Abstract

This research aims to find out the listening comprehension strategies used by sixth semester students of English Education Study Program at University of Bengkulu. The subject of this research is all sixth semester students of English Education Study Program in academic year 2017/2018. This research was using descriptive quantitative as the methodology and the data was collected by using questionnaire as the instrument. The questionnaire consisted of 35 items which represent the use of listening comprehension strategies from cognitive, metacognitive, and socio-affective strategies. This research uses Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22 to analyze the data. Oxford’s (1990) rating scheme for strategy use was used to determine the category of listening comprehension strategies use. The result of data analysis shows that students use cognitive, metacognitive, and socio-affective strategies in listening comprehension. Cognitive strategy was used as the most highly use of strategies in listening comprehension with the mean score 3.54 (high), followed by socio-affective strategy with the mean score 3.43 (moderate) and metacognitive strategy with the mean score 3.4 (moderate). From the results, it is concluded that students are using strategies mostly when doing a listening task at the classroom, by using the lexical and grammatical competences also background knowledge to understand the listening materials.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of compound words on the @PopBase X account in 2024. Using a qualitative approach and the theory of Delahunty and Garvey (2010), this study focuses on identifying three types of compound words: endocentric, exocentric, and copulative. Data were collected from @PopBase tweets throughout 2024, specifically those related to entertainment news and pop culture. The findings of the study revealed that endocentric compounds dominated the data, with terms such as soundtrack and fanbase being the most frequently used. Exocentric compounds, such as box office and blockbuster, and copulative compounds, such as singer-songwriter and action comedy, also appeared but were less frequent. The study also found that most of the compounds had transparent meanings and the compounds in the posts functioned as nouns. These findings suggest that the use of compound words on @PopBase helps facilitate concise and engaging communication, especially in the fast-paced digital environment of platform X. This study contributes to the understanding of word formation in X application and highlights the evolving role of morphology in online entertainment communication.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui Peningkatan KBI bidang Ejaan Bahasa Indonesia bagi Civitas Akademika IAIN Curup. Sasaran kegiatan ini, yakni mahasiswa Prodi Tadris Bahasa Indonesia, Fakultas Tarbiyah, Institut Agama Islam Negeri Curup. Tujuan khusus PkM untuk mengetahui perubahan Sikap (mindset), Pengetahuan, dan Keterampilan dalam menggunakan Ejaan Bahasa Indonesia (EBI). Kegiatan PkM kerjasama Prodi S3 LT UNIB dengan Tim Penyelenggara Prodi Tadris Bahasa Indonesia IAIN Curup, dilaksanakan Senin, 22 September 2025, Pukul 09.00—12.00 WIB., di Aula Dekanat Fak Tarbiyah IAIN Curup dengan peserta sebanyak 50 orang. Kegiatan dengan metode pelatihan melalui ceramah, tanya jawab, dan diskusi terpimpin. Narasumber mempresentasikan materi pedoman umum Ejaan Bahasa Indonesia dengan memberikan latihan praktik penggunaan EBI melalui tahapan teknis; pretes, pemberian pemahaman materi, dan postes. Hasil kegiatan PkM dapat dikemukakan bahwa telah terjadi Peningkatan KBI bidang EBI mahasiswa Prodi Tadris bahasa Indonesia IAIN Curup. Khususnya, sesuai sasaran telah terjadi perubahan pola pikir (mindset), pengetahuan, dan keterampilan dalam menggunakan Ejaan bahasa Indonesia secara tertulis. Hal ini terlihat dari perubahan (1) pola pikir mahasiswa dalam menulis kalimat dan teks pendek telah memperhatikan kaidah Ejaan Bahasa Indonesia secara benar, (2) penguasaan pengetahuan dan kemahiran berbahasa Indonesia dalam menerapkan unsur pemakaian huruf, penulisan kata, pemakaian tanda baca, dan penulisan unsur serapan sudah sesuai ketentuan, yakni terjadi peningkatan dari hasil pretes kategori cukup (rerata 69,75) meningkat pada hasil postes berkategori tinggi (rerata 80,5), dan (3) aktivitas mahasiswa Prodi Tadris bahasa Indonesia dalam mengikuti pelatihan menjadi lebih antusias dan bersemangat. Hal ini juga ditunjang dengan bukti relevan hasil jawaban pertanyaan kebermanfaatan menyatakan, bahwa pelatihan Peningkatan KBI bidang EBI ini bermanfaat dalam membuka kembali wawasan kaidah bahasa Indonesia.
