Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to see the politeness of Indonesian in a printed daily newspaper published in Bali, namely the daily Tribun Bali which presents a page of a column called "Smart Traveler" that discusses tourism objects in Bali. In this study, two points were researched, namely the form of politeness and the form of Indonesian politeness based on the principle of politeness (Leech, 1993). Data obtained naturally by reading the daily Tribun Bali, especially the tourism column "Smart Traveler". Then the data is coded according to the function of the Indonesian language, especially in the field of pragmatics concerning the principle of politeness, and transcribed on the data card. The data then were analyzed using two aspects, namely, first, the data were analyzed to determine linguistic elements such as phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics in a predetermined time. Second, the data were analyzed and presented descriptively, then the results obtained were viewed from a theoretical perspective to find out why that was all that happened. In analyzing the data, the distributional method is used, which is working within the scope of the language itself without connecting things outside it.

Abstract

The story of Pandawa Lima ‘Hikayat Pandawa Lima’ (abbreviated to HPL) written in Malay is a literary work transformed from the Mahabharata Epic ‘Wiracarita Mahabharata,’ especially ‘Kakawin Bharatayuda’ (abbreviated to KBY) written in the Old Javanese language. As a transformational literary work, additions, and reductions could not be avoided. The part that was added and reduced depended on the adapter’s way of thinking and socio-culture values. It was also closely related to the linguistic, literary and cultural conventions inspiring the transformational process. This present study is intended to discuss how the adapter received KBY as the source text (hypogram), what adjustments were made, and how they were made. The problems of the study were analyzed using the theory of literary reception and the qualitative and hermeneutic method. The objective of the study is to reveal the HPL adapter’s reception of its source text (hypogram). The result of the analysis shows that the HPL adapter adapted KBY without degrading the hypogram, meaning that the great values which the hypogram contains are still intact and complete. However, several adjustments were made in HPL; they are the incidents, names of weapons, and characters.

Abstract

This study entitled "Changes in Indonesian Language Sounds in Language Acquisition in Children Age 3-4 Years, in Jagaraga Village, Kuripan District, West Lombok Regency: A Psycholinguistic Study" which discusses changes in sounds that occur in the speech of children aged 3-4 years and the cause of the change in sound. In this study, researchers focused more on children who use Indonesian as their first language or mother tongue. Children's language development starts from the family and largely depends on the attention of parents and those around them. Language acquisition is associated with mastering a language without being based directly, that is, without going through formal education to teach it. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method, because the data studied are in the form of words not numbers, namely the observation/interview method with qualitative analysis techniques and the presentation of the results of data analysis is carried out using formal and informal methods (Sudaryanto, 2014: 214).The results of this study indicate that the types of sound changes found in the speech of children aged 3-4 years are assimilation, vocal modification, neutralization and zeronization and anaptiksis. Sounds that experience changes in the speech of children aged 3-4 years are dominated by sound [r] and sound [s]. This is because the growth of the articulatory organ in children is not perfect, causing children to have difficulty pronouncing sounds. This case is often referred to as lisp, which is a condition where a person has difficulty pronouncing certain letters or words correctly (Halodoc, 2018). There are internal factors and external factors that influence the cause of sound changes in children aged 3-4 years.

Abstract

A previous study was conducted on types of clauses or sentences in Bahasa Indonesia. This study attempted to focus more on the clauses constructed by a single argument in BI. The data were collected from BI speakers, literature, and the researchers' intuition as BI speakers. Data analysis was implemented using a descriptive method. The results found that BI has several clauses, such as intransitive, antipassive, stative, and passive. However, BI owns no non-stative and split transitive clauses. It can be shown that affixes in BI play a significant role in determining types of construction, particularly in the passive. As one of the agglutinative languages, BI shows its property, in which affixed occurred.

Abstract

This article aims at establishing hypothesis-based suggestions in promoting government public policy toward Indonesian using indigenous language. This research was conducted descriptively to describe the phenomena found. The data were also obtained from libraries and related sources. The results of the study indicate that the rapid development of the Bahasa Indonesia does not necessarily eliminate the role of regional languages. This is because regional languages still have a vital function. The existence of regional languages makes it easy for the government to convey their policies, especially for people who still use regional languages. Therefore, it is important to always preserve regional languages.
