Abstract

This research entitled Javanese speech acts at Sabtu Market Tanjung mulya in Mukomuko: Pragmatic analysis. This study discusses locutionary and illocutionary acts in Traditional Markets. This study aims to analyze the types of locutionary and illocutionary acts used by buyers and sellers at the Sabtu market Tanjung Mulya. The data subject is transactional communication at the Traditional Sabtu Market Tanjung mulya. The theory used in this research is pragmatics, speech acts and classification of speech acts. This research was conducted using descriptive qualitative research. The data analysis technique used descriptive analysis techniques, by describing the types of locutionary and illocutionary acts. The results showed that there were 3 locutionary act concepts used by buyers and sellers, namely: the statement form consisted of 11 findings, the question form had 15 findings, and for the imperative 4 findings. While the illocutionary types are: representative 13 findings, directive 11 findings, commissive 5 findings and expressive 5 findings, declarative findings are not found in this study. It can be concluded that the dominant form of question is used in locutionary and dominant representation is used in illocutionary by buyers and sellers in Traditional Markets

Abstract

Language is a tool used by humans to interact and cooperate with other people. Language also strengthens the relationship between people and their culture, so that a culture can be recognized and maintained. Minangkabau culture always preserves oral traditions such as the pasambahan utterance which is a form of utterance conveyed by both parties in finding solutions or overcoming problems. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method to explore politeness, and the data analysis method used in this research is the equivalent method with referential and transitional determinants, collecting data using observation, documentation, and interview techniques. Then, the data is analyzed by using the technique of sorting the determining element with the distinguishing power of courage. This research uses Leech's theory in finding the maxim and politeness scale. The results of this research indicate that there are politeness maxims and politeness scales in the utterance of pasambahan batagak pangulu in Minangkabau. The maxims obeyed in this speech are 42 and the politeness scale is 42. The forms of politeness maxim compliance found in the pasambahan utterance consist of 10 tact maxims, 2 maxims of generosity, 9 approbation maxims, 10 maxims of modesty, 9 maxims of agreement and 2 maxims of sympathy. The forms of politeness scale found in pasambahan utterances consist of 35 cost-benefit, 10 optional, and 7 indirectness.

Abstract

The research discusses the linguistic sign on the name of the carvings of Rumah Gadang in Sungai Beringin Payakumbuh. The names of the carvings were found based on interviews and direct observations made with the owner of the Sanggar ukir in the village of Nunang Payakumbuh Barat. This research aims to find out the signifier and signified contained in the carvings of the name of the Rumah Gadang. In addition, this research also analyzed the meaning of the name carvings of the Rumah Gadang. The theory used in this research is semiotics, which refers to Chandler theory of linguistic signs. This research was conducted using qualitative descriptive research. The results of the research found that 26 carvings of the name Rumah Gadang Sungai Beringin came from natural patterns and were related to the natural philosophy espoused by the Minangkabau people. In conclusion, carvings are analyzed from signifier and signified, the denotation and connotation meaning and cultural meanings contained in the name of the carvings of the Rumah Gadang.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the relationship between the form of cohesion and the meaning of coherence in the discourse analysis of Sandiaga Uno's Speech in the High Level Thematic Debate On Tourism United Nation General Assembly 2022. The frequency of use of cohesion markers and coherence varies in their use, in The subject of this study focused on sentences in speech texts. The theoretical research used in this research is Tarigan's theory which discusses aspects of cohesion and coherence. This research is the researcher himself with based on knowledge of theories regarding aspects of cohesion and coherence. This study used qualitative descriptive method Data were collected through observation methods. Then, the data is analyzed through the method of interpretive findings with the technique of collecting data taking notes techniques. The results showed that markers of cohesion and coherence were used in the script of Sandiaga Uno's speech. Shows the element of grammatical cohesion consists of elements of reference, subtitution, ellipsis, and conjuction. Then The lexical cohesion element consists of repetition, synonymy, antonymy, collocation. From the aspect of coherence observed through contradiction, contrast, and temporal coherence.

Abstract

Barabab is a traditional art performance form that tells the story of Kaba by one or two performers accompanied by the playing of the rabab musical instrument (a type of stringed instrument similar to the violin). Barabab's performance lasted all night. Barabab performances are usually presented as a form of Bungo Alek (crowd decoration).This thesis aims to collect and analyze for majas metaphors, majas hyperbole, majas personification, majas irony and majas simili on the lyrics of rabab pasisia songs. The method used in this study is observation and interviews then qualitative research which is descriptive research and uses analysis. The theoretical basis is used as a guide so that the focus of the research is in accordance with the facts in the field.The theory in this study uses a theory from Gorys Keraf (2010: 112) about figurative language. The results showed that researchers found kind of figurative languages, they are (1)metaphora (2) hyperbole (3) personification (4) irony (5) simile.The conclusion of this study is that at least the use of irony majas because rabab songs generally tell about life, romance so that the use of irony or innuendo majas is not found.

Abstract

This research discusses swear word and forms of use of vulgar terms between players in Mobile Legends. The discussion of this research focuses on the use of swearing in Mobile Legends player communication. The use of swear words and vulgar terms is often found among the public, such as on social media and especially in games such as the Mobile Legends game, In the Mobile Legends game there are often find the use of bad words, such as insults or other vulgar words, this happens when there are several players who play a game that is not good, resulting in defeat which can be detrimental to the entire team, including the other players, the player will lose their score or level that previously obtained. This research is a study of pragmatic elements that uses theory from Ljung (2011), which discusses tip types and their functions. This research aims to identify forms of use of swear words in the communication of Mobile Legends players. This research was carried out using qualitative methods. The data analysis method in this research was carried out by classifying data taken from conversations between Mobile Legends players. The results of the research show that there are 5 data from the circumstance swearing, 4 which state the use of the term sex organ swearing, 3 the use of sexual activities swearing, 2 the term family swearing, 3 from swearing animals swearing and 1 the use of religious swearing and 1 from the use of prostitution swearing.

