Abstract

This study aims to explore the behavioral dynamics of open relationships among homosexual (gay) individuals who use online dating applications, focusing on subjective experiences derived from a small-scale qualitative inquiry. The study is motivated by the increasing use of digital platforms within the gay community, which may facilitate more flexible and non-monogamous relational arrangements. A qualitative method with a phenomenological approach was employed to examine lived experiences in depth. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with two participants who are engaged in open relationships and actively use dating applications. The findings, based on inductive thematic analysis of participants’ narratives, indicate that open relationships are not merely understood as expressions of sexual freedom, but as ongoing processes of negotiating emotional needs, intimacy, and personal autonomy. Seven recurrent themes consent, self-awareness, communication, honesty, boundaries, trust, and negotiated forms of fidelity and commitment emerged as key features within participants’ accounts. These themes were developed inductively while being interpreted in relation to existing theoretical perspectives on consensual non-monogamy. Within this limited empirical context, open relationships reflect an alternative construction of fidelity grounded in transparency and emotional responsibility, particularly in tension with dominant cultural norms that privilege monogamy. Given the study’s reliance on two participants, the findings are not intended for generalization but instead provide context-bound insights into individual meaning-making processes. The study contributes to social psychological discourse by offering a phenomenologically grounded account of emotional ethics in non-monogamous relationships and highlights implications for culturally sensitive counseling practices for LGBTQ+ clients in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between Work-Family Conflict (WFC) and marital satisfaction among sandwich generation women. The participants consisted of 251 women aged 30–50 years in Indonesia, with data collected through an online questionnaire. The instruments used were the Work-Family Conflict Scale (WFCS) developed by Carlson, Kacmar, and Williams (2000), which includes three aspects: time-based conflict, strain-based conflict, and behavior-based conflict, and the ENRICH Marital Satisfaction Scale (EMS) developed by Olson and Fowers (1993), which includes ten aspects of marital satisfaction. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, normality and linearity tests, and Spearman’s rho correlation. The results indicated no significant relationship between work-family conflict and marital satisfaction (r = 0.007, p = 0.457). The average score of work-family conflict was 64.90 (SD = 14.176) and was classified in the moderate category, while the average score of marital satisfaction was 37.33 (SD = 12.239), which was also in the moderate category, indicating that the respondents had work-family conflict and marital satisfaction levels in the moderate category.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between marital commitment and marital satisfaction among young to middle-aged adults in interethnic marriages. The study involved 124 participants who had been married to partners of different ethnic backgrounds for at least two years and were aged between 25 and 60 years. This research used a quantitative correlational method with data collected through Likert-scale instruments, namely the Marital Components of Commitment (MCC) to measure marital commitment and the ENRICH Marital Satisfaction Scale (EMS) to measure marital satisfaction. Descriptive analysis showed that the mean score of marital commitment was 187.31 and marital satisfaction was 69.15, both categorized as moderate. The Pearson Product Moment correlation analysis resulted in r = 0.499 with a significance level of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant positive relationship between marital commitment and marital satisfaction. This finding suggests that the higher the marital commitment, the higher the marital satisfaction experienced by individuals. The results imply the importance of fostering commitment to maintain stability and happiness in interethnic marriages

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between emotional attachment and digital hoarding among young adults following a romantic breakup. The research involved 231 participants and employed a correlational design. Data were collected using Likert-type instruments, namely the Emotional Attachment Scale (EAS) and the Digital Hoarding Questionnaire. Descriptive analysis showed that the mean level of emotional attachment among participants was in the moderate category, as was the level of digital hoarding. Statistical analysis using the Pearson Product-Moment correlation yielded a correlation coefficient of 0.374 with a significance level of (p<0,05) indicating a significant positive relationship between emotional attachment and digital hoarding. These findings suggest that individuals with stronger emotional attachment to digital memories tend to exhibit higher levels of digital hoarding behavior.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between Work–Family Conflict and Couple Burnout in married, working Generation Z women. The phenomenon of conflict between work demands and family responsibilities is increasingly experienced by young women in the modern era, which potentially decreases the quality of the marital relationship and emotional well-being. This research used a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The research subjects consisted of 357 married, working Generation Z women, obtained through a purposive sampling technique. The instruments used were the Work–Family Conflict scale (21 items; \alpha = 0.960) and the Couple Burnout scale (18 items; \alpha = 0.967). The normality test results showed that the data was not normally distributed (Kolmogorov–Smirnov p = 0.000), so the analysis was conducted using the non-parametric Spearman correlation. The results showed a very significant positive relationship between Work–Family Conflict and Couple Burnout with a correlation coefficient of \rho = 0.788 and p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). The mean scores for Work–Family Conflict were 44.13 and for Couple Burnout were 54.64, both falling into the moderate category. This indicates that the higher the level of conflict between work and family, the higher the level of emotional exhaustion in the couple's relationship. These findings support the role conflict theory, which explains that work pressure can negatively impact the well-being of the marital relationship. This study emphasizes the importance of maintaining work–life balance and social support for Generation Z women to prevent couple burnout and maintain household harmony.

Abstract

Involuntary childlessness is a condition of not having children due to external factors, such as illness or other things that are beyond individuals’ control, which make them unable to have children. Involuntary childless couples have challenges in psychological, emotional, and social aspects. This study aims to determine the relationship between spirituality and resilience in involuntary childless families. This study used a quantitative method with a correlational design. There were 187 participants in this study, consisting of 80 husbands and 107 wives of childless individuals. The research data is collected from involuntary childless families using a snowball sampling. Spirituality was measured by the Spiritual Attitude and Involvement List (α=0.995), and resilience was measured by the Connor Davidson Resilience Scale (α=0.977). The results showed a sig=0.000 (p<0.005) and a correlation coefficient of 0.463, where the higher the level of spirituality, the higher the resilience in involuntary childless families. Involuntary childless families can increase their spirituality and be more resilient to the problems faced by following spirituality and non-spirituality practices. Abstract

Differences in perspectives and habits trigger conflicts early in marriage. This situation necessitates marital adjustment, and personality serves as a determining factor in the success of such adjustment. Therefore, the objective of this study is to examine the correlation between the Big Five personality traits and marital adjustment among wives who have been married for 1–5 years in Salatiga. This study employs a correlational approach using accidental sampling. The results indicate that the traits of extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness to experience have a positive correlation with marital adjustment, whereas the trait of neuroticism has a negative correlation with marital adjustment. This study demonstrates that personality traits exert a significant influence on an individual’s attitude during the process of marital adjustment.

Abstract

Infidelity is a relationship established with someone other than one's spouse. This certainly evokes various emotions in the victim. Forgiveness is a change in an individual's behavior with the aim of reducing the motivation for revenge or distancing oneself from other individuals who have hurt them. This study aims to reveal the stages of the process and factors that influence forgiveness in a wife who is a victim of her husband's infidelity but still maintains her marriage. A qualitative research method was chosen to collect data from three participants through semi-structured interviews and observation. The results show that each participant went through four stages in the forgiveness process, namely the uncovering phase, decision to forgive, work phase, and deepening phase. Although they went through the same four stages, each participant had a different way of expressing and responding to their feelings, as well as their motivation to reconcile. This study also reveals that one of the biggest factors influencing forgiveness in the three participants was their level of religiosity.
