AbstractIn the Javanese minds, the essence and relationship of manand God are the cornerstone to build a holistic view of genealogy and direction of life. The wayang/ puppet story of âSemar Kuningâ is one of some exemplary narrations which comprehends the relation of man-God in common people perspectives in the case that the legitimacy of King-God is questioned metaphysically and ethically.The character of Semar in the Javanese world has a centralsymbolic and mystical role to bring a harmony and overcome adisorder in the natural and social life. The central symbolic role of Semar in protecting and taking care of the world is based onJavanese understanding of the man-God relationship which tends to accept its relationship in ontical sense. Although this tendency is a part of religious perspective mainstream at the time, it still keeps the magi function of the âwayang kulitâ performance to overcome cosmic and ethical disharmony in the world. In the ethical terminology, the ethical discourse that had been given in the wayang/ puppet story of âSemar Kuningâ is a virtue ethics which shows bad and good moral attitudes.Keyword: Deconstruction, Javanese Perspectives, the man-Godrelationship, Semar Kuning, Wayang/ puppet.

AbstractHeidegger viewed âfreedomâ and âtranscendenceâ (retrospective consciousness) as the element that determines âthe way of human existenceâ and also the human understanding of âhistoryâ radically. Philosophy of history is the main point ofHeideggerâs philosophy. It is showed by his most fundamentalconcept of âtemporalityâ. Heidegger so far developed the basiccharacteristic of relationship of âBeingâ (reality) and âtimeâ(horizon) as a dialectical relationship. Because of his âpoeticânuance, Heidegger often makes someone confused for his called for âBeingâ as a âpersonâ, e.g., it as âthe giver of blessingâ. Heidegger brings to the âtrueâ understanding that all philosophical inquiries start and end in the understanding of human being.Keywords: the way of being, being, history, human being

The shoping of modern society tends to refuse my theological legitimation. This pattern leads the society face serious problems because every domain in human life hasdeveloped in autonomous basic legitimation. There is no systemwhich organizes rules to knowledge, science, ethics, politics, andlaws. Mass media as free market of ideologiea is a power whichdominates the significance of public sphere. This paper concernsin discussive the problem of communication as mediation ofmeaning in modern society. Based on an analysis ofcommunication aspects in modern society, we draw the prospectiveconclusion on which to build the future. Â

In this work, “Horkheimer’s critical theory†is critically discussed in its relation with the presence of “prestigious†fact achieved by positivistic sciences. However, positivistic sciences have many contributions in providing the new dimensions for human life. In the case of Horkheimer’s critical theory, it is clear that Horkheimer does not appreciate enough the positive-capitalistic approach. Even though, the antagonistic relation between “self†and “nature†in Horkheimer’s point of view must be investigated. For social scientists that has social theory orientations and rigorous and applicative methodology, Horkheimer’s critical theory is viewed as uncompleted social theory because he never provides a comprehensive method for social analyses. Even social theory properly leaves its function in “portraying†and analyzing community, Horkheimer reminds that there is a more important function of social theory called as “emancipatory-awarenessâ€. If human beings do not believe in optimism to pick up the better situation or to realize their “utopiaâ€, actually they have failed to sense their self-existence.

This study is an attempt to re-question the base arguments forsustainable developmentproposal with regardto environmental management. This attempt is important considering intensive deploymemt of cost and benefit calculations in every environmental management policy, which rooted in the utilitarian philosophical tradition. This research runs in the area of political philosophyandemploys methodical components includingdescription, interpretation, critical analysis, and verstehen. The current research suggests that the emergence of sustainable development as a concept of environment management goes along with modernity with all issues that it brings. The proposal of sustainable developments can be categorized into constructive postmodernismapproach. The main purpose of this proposal is to create a condition of balance between the needs of the present generation and the adequacy of the needs of the future generations. However, the concept appears to raise a new concern considering the meaning of “sustainabilityâ€has become contestation with strong tendency to economicconsideration which reduces the calculation of cost-benefits into cash-value calculations. This reductionis tendency leads to a dilemma considering the aspiration of shiftinganthropocentrism to ecocentrismunderlying behind concept of sustainable development will ironically produce a new forms of anthropocentrism.
