Abstract

The coastal area of Purworejo Regency has the potential to be hit by a mega-tsunami disaster because it includes the southern coast of Java Island which is faced with seismic gaps that may produce large earthquakes in the future. This study aims to simulate tsunami disaster mitigation in the coastal area of Purworejo Regency in an effort to raise awareness and increase the community capacity for dealing with potential tsunamis so that the level of loss can be minimized. The tsunami risk analysis is based on the Disaster Crunch model, which is a combination of vulnerability analysis based on the weighted overlay quantitative method and tsunami hazard analysis based on tsunami inundation reduction modeling and cost distance analysis. The planning of the tsunami evacuation route is based on the network analysis method. The tsunami-risk area with a run-up scenario of three meters in the coastal area of Purworejo Regency 126,29 square kilometers or about 72,52% of the total coastal area. There are five tsunami evacuation plan points, with five main tsunami evacuation routes that lead directly to each of these points.

Abstract

Remote sensing data for analyzing and evaluating trophic state ecosystem problems seen in Batur Lake isan approach that is suitable for water parameters that cannot be observed terrestrially. As the multitemporal spatial data used in this study were extensive, it was necessary to consider the effectiveness and efficiency of the processing and analysis, therefore R Studio was used as a data processing tool. Theresearch aims to(1) map the trophic state of Batur Lake multitemporally usingPlanetScope Imagery;(2) assess the accuracy of the trophic state model and applyitto anothertemporal data as a SpatialBigData;and (3) understand the trophic state impacton the water quality of Batur Lake based on physical factors andthelake’s chemical concentration (sulfur concentration). Theresearch showsthatthetrophic state of Batur Lake isin good condition, with an ultraoligotrophic state as the majority class, based on the mean Trophic State Index (TSI) value of9.49. The standard errorsof each trophic state parameter were0.010 for total phosphor, 0.609 for chlorophyll-a, and 0.225 for Secchi Disk Transparency (SDT). The multitemporal model demonstratesthat the correlation between the increase oftrophic state and mass fish death cases in Batur Lake is existent.

Abstract

The agricultural industry, including the cultivation of paddy and vegetables, plays a crucial role in the economy of Padukuhan Dukuh and serves as its residents' primary source of income. Nevertheless, farmers have expressed that the challenge of acquiring subsidized fertilizers from the government substantially hinders the agricultural process. Compound fertilizer, often known as NPK fertilizer, is a specific chemical fertilizer frequently used by farmers to enhance soil fertility rapidly. This community service program aims to spread awareness about using alternative fertilizers (such as compost and liquid organic NPK) to minimize the adverse effects of fertilization on the environment. Additionally, the program seeks to promote the conversion of agricultural and household waste into organic fertilizers. The service activity took place from September 10 to October 14, 2023. Padukuhan Dukuh is the location where the production of alternative organic fertilizers using agricultural and home waste takes place. This service aims to offer support to the members of the "Ngudi Makmur" Farmer Group, located in Padukuhan Dukuh, Sinduharjo, Ngaglik, Sleman, DIY. There were 20 members of the farmer group present at the service. The community service stages are categorized into various implementation methodologies, specifically knowledge sharing, a workshop, monitoring, and evaluation. The results have been collected, and a favorable response from the community has been received. This offers a unique organic NPK fertilizer that is readily available and more efficient. The program has been assessed from various perspectives, including its sustainability. Several aspects must be taken into account to evaluate the program's sustainability. These factors encompass the necessity to enhance the caliber of human resources, augment crop output, maintain the reliability of fertilizer production via compost houses, and consider the economic and socio-cultural values.

Abstract

Rhynchophorus spp. has been observed to be a potential pest in oil palm plantations in Indonesia. Rhynchophorus spp. has been reported to have attacked oil palm in Kalimantan and Papua, but reports regarding attacks by Rhynchophorus spp. in Sumatra have not been updated. Riau is the biggest producer of crude palm oil. This study aims to investigate Rhynchophorus spp. at oil palms in Siak, Riau. The study was conducted in the smallholder area of the Kerincikanan region. The study used survey methods to observe the symptoms of oil palms infested by Rhynchophorus spp. Pheromone aggregate traps were also used to capture Rhynchophorus spp. The results showed that after tree felling, two oil palms were positively infested by Rhynchophorus spp. Both the oil palms exhibited characteristic symptoms, including a collapsing crown, no visible injury or fungal infections in the stem, some leaves were still green, while others were dry. While, other eight oil palms were suspected to be infested by Rhynchoporus spp. Based on morphological characters, it was shown that Rhynchophorus spp. captured was R. vulneratus. These results suggest that oil palm plantations in the studied area should increase their awareness of the palm weevil's attack and implement mitigation approaches to mitigate further impacts.

Abstract

France had contributed to the toponymic (geographical name) landscape of the northern coast of Papua and its surrounding islands through exploratory activities conducted during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Bougainville, d’Entrecasteaux, Freycinet, Duperrey, and Dumont d’Urville were among the prominent French navigators who led scientific expeditions in the region. One of the outcomes of these voyages was the detailed mapping of the northern coast of Papua and its surrounding islands, accompanied by the emergence of French exonyms. This study aims to examine the presence of French exonyms along the northern coast of Papua and its surrounding islands. A heuristic approach is employed based on various documents and maps. The results indicate that a total of 81 geographical features have historically French-derived names, including two cases in which the names were introduced by Dutch cartographers. These exonyms are spatially concentrated in three principal areas: the eastern part of the northern coast of Papua, the Strait of Yapen, and the northern coast of Waigeo Island to Ayu Islands. Some of these exonyms appear to have been coined spontaneously during the voyages, as evidenced by narratives in voyage accounts, while others are recorded solely on maps without further explanation. According to the classification proposed by Blair and Tent (2020), which is specifically designed for categorizing European exploratory toponyms, most of these exonyms are eponymous (63%) and descriptive (27%). However, the presence of French exonyms has gradually declined due to the absence of French colonialism. In addition, intensive exploration by the colonial government of the Dutch East Indies and the latest policies of the Indonesian Government on geographical naming that prioritize the use of locally based toponyms, has contributed to the replacement of French exonyms. Currently, at least nine French exonyms remain recorded on the Indonesian Topographic Maps.Submitted:2026-02-12 Revisions:2026-03-09 Accepted:2026-03-16 Published: 2026-03-16
