Abstract

Gadget merupakan sebuah inovasi dari teknologi terbaru dengan kemampuan yang lebih baik dan fitur terbaru yang memiliki tujuan maupun fungsi lebih praktis dan juga lebih berguna. Seiring perkembangan Pengertian Gadget pun menjadi berkembang yang sering kali menganggap smartphone adalah sebuah gadget dan juga teknologi komputer ataupun laptop bila telah diluncurkan produk baru juga dianggap sebagai gadget.Metode yang digunakan adalah kombinasi ceramah, diskusi, tanya jawab dan games, disesuaikan  dengan karakteristik peserta, waktu, serta sarana yang tersedia.Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada jam 09.00 – 11.00 WITA, hari Selasa tanggal 12 Desember 2017 di SMPN 33 Samarinda Kelurahan Bentuas Kecamatan Palaran.  Peserta  kegiatan seminar terdiri dari kelas VII A, VII B, VIII dan IX, total peserta 95 siswa, lokasi SMPN 33 Kelurahan Bentuas Samarinda.  SMPN 33 berada di pedesaan yang jauh dari perkotaan sehingga gadget merupakan satu-satunya hiburan buat mereka. Walaupun di pedasaan jangkauan sinyal sangat memadai untuk menggunakan internet,  sehingga tiap pelajar memiliki gadget/ smartphone.  Berdasarkan hasil seminar dengan metode diskusi tanya jawab dan games dengan pelajar SMPN 33, menunjukkan bahwa hampir semua pelajar mengaku pernah mengakses  informasi pornografi melalui situs di internet melalui gadget dalam bentuk gambar, vidio atau dalam permainan game.

Abstract

In the era of rapid technological advancements, education has undergone significant transformation, necessitating changes in teaching methods and skills. The International Community Service Webinar “Enhancing Technological Literacy in Education: Adapting to Rapid Technological Advancements” was organized by the Research and Community Service Institution of Universitas Widya Gama Mahakam Samarinda in collaboration with the English Education Department of Universitas Siliwangi. This event, held as a webinar via Zoom Meeting, addressed challenges in integrating digital tools into education. It was supported by Indonesian Education Share-to-Care Volunteers (IES2CV) and featured speakers from V.I. Vernadsky Crimean Federal University (Russia), Bangkokthonburi University (Thailand), Grand-Plus College of Education (Nigeria), Emilio Aguinaldo College (Philippines), and the University of Malakand (Pakistan). The program provided targeted training to equip educators and students with essential skills in utilizing digital platforms, promoting collaborative research, and comprehending digital ethics and data privacy. The primary objectives included enhancing technological proficiency, increasing access to educational resources, and fostering a culture of innovation in learning environments. A total of 756 participants enrolled in the program, comprising 364 from Indonesia and 392 from various countries, including Pakistan, China, Nigeria, India, Eswatini, Thailand, the Philippines, and Iraq. The diverse participation underscores the global importance of technological literacy in education. By bridging the gap between technological advancements and educational practices, this initiative fostered the development of a more proficient and adaptable cohort of learners, ultimately enhancing the quality of education and research in the digital era

Abstract

The research was prompted by the researcher's teaching internship experience, where they observed that some students had complications mastering English vocabulary. The researcher decided to use crosswords in English learning to enhance students' vocabulary knowledge, as they have a strategic purpose of improving and developing skills. The study aims to describe how crosswords improve students' vocabulary. This study was located at SMA Negeri 9 Samarinda in Class XI – MIPA 3 with 29 students. This research used a two-cycle classroom action research (CAR) method, and the average vocabulary ability of students before class is 49.38. The criteria for success in this research are 75% of students in the class passing the standard minimum criteria (KKM). Cycle I was carried out in two meetings, including a pre-post-test. Started on Monday, March 27, 2023. From cycle I, the results found by researchers were the number of students who passed The Standard Minimum Criteria (KKM) was 20 or 69% of students with an average score of 84.48. The results of the presentation of an improvement in score from the pre-test to the post-test were 0.61%. The increase still did not meet the success target, so the researcher decided to continue the cycle. Cycle II was carried out in two meetings, including a pre-post-test. The cycle started on Monday, April 3, 2023. From cycle II, the results found by the researcher were 27 students with a percentage of 96.3% passing the KKM, and the average post-test results found by the researcher were 94.64. The improvement from the overall mean score in the pre-test to the post-test in cycle II was 10.88%. The classroom action research (CAR) of cycle II was successful and met the requirements of the predetermined criteria. The average score in this study was 75, and 75% of the students in the class completed the KKM. Due to the adjustable of teachers in adapting to classroom conditions and students, crossword puzzles can be a valuable learning tool that enhances their vocabulary skills. Using crosswords in learning can attract students' attention and help them learn more new vocabulary.
