai rata-rata siswa pada tahap post-test meningkat menjadi 94,44. Dengan demikian, dapat dikatakan bahwa program kerja ini telah efektif dilakukan.

Abstract

Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris bagi peserta didik tentunya perlu mendapatkan perhatian khusus, baik dari orang tua maupun pihak sekolah. Dalam hal ini, peserta didik hendaknya diberikan berbagai pengalaman dalam melatih dan mengembangkan keterampilan berbahasa mereka. Faktanya, tidak sedikit peserta didik yang masih mengalami kendala dalam memahami kosa kata dalam bahasa Inggris, sehingga mereka cenderung pasif dan kurang percaya diri dalam menggunakan bahasa tersebut. Melalui kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) yang bersifat kolaboratif ini, peserta didik di SD Negeri 1 Pancasari memperoleh kesempatan untuk belajar melalui kegiatan pelatihan dan pengembangan keterampilan berbahasa Inggris yang berbeda. Proses pembelajaran pada kegiatan ini memadukan antara teknik pengajaran, peran teknologi, serta permainan yang dapat meningkatkan antusiasme peserta didik dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris. Akhirnya, peserta didik nantinya diharapkan mampu berkolaborasi bersama dalam upaya meningkatkan kepercayaan diri, pemahaman, dan keterampilan mereka ketika menggunakan bahasa Inggris.
