Abstract

Poverty reduction is not usually at the heart of the tourism agenda. Yet tourism is significant in many poor countries and is already affecting the livelihoods of millions of poor people, positively and negatively. Poverty reduction requires pro-poor growth. Concerted effort is needed to maximize the contribution of tourism to this. Pro-poor tourism (PPT) interventions aim to increase the net benefits for the poor from tourism, and ensure that tourism growth contributes to poverty reduction. PPT is not a specific product or sector of tourism, but an approach. PPT strategies aim to unlock opportunities for the poor whether for economic gain, other livelihood benefits, or participation in decision-making. Pro-poor tourism overlaps with, but is different from, the ‘sustainable tourism agenda. Pro-poor focuses more on countries of the South, not on mainstream destinations in the North. Poverty is the core focus, rather than one element of (mainly environmental) sustainability.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of environmentally friendly online food delivery services in tourist destinations, aiming to align with the principles of sustainable tourism. The primary objective is to analyze how tourist values influence their attitudes and purchase intentions toward online food delivery in these destinations. A quantitative research method is employed, utilizing Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) to assess the impact of customer value on attitudes and purchase intentions toward Green Online Food Delivery (Green OFD). The study sample comprises 120 tourists with prior experience using online food delivery services during their visits to tourist destinations. The results indicate that the availability of Green OFD, derived from environmentally friendly local products, significantly affects tourists' attitudes and purchase intentions, especially among those who are mindful of sustainability issues. Tourists demonstrate positive attitudes and purchase intentions when they recognize functional, emotional, social, and epistemic values, including the feeling of contributing to environmental conservation by opting for Green OFD. The findings offer theoretical and practical insights for advancing sustainable tourism destination development.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of halal tourism has intensified the need for structured halal procurement in the hospitality industry. However, hotels face significant challenges in maintaining halal compliance due to limited supplier availability, regulatory inconsistencies, financial constraints, and knowledge gaps. This study examines these challenges and proposes strategic solutions for halal procurement efficiency. The findings highlight that hotels in non-Muslim-majority regions struggle with supply chain disruptions caused by a lack of certified halal suppliers and high certification costs. Additionally, inconsistent global halal regulations make standardization difficult for multinational hotel chains, while limited staff training further complicates compliance. This study recommends expanding supplier networks through international partnerships, implementing structured halal training programs, and introducing financial support mechanisms such as tax incentives and certification subsidies to address these barriers. Furthermore, harmonizing global halal certification standards through mutual recognition agreements (MRAs) can enhance regulatory consistency and supply chain transparency. The conceptual framework developed in this study illustrates how halal regulations, consumer preferences, and sustainability considerations drive halal procurement strategies, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts among hotel operators, policymakers, and certification authorities. Strengthening halal procurement practices will improve consumer trust, operational efficiency, and the competitiveness of halal-certified hotels, positioning the hospitality industry as a key player in the global halal tourism market.

Abstract

Homestay is one of the amenities available in tourist villages as a place to stay for visiting tourists. Homestays have the advantage of offering cheap prices and a stay experience that cannot be obtained when staying at a hotel. Even though a homestay is basically an ordinary house that is rented out by the owner to tourists, a homestay must still have several criteria that are met as eligibility requirements to become a homestay. This research aims to present data and information regarding the implementation of ASEAN homestay standards in Hanjeli village, Sukabumi using qualitative methods by conducting observations and interview with informants, namely homestay owners and tourist village managers. Based on the results of the research that has been conducted, the level of achievement of the implementation of ASEAN homestay standards in Hanjeli Tourism Village has not reached 100%.

Abstract

This study investigates how contemporary experience drivers—digital guest experience, sustainability perception, brand authenticity, and service personalization—shape perceived asset performance and customer loyalty in the Indonesian hospitality context. Using data collected from 367 hotel guests across Indonesia, the research develops and tests an integrated structural model grounded in Experience Economy Theory, Service-Dominant Logic, and Customer Engagement Theory. While prior literature often assumes that all experience drivers uniformly enhance guest value, this study reveals a more nuanced mechanism: some drivers (e.g., authenticity, personalization) directly influence experiential value, while others (notably digital guest experience) primarily drive customer engagement. The findings identify experiential value and customer engagement as critical mediators that link experience design to perceived asset performance. Specifically, the study demonstrates that guest engagement is essential for converting technological features into favorable asset evaluations. By shifting the focus from traditional financial metrics to guest-centered perceived asset performance, this research emphasizes the psychological and emotional dimensions of hospitality value. Theoretical contributions include clarifying differentiated experience pathways and empirically validating a guest-centric model of asset performance. For practitioners, the results highlight the need to align digital innovation with emotionally resonant service strategies to foster loyalty in emerging hospitality markets like Indonesia.
