Abstract

Abstract. Along with the rising influence of Japanese in many spheres of life, many language learners around the world have learned Japanese. Kyoukasho, which means "Japanese language textbooks," are the main books that people who don't speak Japanese use to learn Japanese. Many features of Japanese linguistics may be found in Kyoukasho, one of which is subclause construction. A compound sentence in Japanese must include linking elements. These elements connect the subclause to the main clause. As a result, the purpose of this research is to discover how Kyoukasho explains the use of connecting constituents of time in subclause to form compound sentences. Thistudy is necessary because it can assist Japanese learners in better understanding sentence construction. This was a literary study that used a descriptive-qualitative approach. To obtain the result, data were obtained from six Kyoukasho regularly used by Indonesian higher education institutions to teach Japanese and evaluated using agih and matching analytical approaches. This study drew two conclusions about the use of linking constituents: their use in the sequence of events and their use in the temporal order. There were three events completed for the sequence of events, namely: after, before, and concurrent events, and four orders concluded for the time order, namely: starting-ending, starting, ending, and neutral. Aside from this, this study discovered that the duration of the actions in the concurrent event affects the structure as well. The event is divided into three categories here: open-closed, complete, and partial. Keywords: Time Subclause, Constituents, Japanese Grammars

Abstract

Abstract

The process of forming compound verbs in Japanese has different patterns and rules from Indonesian. Japanese compound verbs are formed by combining two verbs to form a new verb that carries a certain meaning. The process of combining two verbs lexically can be grouped into aspectual lexical compound verbs and thematic lexical compound verbs. This research focuses on thematic lexical compound verbs, and provides a descriptive explanation of the meanings that emerge as a result of the process of combining two verbs thematic-lexically. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with an interpretive approach, with proportional random sampling data collection techniques using documentation methods. The results of this research show that the process of combining two verbs thematic-lexically to form a lexical thematic compound verb will give rise to new meanings that can be seen from the relationship between V1 and V2, namely the meaning of means of action, manner of motion/movement, cause-result, and parallel meaning.

Abstract

Phatic Communication or Phatic Communion has started to be widely practiced recently with several theories and forms, especially in relation to Indonesian and English, but in Japanese, it is very limited. Researchers here want to conduct research on phatic communication in relation to the Japanese language. In Japanese, a similar concept to phatic communication has existed for a long time, it is even said that the Japanese language is hyperphatic or a society that is very strong in applying the concept of phatic communication in its daily life, although with a different name, shakou jirei (社交辞令). This research discusses phatic sentences in Japanese conversation found in the film Good Doctor which will be examined regarding their function and relationship in relation to tachiba or the relationship between the speaker and the interlocutor in a conversational situation which according to Haugh and Obana (2016) is divided into 2 relevant classification (1) chi’i 地位(social status) and (2) yakuwari 役割 (role, responsibility). The function of phatic sentences in Japanese was classified according to Jumanto (2014) with 12 functions in English conversation, while in this study the researchers examined phatic sentences that appeared in Japanese conversation in relation to the concept of tachiba in Japanese society. The research regarding phatic communication in Japanese is still very limited, even though it is very often found in the daily conversation, thus considered very interesting to research, especially in relation to the social values that very commonly known in Japanese society. This research is a qualitative descriptive study using the free-involved listening method and note-taking method to analyze the fatic expression in relation to the concept of tachiba in Japanese society.
