Abstract

This study analyzes the short story “Cerita Calon Koruptor” by Galang Gelar Taqwallah as a literary diagnosis of the social pathology of corruption in Indonesia. The study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a sociological literary approach. The primary data is the text of the short story “Cerita Calon Koruptor,” included in the anthology Merah pada Melati, while the secondary data consists of relevant literature. The analysis technique used is close reading across three stages: text reading, coding, and interpretation. This study found three main findings: corruption is depicted as an aspiration that is inherited and normalized across generations; the crisis of honesty is manifested through moral inversion and horizontal political brutality; and rationalization functions as a psychological mechanism that perpetuates the cycle of corruption. These findings underscore the importance of integrating the social pathology framework, which has been more widely used in sociological studies, into Indonesian literary studies as a more comprehensive analytical perspective compared to partial satirical or sociological approaches, and highlight the potential of short stories on corruption as teaching materials to build critical awareness of the normalization of corrupt values.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the difficulties students face in developing quality children's story writing skills, particularly in relation to emotional literacy and content suitability for children's psychological development. Writing children's stories requires writers to not only master narrative techniques but also the ability to manage and reflect emotions effectively so that their writing can touch and be relevant to children. The main objective of this study is to identify the difficulties experienced by students majoring in Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) in writing children's stories in this context and to analyse the role of emotional literacy in improving the quality of their writing. This study uses a qualitative approach involving three classes of fourth-year students as samples. Data collection was conducted through surveys, interviews, and observations of the writing process. The results of the study show that students face challenges in two main aspects: first, difficulty in choosing ideas and themes that are appropriate for children's cognitive and emotional development stages; second, challenges in integrating story elements (characters, plot, theme) into a cohesive whole. These findings consistently underline the importance of emotional literacy as a determining variable that helps students choose themes and compose stories with the appropriate emotional depth. Therefore, this study recommends the need for a holistic curriculum integration, including comprehensive training in emotional literacy and an in-depth understanding of child development psychology to improve the quality of their writing.

Abstract

Research on phonological awareness has developed rapidly, yet the position of diagnostic assessment in early reading has not been mapped in an integrated manner. This study aims to map research trends in phonological awareness and diagnostic assessment in early reading during the 2014–2024 period. This study employed bibliometric analysis and a systematic literature review. Data were collected by retrieving articles from the Scopus database using Boolean queries. From an initial 103 articles, 40 met the inclusion criteria following the PRISMA 2020 flow diagram. The data were analyzed using VOSviewer to map publication trends, contributions by countries and institutions, author collaboration, and keyword co-occurrence, followed by thematic analysis to identify research focuses, methods, populations, and major findings. The results show that publications have increased since 2020 and that the United States is the dominant contributor. Thematically, the literature is dominated by studies on phonological awareness and phonological processing (35%), followed by decoding and word-reading development (25%), whereas diagnostic assessment and screening account for only 15%. The findings further indicate that phonological awareness is the main predictor of early reading in 20 articles, decoding contributes to word-reading development in 11 articles, and only 6 articles report diagnostic assessment instruments for screening. This study confirms that stronger integration between phonological awareness and diagnostic assessment is needed to support the early detection of reading difficulties.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the function of death in Leila S. Chudori’s novel Laut Bercerita as an instrument of power and a medium of resistance against historical erasure. This research employs a descriptive-interpretative qualitative approach. The data consist of words, phrases, sentences, dialogues, and narratives in Laut Bercerita that represent death, grief, political violence, and collective memory. The data source is Leila S. Chudori’s novel Laut Bercerita, published by Kepustakaan Populer Gramedia in 2017. The data were collected through library research, close reading, and note-taking techniques. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, data interpretation, and conclusion drawing by applying Herman Feifel’s thanatological framework and the concept of memory politics. The findings show that death in Laut Bercerita is not positioned as an individual event, but as a political practice that erases traces of resistance and produces historical emptiness. Awareness of death triggers the existential transformation of characters, particularly the shift from personal grief to moral and historical consciousness. In addition, the deaths of activists shape the politics of memory and collective trauma, which are manifested through narratives, rituals, and actions of families and civil society communities. These findings affirm the role of literature as a space for articulating memory and resisting historical erasure.

Abstract

Structural gender inequality persists in Sundanese society despite the cultural philosophy of silih asah, silih asih, and silih asuh, while folklore continues to transmit gender norms across generations. However, studies examining Sundanese folklore through a local feminist perspective to support gender literacy remain limited. This study investigates patterns of women's representation, identifies the local feminist values embedded in four Sundanese folktales (Sangkuriang, Lutung Kasarung, Nyi Pohaci Sanghyang Sri, and Nyi Anteh), and explores their potential contribution to gender-literacy learning within Indonesia's Independent Curriculum. Employing a qualitative descriptive design, the study integrates content and thematic analysis through three coding stages (open coding, focused coding, and thematic synthesis) with credibility enhanced by source triangulation and multi-coder verification. The findings reveal three dialectically interconnected models of women's representation: domestic-submissive, resistant-empowered, and ambivalent figures. These representations embody four interrelated local feminist values: inner fortitude, moral integrity, relational wisdom, and non-confrontational cultural resistance. The study argues that these values constitute an indigenous feminist epistemology that complements and extends dominant Western feminist frameworks by emphasizing culturally embedded forms of agency and resistance. Practically, the findings demonstrate the pedagogical potential of Sundanese folklore as culturally responsive learning materials for fostering students' critical gender literacy, although further classroom-based intervention studies are needed to evaluate their instructional effectiveness.

Abstract

Evaluation of literature learning tends to focus only on cognitive aspects and pays less attention to the potential of literature as a medium for strengthening character and student self-reflection. This study aims to analyze the evaluation model of literature learning based on Guided Inquiry Learning as an instrument for strengthening character values and student self-reflection. This research used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. The data were collected using the literature study method through reviewing academic sources and analyzed using the theory of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The results showed that the Guided Inquiry Learning evaluation model has six main stages, namely orientation, formulating problems, formulating hypotheses, collecting information, testing hypotheses, and concluding. Each learning syntax allows students to construct personal meaning, evaluate the value in the text, and reflect on personal experiences. Evaluation is not only a tool to measure text comprehension, but also a means to build character, increase self-awareness, and strengthen critical thinking skills. The integration of character values in the evaluation process makes this model very relevant in 21st century education.

Abstract

BIPA learning is inseparable from cultural learning. This study aims to validate and test a writing instrument for descriptive texts containing the tourism of the Cosmological Axis of Yogyakarta for BIPA Level 5. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of the historical-cultural values of the Cosmological Axis into an authentic portfolio writing-based assessment for foreign learners. This study uses the ADDIE Research and Development (R&D) model with an exploratory descriptive approach. The research subjects consisted of three expert validators, two academics who are competent in the fields of Indonesian language teaching, assessment, or BIPA curriculum, and one BIPA practitioner who is experienced in managing productive learning. In addition, two BIPA Level 5 students were involved as limited trial participants. The validation analysis results indicate that the developed instrument consistently falls into the feasible to highly feasible categories across all expert validators. Furthermore, the limited trial results prove that this instrument is effective; the learners were able to follow the portfolio writing process well and correctly understand the cultural concepts of the Cosmological Axis of Yogyakarta. Theoretically, this research contributes to enriching the literature on the development of BIPA assessments integrated with local culture (the Cosmological Axis of Yogyakarta) and digital media (Notion). Practically, this instrument serves as a valid and comprehensive evaluation tool for teachers, and can be utilized as an independent learning resource for BIPA Level 5 learners.
