Abstract

Background: Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) is still a concern for individuals who are dependent on a ventilator. It is envisaged that the growth of technology-based innovations would lead to the creation of remedies for the prevention of VAP. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to learn more about ICU nurses’ perspectives on nursing innovations to avoid VAP in patients who are on ventilators. Methods: Throughout July and August of 2021, a descriptive qualitative research study was conducted. Through the use of the snowball sampling approach, a total of 30 critical care nurses were recruited. During the interview procedure, each participant had around 40 minutes of time for an in-depth interview using a semi-structured format. In order to analyse the findings of the interviews, the technique proposed by Colaizzi was used. Results: The following four themes emerged: 1) Development of tools to prevent infection, 2) Innovation to monitor cuff tension, 3) Improvement of nurses’ skills and knowledge in using technology, and 4) Nurses’ burden in using technology. Conclusion: Nurses may benefit from considering VAP management as a part of technology-based innovation strategy. Nurses have praised the invention for measuring and monitoring the ETT cuff as a source of optimism for future advancement.

Abstract

AbstrakThe jurisdiction of Polrestabes Surabaya was ranked in the top 3 contributors to the number of traffic accidents of 39 Polres in the East Java Regional Police in 2017. KB Khadijah Kindergarten is in the middle of Surabaya and an area with heavy traffic, so there is a high risk of traffic accidents, but the school has never received material and information about first aid in an accident so that if there is an accident the teacher and staf are not ready and unable to provide help properly. The purpose of this community service is to provide knowledge and abilities to teachers, staff, and parents to be able to do first aid in an accident. The method used in this empowerment is lectures and demonstrations about first aid in accidents which include Basic Life Support (BLS), splinting & Bandaging, and ambulation/transportation and also using leaflet media. As many as 47 people consisting of teachers, staf and parents participated in this activity and also carried out an evaluation of knowledge and self efficacythrough pre-test and post-test. The results achieved through this activity is that there is an increase in knowledge and self-efficacy in conducting first aid in an accident. This is because the lecture, simulation, and also leaflet methods can provide a technically clear description so that participants know and can practice relief assistance in accidents. Subsequent community service activities are expected to achieve wider goals and diverse communities.

Abstract

Optimizing health services during the pandemic is something that hospitals must do in order to keep improving service quality. This community service aims to educate nurses on how to use digital technology-based nursing services in the pandemic. Health education is provided through webinars, as a method of implementing this community service program. The majority of webinar participants (60%) had sufficient knowledge based on the results of the pretest. Following the presentation of the material, it can be concluded that there has been an increase in knowledge, with 182 participants (90%) having excellent knowledge. Nursing services are benefiting from digital innovation not only in terms of workforce management, but also in terms of changing the way care is delivered. Nurses are crucial in the adoption of digital tools and information technology to improve patient care. This is due to the fact that the quality of digital care delivery has risen to the forefront of healthcare and is being scrutinized more than ever before.

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetic patients' non-compliance with diet can increase the risk of complications and decrease quality of life. Dietary compliance can be influenced by motivation, self-efficacy, knowledge, intentions, and family support. This study aims to analyze the relationship between perceived risk and expected outcomes with dietary compliance in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: 150 respondents were obtained from five Primary Health Care in Surabaya through the cluster sampling method. The instruments used were a risk perception, a healthy diet-outcome expectation scale, and dietary compliance questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Spearman’s Rho statistics (α≤0.05). Results: Most of the patients had moderate risk perception (67.3%) and high outcome expectation (48%). There was a significant relationship between perceived risk (p = 0.000) and expected outcome (p = 0.000) with dietary compliance in type 2 DM patients. Conclusion: Diabetic patients' perceptions of their disease and the expected results have a positive effect on patient adherence to diet. Patients need accurate information about their disease so that they can create good perceptions and expectations.
