Abstract

The purpose of this research was to identify the students’ perception through TikTok video in writing procedure text at second grade of SMKN 6 Padang. The students have three problems, some students were lazy to learn English, monotonous learning supported by books, many students lack of interested in writing procedure text. The sample of the data in this study was students of class culinary department at second grade of SMKN 6 Padang. The method in this study was descriptive qualitative research. The population was 32 students and the sample consists of total sample students. The data were obtained from the questionnaire, The researcher gave 20 items of statement which was from three indicators (title, material, step). Researcher used likert scale to data analysis. Based on the results of the questionnaire given, the researchers found that the students’ perception through TikTok video in writing procedure text at second grade of SMKN 6 Padang are in the strongly category with a percentage of 65.5%. It was indicated by the scientific fact that, in terms of titles 76.58% In terms of material, 75.84% students have a positive perception. Addition, 78.55% students had a positive perception of the step. The researcher concluded that students’ perception through TikTok video in writing procedure text was positive.

Abstract

 The purpose of this research was to describe student’s skill in writing procedure text through YouTube video to tenth grade students at SMA Ekasakti Padang. This Research had to be done because students’ low level of skill in writing due to lack of vocabulary in organizing ideas and lack of language comprehension. This research is a descriptive qualitative research with population of 17 students at tenth grade Phase E. The technique of collecting data was total sampling technique and the instrument for this research was writing procedure text test after they watch a Youtube video titled ‘How to Use A Camera’. The results showed that student’s writing skill was fair to low because based on five scoring aspect in writing (content, organization, vocabulary, language feature, and mechanic), the majority of students was in fair and low category. This result showed that even though Youtube video helped students to understand he structure and the steps in procedure text, students still have difficulties in grammar, vocabulary, and spelling. Therefore, guided integration of Youtube video with writing exercise and vocabulary development is highly recommended.

Abstract

Speaking is a communicative and repetitive activity supported by simple structure and clear meaning. This study aimed to identify speaking difficulties among second-semester students of the English Department at FKIP Universitas Ekasakti. The main problems found were lack of pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. The research used a descriptive quantitative method. The population consisted of 11 students, and total sampling was applied, meaning all students participated. A speaking test was used as the research instrument. Students were asked to perform in front of the class, and their speaking abilities were analyzed using specific speaking indicators.The results showed that out of 11 students, 1 student achieved a very good level, 8 students were in the good category, and 2 students were in the average category. The overall average score was 76, indicating that students’ speaking ability, especially in interactive speaking through group discussion, was at a good level.
