Abstract

Background: Nurses must pay attention to patient safety. The quality of learning in nursing students must be improved with valid and reliable instruments to evaluate safety knowledge, skills, and behaviors regarding patient safety. Purpose: To determine the validity and reliability of the patient safety self-evaluation instrument, which was developed to evaluate patient safety in nursing students. Method: The research design used an observational research type with a methodological study approach to determine the validity and reliability of Patient Safety Competency Self-Evaluation (PSCSE) instrument. The study took place from March to June 2024, Esa Unggul University, Jakarta. Using purposive sampling and the Slovin formula, 71 participants were selected, who met specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. Univariate statistical analysis was conducted, including used Pearson correlation and the reliability test used Cronbach alpha with a significance level of 0.05. Results: The results of the validity test using Pearson Product moment on 6 knowledge questions with a value of (r= 0.281-0.568), 21 items of questions about skills (r= 0.422-0.806), 13 behavioral items (r= 0.273-0.789). Cronbach alpha (0.950) so that this instrument item is valid and reliable at a significant level of 0.05. Conclusion: The patient safety self-evaluation instrument has met the validity and reliability criteria for measuring knowledge, skills and attitudes in nursing students.

Abstract

Background: Patients with chronic diseases generally experience repeated hospitalizations. Cultural diversity can affect communication and engagement from health care providers and recipients. An interactive culturally sensitive telenursing application is needed as a form of continuous nursing intervention when patients are at home. Purpose: To build and test the culturally sensitive telenursing application of Suster Kita. Method: Using the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) process design. The research was conducted from August 2022 to February 2024 and tested on 20 respondents in the DKI Jakarta area. The evaluation of the effectiveness of the Suster Kita culturally sensitive telenursing application at the implementation stage was carried out using a questionnaire on the use of the application developed by the research team. The final results of the application are evaluated 2 weeks after the respondent uses the application. Results: the use of the application showed that the average knowledge of chronic diseases and their treatment consisting of 10 knowledge components increased before and after the trial of the use of the culturally sensitive application of Suster Kita. Conclusion: the intervention is acceptable to users and is worth using. Application suggestions are integrated with laboratory results.

Abstract

Nursing services in the elderly population play an important role in modern nursing practice, especially with the growth in the number of elderly. The presence of competent and trained nurses is crucial to providing effective care to this demographic. One potential method to improve nursing students' understanding and skills in aged care is the utilization of Virtual Reality (VR) technology to simulate aged services.  This study aims to identify the virtual reality-based elderly nursing service simulation revolution through a systematic review. Systematic Literature Review is conducted by searching the data sources ScienceDirect, Pubmed, CINAHL, and Google Scholar. Inclusion and exclusion criteria based on the PICO approach, are used to select suitable articles, with a range of publication years from 2018 to 2022. Of the 2241 articles identified at the start of the study, 46 relevant articles were selected after narrowing through a review of titles and abstracts. Of these, 24 articles were selected for further analysis according to the research theme. The results showed that the use of VR technology significantly increased the competence of nursing students, and increased clinical skills, confidence, and understanding of human physiological anatomy.  VR simulations have proven effective in providing services to elderly patients, including teaching elderly oral hygiene, training in the prevention of dizziness and falls, practicing ADL, and teaching relaxation techniques to reduce pain and symptoms of depression. The new opportunities in nursing higher education innovation, VR technology provides an immersive experience for students in caring for an aging population that is growing, along with technological developments.
