Abstract

One of the livestock groups engaged in raising male laying hens is the "Nawawi Farm" Farmer Group, which is located in Nogosari Village, Jember Regency. This group is chaired by Mr. Ainul and consists of approximately 100 breeders. Based on discussions with members of the livestock group, breeders have several problems. Farmers experience a lack of standard information on feed nutrient requirements, feed amount and feed conversion. The unknown standard of feed nutrient in male layer hens causes breeders to find it difficult to achieve the target harvest. Therefore, it is necessary to provide counseling on the production standards of male layer hens in the "Nawawi Farm" livestock group. The method of implementing the activity is in the form of a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with stages, namely the analysis of community needs, counseling on the production standards of male laying hens, and guiding the maintenance of male laying hens. The output of this dedication is that all breeders of the "Nawawi Farm" livestock group can understand the production standards of male laying hens. Rations with protein, namely 18% crude protein, had no effect on feed consumption, FCR, mortality, production index. Rations with 18% crude protein can replace rations with 21% crude protein for feeding male layer hens. This service activity was welcomed by all breeders from the "Nawawi Farm" livestock group so that the service that has been carried out is well organized. Suggestions from this activity are expected that this service will be held at the next meeting in the form of competency training for making rations with the use of local materials in meeting the nutrient feed standards in raising male layer chickens in the "Nawawi Farm" livestock group of Jember Regency, in order to increase the production standards of male layer chickens so that they get greater profit.

Abstract

The objective of this case study was to evaluate good lighting levels in laying hens. The data were collected for three months at UD. Mahakarya Farm Banyuwangi. A total of 4.400 heads of layer chicken were used in this study. The lighting intensityused were 15 lux in cage A and 10 lux in cage B. The average of egg production were75.91% and 73.57% for cage A (15 lux) and cage B (10 lux), respectively. The average of egg weight were 59.37 g and 59.23 gfor cage A (15 lux) and cage B (10 lux), respectively. The results of this study presented that layer chicken aged 25 weeks produced better production efficiency values by 10 lux. At the end of production period(38 weeks) increased production efficiency by 15 lux.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to determine the level of use of fermented snail meat protein hydrolyzate (FSMPH) as a reduction of fish meal (FM) in the ration, and its effect on the production performance of “super” native chicken (SNC). Research materials were SNC unsexing and FSMPH. The study used an experimental method with a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 4 replications. The research ration treatments included P0 = FM 8% without FSMPH (Control), P1= FM 6%+FSMPH 5 ml/kg ration, P2= FM 4%+FSMPH 10 ml/kg ration, P3= FM 2%+FSMPH 15 ml/kg ration, P4= FM 0%+FSMPH 20 ml/kg ration. Research rations began to be applied to chickens aged 2 days old until the harvest was 60 days old. The results showed that the a reduction of FM with FSMPH on SNC ration consumption at each level had no significant effect (P>0.05) but presented a significant difference (P<0.05) on lower final body weight, lower ADG and higher FCR, especially for treatment P4 with a FSMPH level of 20 ml/kg of feed. The conclusion was that FSMPH usage up to 75% can be used to reduce the FM percentage in the ration as much as 8%.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of adding banana weevil flour enriched with β-glucan fiber from Saccharomyces cerevisiae to feed on the physical quality of broiler meat. The research method used a completely randomized design and analysis of variance, this study used 200 DOC consisting of 5 treatments and 4 replications. Each replication contains 10 chickens. The level of β-glucan administration from Saccharomyces cerevisiae with banana weevil flour was P0 (control); P1 (25 ppm); P2 (50 ppm); P3 (75 ppm); and P4 (100 ppm). The treatment started from 16 to 37 days old. Physical quality test was carried out with thigh meat samples. Physical quality test data were analyzed by analysis of variance and if there was a significantly different (P<0.05), it was further tested with Duncan's Multiple Range Test. The results of the physical quality test on broiler chicken meat showed that the addition of banana weevil flour enriched with β-glucan fiber from Saccharomyces cerevisiae in the feed on the physical quality of broiler meat was not significantly different (P˃0.05) on the pH value, water holding capacity, reduced cooking and tenderness. The results of the study concluded that the addition of banana weevil flour enriched with β-glucan fiber from Saccharomyces cerevisiae in feed on the physical quality of broiler meat did not affect the physical quality of broiler meat.

Abstract

The restriction of antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs) in poultry production has increased the interest in phytobiotics as alternative feed additives for broiler chickens. However, the application of free-form phytobiotics is often limited by their instability, poor solubility, volatility, and inconsistent bioavailability. This systematic literature review followed the PRISMA 2020 framework and synthesized evidence from 12 experimental studies that evaluated micro- and nanoencapsulated phytobiotics in broiler chickens. The included studies covered diverse phytobiotic sources, including essential oils, plant extracts, silymarin, mangosteen rind extract, eucalyptus oil, and Peronema canescens leaf extract. Encapsulation systems include chitosan-based nanoparticles, alginate-based matrices, and spray-dried carbohydrate–protein carriers. Overall, encapsulation enhances phytobiotic functionality by improving stability, protecting bioactive compounds from degradation, and enabling controlled gastrointestinal release. Across studies, encapsulated phytobiotics have been associated with improved growth performance, feed efficiency, intestinal morphology, microbial balance, antioxidant status, immune regulation, and meat quality, particularly under disease or stress challenge conditions. Chitosan-based systems were frequently linked to enhanced mucosal interaction and microbiota modulation, whereas alginate and spray-dried matrices were more suitable for protecting hydrophobic and volatile compounds. Importantly, the observed responses were formulation-dependent and varied with the matrix type, dose, particle characteristics, and experimental conditions. Therefore, encapsulated phytobiotics should be considered context-specific, formulation-driven strategies that may support broiler health and reduce reliance on AGPs under defined conditions, rather than as universal replacements for antibiotics.