Abstract

This study develops a framework model for Linguistic Landscape (LL) strategies aimed at strengthening national identity in tourism areas, focusing on the integration of local culture and multilingual communication. Using the Riau Islands and West Sumatra as case studies, regions recognized for their cultural richness and tourism potential. This research employs a mixed methods approach to analyze public signage in prominent tourist destinations. A total of 200 public signs were examined for linguistic characteristics, cultural representation, and effectiveness in enhancing the tourist experience. The findings reveal that 72% of the signs are monolingual, predominantly in Bahasa Indonesia, while 28% include additional languages, such as English, to cater to international visitors. Among the multilingual signs, 80% successfully incorporate local cultural elements, fostering a stronger connection to regional heritage while improving navigation and communication for foreign tourists. Statistical analysis indicates a positive correlation between culturally integrated, multilingual signage and tourist satisfaction, with 88% very agreed level of stakeholders preferring signs that blend local identity with practical information in multiple languages. The proposed framework emphasizes the strategic incorporation of local linguistic and cultural elements into public signage to preserve national identity amidst globalization and modern tourism demands. This approach not only promotes inclusivity but also enhances the competitive positioning of Riau Islands and West Sumatra as culturally distinctive and welcoming tourist destinations. The study concludes that adopting this framework can support sustainable tourism development while fostering pride in national and regional heritage.

Abstract

This research discusses linguistic signs in the meaning of the Uliat Manyang dance movements from South Siberut, Mentawai. The Uliat Manyang dance is a dance that still functions in traditional ceremonies in Mentawai. The Uliat Manyang dance is a ritual in the form of a dance that imitates the movements of an eagle. The Uliat Manyang dance is performed by Sikerei at the Panunggru event, which is an important ceremony where the event marks the end of the mourning period and as a sign of eternal separation between the souls of the deceased and the families left behind. This dance was performed by Sikerei featuring vocal, facial and gesture elements. This research aims to determine the signifier and signified contained in the Uliat Manyang dance movements and the meaning of the song lyrics in the Uliat Manyang dance. Apart from that, this research also analyzes the body signs of Uliat Manyangdance movements. The theory used in this study is semiotics, which refers to the theory of linguistic signs proposed by Saussure in Candler. This study is a descriptive qualitative study in the form of field notes, observations, interviews, videos, and photos. The stages of implementation are carried out by observations made by watching dances at two events, recorded in video form. The conclusion in this analysis is that the Uliat Manyang dance is a dance that is a symbol of an animal that tells the story of the life of an eagle that is teased by a siamang, but they still maintain togetherness and do not cause quarrels with each other in living their lives. The story of the eagle and the siamang is told through movements and every song lyric. Likewise with the Mentawai people, they always live their daily lives together, such as farming, hunting together, and processing sago which is used as a staple food. Traditional Mentawai dance is a dance that has artistic, magical and mystical values ​​so that turuk laggai is believed to be a dance that intercedes for the spirits of ancestors and humans.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to reveal the meaning and signs of clothes worn by anak daro and introduce and preserve Minangkabau culture, especially in traditional wedding clothes in Nagari Salayo, Solok District. This research resulted in the meaning of the signs on the clothes and attributes worn by the bride during the wedding party. These meanings are categorized into 3 parts. These meanings are categorized into 3 parts. First, it reflects the state of flora and fauna in the surrounding nature, such as bungo sanggua banana saparak, dukuah rago, dukuah ramo-ramo, tali baju, tabua, galang munggu, galang leaves. Second, the Salayo community does not forget the rules of custom and religion, this can be seen in the attributes of dukuah pinyaram. The symbolic meaning of the marriage symbols as a whole is a form of respect, while the symbolic meaning contained in the traditional clothes of the Salayo children is a form of responsibility and life lived during marriage.The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research method. The main data collection techniques in qualitative research are observation, in-depth interviews, and supplemented by documentation studies. The data analysis technique is to explain the clothing attributes and interpret each sign on the attributes using the theory proposed by Ferdinand de Saussure, namely Semiotics.

Abstract

This research discusses linguistics signs in randai art originating from west sumatera, randai is a traditional minangkabau drama or theater performance art which is rich in art, noble values and linguistic element in each element of randai, namely, music, drama, gurindam, galombng or dance and silek. Linguistics elements that have meaning in each element are visualized in legaran movements in the form of circular patterns which function as a form of change in time between one scene and the next scene. This research aims to analyze and describe the lingual signs and body language signs found in randai elements and function in the context of minangkabau culture.The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collected through field observations, interviews, documentation in the form of videos and photos with art pioneers, members of legaran randai. Then the researcher conducted a literature study using Saussure and Barthes semiotics theory. The results of this research show that randai is a complex performing art that combines elements of movement or silek, music, dialogue and singing. The randai movement has distinctive characteristics that reflect the noble values and philosophy of Minangkabau culture, namely leadership and mutual cooperation and a sense of unity. Randai also has a function as a medium for education, entertainment that conveys moral messages or social criticism as well as a form of local minangkabau wisdom.
