Abstract

This study aims to determine the class of chemical compounds ethanol extract of white dragon fruit (H. undatus) and the effect of decreasing blood glucose levels of male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) alloxan-induced. Blood samples were taken from 25 male white rats (R.norvegicus) aged 3 months with an average weight 150-300 grams. The design used was a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments of the mice given no treatment (negative control), rats treated with alloxan (positive control), rats treated with alloxan + ethanol extract of white flesh dragon fruit (H. undatus) 2% I-dose (50 mg / kg bw), rats treated with alloxan + ethanol extract of white dragon fruit (H. undatus) 2% II dose (100 mg / kg bw), rats treated with alloxan + glibenclamide 0.02% (a dose of 1 ml / kg bw). Each treatment examined blood glucose levels on days 0, 3, 7, 14, and 21. Before the adapted rats treated 2 weeks and fasted for 16-18 hours. Each treatment consisted of 5 replicates. The variables measured were blood glucose levels in each treatment. The data obtained was analyzed by using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and if there is a difference between treatments then proceed with testing on Duncan test. The research shows that ethanol extract of white dragon fruit (H. undatus) 2% dose (50 mg / kg bw), doses (100 mg / kg bw) and glibenclamide 0.02% 1 ml / kg body weight can significantly reduce levels blood glucose (P <0.05) day-7 until day 21 in alloxan-induced rats. This shows the ethanol extract of meat white dragon fruit (H.undatus) can be used as a lowering of blood glucose levels.

Abstract

Rhinitis merupakan radang selaput lendir hidung oleh proses inflamasi mukosa hidung yang disebabkan oleh reaksi alergi maupun bukan dari reaksi alergi. Studi kasus bertujuan untuk mengetahui teknik diagnosis dan terapi yang tepat untuk kasus rhinitis. Pemeriksaan dilakukan terhadap seekor anjing peliharaan di Laboratorium Ilmu Penyakit Dalam Veteriner, Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan, Universitas Udayana. Anjing datang dengan keluhan bersin-bersin, ditemukan adanya leleran dari hidung dan mata, dan epistaksis yang telah terjadi selama dua bulan. Pemeriksaan fisik menunjukkan adanya leleran mukopurulen dari hidung, leleran mukopurulen dari mata, frekuensi pernapasan meningkat hingga 68 kali/menit. Pemeriksaan penunjang dengan sinar Rontgen dilakukan untuk meneguhkan di bagian mana terjadi gangguan pada sistem respirasi anjing yaitu dengan hasil sistem respirasi anjing terlihat normal tanpa ada gangguan. Pada pemeriksaan hematologi ditemukan bahwa anjing kasus mengalami limfositosis (60%) dan monositosis (17%). Terapi yang diberikan yaitu antibiotik cefixime untuk mengobati kemungkinan adanya infeksi sekunder bakteri dengan dosis terapi 5-12,5 mg/kg BB dengan jumlah yang diberikan sebanyak 0,5 kapsul dua kali sehari, hemostatik lokal epinephrine untuk menghentikan epistaksis, antiinflamasi berupa meloxicam tablet untuk mengobati peradangan lokal yang terjadi pada hidung dengan dosis terapi 0,2 mg/kg BB dengan jumlah permberian sebanyak 0,25 tablet per oral satu kali sehari, serta tetes mata chloramphenicol untuk mengobati leleran mata/ocular discharge. Hasil pengobatan selama tujuh hari meunjukkan bahwa terapi yang diberikan membantu mengurangi gejala penyakit yaitu tidak adanya leleran yang keluar dari mata dan hidung, tidak terjadi epistaksis, dan frekuensi pernapasan kembali normal.

Abstract

A study has been carried out to map the distribution pattern of poultry from traditional market toreduce the transmission risk of avian influenza virus. The data were collected from threes markets wherepoultry are sold, namely in Bringkit of Badung Regency, Kumbasari of Denpasar City, and Kediri ofTabanan Regency. Data collections was based on interviews using questionnaire. Poultry from all marketsare distributed throughout Bali. Poultry are traded mainly for religious ceremony and immediatelyslaughtered as it arrives at the consumer’s house. The distribution pattern of poultry seems to play asignificant role in the disseminations of avian influenza virus. The right implementation of biosecurity intraditional markets is highly recommended to curb the risk.

Abstract

Former finding that avian influenza (AI) virus of H5N1 subtype from Indonesia shows reduced sensitivity against oseltamivir is critically reviewed trough molecular observation of the amino-acid sequence motive of neuraminidase protein (NA) of all H5N1 virus from human and animal in Indonesia available in GeneBank. Amino acid sequence of oseltamivir binding pocket of NA protein on all Indonesian viruses is typical for sensitive virus with a concerved motive of H274, E276, R292 dan N294. Resistance issue could not be explained based on available data.

Abstract

A questionnaire surveillence have been carried out in three different traditional markets (ie. Beringkitin badung district, Kumbasari in Denpasar, Kediri in Tabanan district) in order to understand the role ofpaultry traders behavior in transmitting of avian influenza virus. Of 150 quationares collected most oftraders (66.7%) kept the animals for 1-3 days before it was marketed. Traders bin Beringkit and Kediri(76.3%) used to mix different species of birds in their cages, whereas none of the traders from Kumbasaridoing that. When hygienec and sanitation aspects were considered (ie. Washing and desinfectan sprayingfor cages) it was found that the behavior of traders varied markedly between the 3 different market. Inconclusion the traders awareness to especially bird flue infection and implementation of biosecurity isvery low.

Abstract

Scabies adalah penyakit kulit yang disebabkan oleh infeksi tungau Sarcoptes scabiei. Seekor kambing kacang (Capra hircus) berjenis kelamin jantan, berumur satu tahun, bobot badan sekitar 15 kg, warna rambut hitam kemerahan, tingkah laku suka menggaruk pada bagian telinga dan leher serta sering menggesekkan daerah yang gatal ke tiang kandang atau pohon-pohon di sekitar kandang. Hasil pemeriksaan klinis menunjukkan bahwa kulit mengalami kelainan berupa kulit bersisik, keropeng akibat pengeringan cairan pustula, alopesia, hiperemi pada daerah permukaan tubuh, daerah kepala, muka, sekitar moncong, kuping, bagian leher, punggung dan kaki. Hasil pemeriksaan kerokan kulit superficial ditemukan tungau yang diidentifikasi sebagai S. scabiei. Hasil pemeriksaan status praesens menunjukkan capillary refill time (CRT) > 2 detik, sedangkan degup jantung, pulsus, respirasi, dan suhu dalam keadaan normal. Berdasarkan sinyalemen, anamnesis, pemeriksaan klinis dan pemeriksaan penunjang laboratorium, kambing kasus didiagnosis menderita penyakit scabies. Pengobatan dilakukan dengan menggunakan ivermectin 1% 0,2 mg/kg BB secara subkutan dengan dua kali pemberian dengan selang pemberian 14 hari. Diberikan pengobatan tradisional secara topikal dengan ekstrak minyak kelapa dan daun gamal dengan cara dioleskan pada kulit yang terinfeksi. Diberikan Biosan TP inj. 3 mL dengan dua kali pemberian pada interval 14 hari. Hasil terapi menunjukkan hasil yang baik dengan ditandai perubahan mengarah ke kesembuhan pada hari ke-7 pascaterapi.
