Abstract

The aim of this study is to explain the strategies employed by gay individuals  to overcome discriminatory attitudes and behaviours perpetuated by society. This research is qualitative using , phenomenological approach and utilising a purposive sampling technique.. This paper used the data analysis from Creswell, utilising source triangulation and member checking. The subjects of this study were four gay individuals from the Gaya Mahardhika Foundation in Surakarta who had experienced discriminatory treatment from society. This research uses the social construction theory of Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann. This study shows that the social construction of homosexuality is shaped by a dialectical process. It involves externalisation, objectivation, and internalisation. These processes can be observed in the following ways (1) The externalisation process involves openly expressing one's social identity and sexual orientation, as well as forming alliances within the gay community and participating in community activities. (2) The objectivation process entails the ascription of values, norms and meanings to one's social identity and sexual orientation. The participants in this study perceive their social identity and sexual orientation as objective reality, formed naturally like that of other heterosexual people. They refuse to justify or accept society's negative views and stigma toward their social identity and sexual orientation. (3) The third process, internalisation, involves the participants trying to change society's views of their group (gay through community social activities. They proactively advocate for their rights to be treated fairly and equally. hey seek recognition from the government and society.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the roles and interactions of both entities in achieving village development goals. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive case study approach, located in Tanjungharjo Village, Kapas District, Bojonegoro Regency. The village was selected due to its contextual relevance for studying the working relationship and social interaction between the village head and the Village Consultative Body (BPD) in physical development decision-making. The research subjects include village members and relevant officials involved in the process. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews with research subjects, participatory observation during village meetings and development activities, as well as document analysis of various official village records. Data were analyzed inductively and qualitatively, starting with transcription and coding to identify key themes, followed by thematic analysis to explore the dynamics of decision-making. The results of the study indicate that the working relationship between the Village Head and the Village Consultative Body (BPD) in Tanjungharjo Village varies and affects the effectiveness of village development decision-making. A harmonious and mutually supportive relationship creates an inclusive and democratic decision-making environment, while tension or conflict can hinder collaboration. Factors such as differing viewpoints, lack of communication, the dominance of the Village Head, and personal or political conflicts influence this relationship. Enhancing the understanding of the BPD's role, communication, and active participation is necessary to address these challenges. This study aligns with Social Exchange Theory, which emphasizes the importance of positive interaction for decision quality, and supports effective communication, training, and recognition of the BPD's role for successful village development.

Abstract

The increasing population in Bekasi Regency has led to higher demand for housing, vehicles, and industrial areas, resulting in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of approximately 8,148,642 tons per year, which negatively impact human health. Residential yards hold significant potential as green spaces that can be developed to enhance carbon absorption through vegetation. This research aims to analyze the role of society in utilizing residential yards to mitigate carbon emissions. The statistical analysis was conducted using the Chi-square test with a significance level of p-value 0.05. The results indicate that the success of planting vegetation in residential yards is significantly associated with age, gender, and education level. However, cultural factors do not show a significant relationship with yard utilization in Bekasi Regency. The most effective yard model for carbon absorption includes diverse vegetation types, particularly perennial plants, which can absorb a greater amount of carbon dioxide. A residential yard with a variety of fruit and perennial plants can absorb approximately 228 kg of CO2 per year for a housing area of 120 m

Abstract

This research aims to determine the conflict between fishermen and shrimp farming entrepreneurs in Nglebeng Village, Trenggalek Regency and the conflict resolution used. This qualitative research uses a case study approach carried out in Nglebeng Village. Using purposive sampling, the author collected data through observation and in-depth interviews with informants with specific criteria. In terms of validity testing, the author uses the triangulation technique, which is done by collecting similar data and comparing the data to obtain a picture of the information. Data analysis was carried out using interactive analysis techniques. The research results concluded that differences in interests between groups of fishermen and shrimp farming entrepreneurs caused the conflict between fishermen in the waters of Konang Nglebeng Beach. In this case, it is related to environmental pollution. Conflicts are caused by differences in interests held by each group, where shrimp farmers want to develop their business and fishermen want the sea not to be polluted by waste because it can disrupt the ecosystem of marine creatures. Conflict resolution in dealing with the problem of shrimp farms and fishermen is solved using Dahrendorf theory, namely Conciliation, Mediation, and Arbitration.
