Abstract

Covid-19, a global pandemic, demands active roles from everyone, including from educational institution. Department of Urban dan Regional Planning of University of Hasanuddin supports the Government and the society by organizing two community service activities as part of three pillars of higher education. The first activity is to advocate and raise public awareness on Covid-19 through educative, persuasive and animative approaches in the form of writings, photos, posters and videos posted via youtube and Instagram on April and May 2020 targeting minimal 1,000 viewers. The second activity is to disseminate concept of smart, healthy and resilient city as a planning effort anticipating for future pandemics through scientific, systemic, and collaborative approaches in the form of a virtual national seminar held on 24 September 2020 targeting minimal 300 participants. This paper aimed to describe the objectives, processes and results of these two activities as well as to enlighten the main ideas of the concept presented in second activity. Up to 10 October 2020, it was noted that a total of 4,037 reviewers have visited the social medias used in the first activity. A total of 1,008 requests entered the registration email of the organizer during 7 days prior to the second activity. A total of 584 participants from various universities, government agencies and planning/architectural consultants attended the second activity. The numbers of viewers and participations in both activities that exceeded the initial targets shows an optimum active role of the department in supporting the Government and the society based on to its field and capacity.

Abstract

Tourism in Indonesia consists of various types of tourist objects which until now have become the main attraction for both domestic and foreign tourists. A tourist area needs its own arrangement so that tourists can be interested in visiting that location. The arrangement of a strategic and attractive area to become a tourist destination has been found in many regions. Most of these locations are arranged based on the wishes and expectations of the people who live in the area. The importance of the role of local communities in the development of sustainable tourism destinations has encouraged the emergence of new trends in community-based tourism development. This is also done in the area of ​​Lakkang Village, which is one of the locations that has tourism potential in Makassar City. This research aims to explain the arrangement of the Lakkang area into a tourist area based on a community perspective. Data collection techniques are carried out by observing the existing area, reviewing data or documents related to the area and interviews conducted in Focus Group Discussion (FGD) activities with the community in the Lakkang delta area. The analysis technique of this research uses descriptive qualitative and spatial analysis. The results of this study indicate the existing tourism potential in the Lakkang delta, as well as the use of the ecotourism concept as a concept that can benefit not only the community but also the preservation of the tourist area in Lakkang village.

Abstract

Street vendors are one type of informal sector work that is very vulnerable to being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. It also felt by street vendors in the Makassar Losari Beach Pavilion area. The condition of street vendors on the one hand is in contact with the lower middle class and has a relatively small business scale. Besides, organized and planned PKL activities will be able to adapt to pandemic conditions and have a positive impact on the city's local economy and support the government in providing employment. This service activity aims to present ideas for the concept of structuring street vendors that are resilient to pandemics and educating traders about the application of health protocols in the work environment of street vendors. Data collection techniques are observation, documentation, interviews, through a stakeholder approach. The data analysis technique is descriptive qualitative analysis. The data collected is used in arrange the concept of structuring street vendors that are resilient to pandemics, sharing, and transferring knowledge to street vendors in the form of Focus Group Discussions (FGD) accompanied by video playback of planning concept arrangements and education on the application of health protocols. The results of service activities in the form of the concept of structuring street vendors include the arrangement of stalls, tables and chairs, repair of clean water networks, provision of hand washing facilities, trash cans, garbage containers, and waste disposal schemes, as well as socializing the importance of implementing health protocols for traders and visitors.
