Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has struck the world, prompting the enforcement of stay-at-home policies to halt the spread of COVID-19. Indonesia is not exempted from this situation. The COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated social distance due to social distancing, quarantine, and isolation to minimise the spread of the virus. During the COVID-19 pandemic, an online learning system was used. The ideal learning methods in the new normal era are blended learning and hybrid learning methods. Online learning demands the attention of the communicant so that the message conveyed by the communicator can run effectively. If hybrid learning as an instructional medium can be appropriately utilised, the learning objectives can be achieved. However, in previous studies, the blended learning method still needs to be evaluated so that its application can run well and as expected. Because communication transactions that can overcome various frames of reference or clarify difficulties to transfer understanding in a timely manner are considered rich, the media richness theory is applied in this study. This study aims to know how effective hybrid learning is in Southeast Sulawesi during the COVID-19 pandemic. The method used in this research is phenomenology by involving junior high school teachers in Southeast Sulawesi. Based on this study’s data analysis findings, the Effectiveness of the hybrid learning model in Southeast Sulawesi during the COVID-19 outbreak is decided by students’ and parents’ desire to monitor their children.

Abstract

This study aims to cover the transformation of social capital in a digital society and its support for tolerance. This study used a quantitative method with descriptive content analysis. The research subjects are Twitter social media users. The object of this research is identified through user involvement in tolerance issues on social networks such as Twitter. The analysis tool that is maximized is Nvivo 12 Plus. The study reveals that disseminating harmful and intolerant content on social media platforms can pose a significant obstacle to establishing meaningful social connections. Such content is capable of provoking conflicts, reinforcing intergroup divisions, and eroding the social trust needed to foster tolerance. Fake news and negative narratives can reinforce negative stereotypes and have a significant impact on society's mindset. Promoting positive social values requires increasing digital literacy, taking a strong stance against content intolerance, implementing policies that promote tolerance, and ensuring access to information for all. This study highlights the grave danger of spreading harmful content on social media platforms like Twitter, as it can significantly threaten the building of substantial social capital. To promote digital tolerance, we need to increase literacy, enforce strict policies, strengthen online networks, and promote constructive dialogue

Abstract

Infrastructure development in buffer zones such as Maros Regency of Indonesia’s Sulawesi Island presents a dilemma between the push for modernization and the preservation of local traditional values. Amid the rapid expansion of roads, bridges, and tourism projects, local communities face disruptions to the social, cultural, and economic spaces that have long sustained their way of life. This study aims to analyze the social responses of the Maros community to infrastructure development, particularly in the context of the tension between tradition and modernity. A qualitative approach was employed, using an exploratory case study design conducted in three villages: Jenetaesa, Tukamasea, and Salenrang. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and local documentation, and analyzed using Pierre Bourdieu’s theories of habitus and social fields. The findings reveal that development has led to the transformation of symbolic spaces, shifts in power relations, and the emergence of unequal access to development benefits. Community responses vary, including forms of cultural resistance, conditional social negotiation, and hybridization between traditional values and modern elements. This study concludes that technocratic development, when lacking cultural sensitivity, poses a threat to social cohesion. Therefore, sustainable development in local contexts requires a participatory approach that recognizes communities as active agents in shaping the direction of change.
