Abstract

One way to control pests of rice plants by using ornamental plants is known as Refugia. Planting refugia is one of the efforts to conserve natural enemies. Refugia is an area overgrown with several types of plants that can provide shelter, food sources or other resources for natural enemies such as predators and parasitoids. The Refugia technique is more economical and also certainly more environmentally friendly and health, because by using this technique we don't use chemicals that actually harm health. Agricultural systems that develop environmental-based pest control techniques, refugia are expected to maintain the sustainability of agroecosystems in the field, by following the principles of Integrated Pest Management. The purpose of this activity is to introduce the refugia system to farmers and provide a pilot as a refugia system application. The activity consisted of the socialization of the introduction of the refugia system and planting of species of refugia plants as a pilot. Key words: integrated pest control, pilot, refugia

Abstract

Transect is one of the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) techniques used to conduct direct observations of the environment and community resources. This activity is carried out by walking through the village area and following a certain path that has been mutually agreed upon. The purpose and benefits of transects are to clearly see the natural conditions and complexity of the farming system, and to maintain limited natural resources run by the community. A description of the natural resources of the Muktisari Village community along with its problems can be obtained from the village transect activities, as well as changes in the village's potential. The village of Muktisari is divided into three parts. The three blocks comprise Ciloa Girang, Karangsari and Ciloa Hilir. Every block in the Village of Muktisari has its own characteristics. There is still a lot of land which has not been optimally used, there are still several plants whose maintenance and manufacturing processes have not been intensively carried out. In the village of Muktisari, soil fertility is beginning to decline and the expertise and attitudes of farmers who still maintain the tradition, making it difficult for communities to introduce new technologies to boost the agricultural activities. Abstract

Sirnagalih Village is a village that has undergone urbanization with a large number of population that generates a lot of garbage from every household, both organic and non-organic waste. One of the organic waste that is not utilized by the community is the remaining taro plants. Taro can be processed into compost that can fertilize plants. But unfortunately not many people are aware of the importance of using organic waste to be made more useful. This has led to the implementation of community assistance programs, namely socialization and composting. The purpose of this socialization and composting facilitation assistance is to increase public awareness in utilizing organic waste based on waste problems that occur in Sirnagalih Village. The method used is by interviewing the public about issues related to waste, socializing waste segregation, and making compost with the community. The result of this socialization is that farmers can process taro into compost and increase farmers' awareness of the importance of utilizing waste, especially organic waste so that it can benefit the plants again. The development of composting skills from other organic waste needs to be carried out independently by the community. In this regard, various parties including Bappeda, village government, institutions, and village government can work together well so that community service activities can run well and can develop the potential of local villages. Keywords: compost, leftover taro harvest, organic waste, utilization
