Abstract

The paper investigates how the digital technology’ advancement has affected our communal being and what could be done to address these challenges. In doing the research, I employ qualitative research to gather the data by documentation, observation, and interview technique with willing and selected informants. My study finds that excessive usage and inability to control the technology endanger human beings, make them submissive to the technology’ logic, and divide community. Community resilience can be achieved if every family units in the neighbourhood are strong and stable. The spread of the COVID-19 pandemic enhances the widespread use of digital technology in many things, such as the learning process, economic transactions; it has changed the social structure. Despite bringing new opportunities, digital technology also presents significant challenges on issues such as gender relations in the family, patterns of parent-child relationships, and even on community health and cohesion. Digital technology might influence the shift of habitus. Still, parents and educational institutions also have the opportunities to contend the digital technological-based habitus and become the axis for the formation of a new habitus for people to navigate their lives guided by love, compassion, and respect.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the effectiveness of Wanita Islam Alkhairaat (WIA) in da'wah development in Palu City. Using a qualitative approach and case study method, this research analyses the da'wah programs implemented by WIA as well as the factors that influence its effectiveness. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with WIA administrators and the community involved, as well as direct observation and document study related to WIA activities. The results showed that WIA has implemented various da'wah programmes that successfully empower women and increase public awareness of Islamic values. However, there are supporting and inhibiting factors that affect the effectiveness of da'wah, such as community support, limited resources, and challenges in reaching a wider audience, especially in Eastern Indonesia such as North Kalimantan, Gorontalo, North Maluku, West Papua, and other provinces. This research is expected to contribute to the literature on the role of Islamic women's organisations in da'wah, as well as provide recommendations for improving the effectiveness of WIA's da'wah activities in the future. To overcome these challenges, a sustainable effort is needed from WIA in increasing the internal capacity of its members in all regions in Eastern Indonesia, especially in Palu City, Central Sulawesi.

Abstract

This research aims to explore how interfaith couples experience encounter government intervention in supporting same-faith marriage according to article 2 Marriage Law number 1 of 1974. The study employs a qualitative approach, utilizing in-depth interviews, direct observations, and an analysis of marriage documents from six interfaith couples located in Surakarta. The participants were specifically chosen as those who had their interfaith marriages acknowledged by the Surakarta District Court and obtained a marriage certificate from the Surakarta City Population and Civil Registry Office. The gathered data were subjected to analysis through the lens of Stella Ting-Toomey’s identity negotiation theory, which highlights four essential skills individuals must possess to effectively navigate differences: self-awareness, awareness of others, adaptability, and empathy. The findings indicate that each interfaith couple in Surakarta engages in negotiation at three key stages: pre-marital negotiations, negotiations occurring during the marriage, and post-marital negotiations. Among the six couples studied, there was no uniformity in the negotiation patterns relating to the governmental-religious obligation that typically favours one-religion marriage. Three distinct negotiation patterns emerged: fully adhering to a state-sanctioned religious marriage, opting for a religious marriage instead of a state marriage, and preferring a state marriage over a religious one.
