Abstract

Agarwood is a non-timber forest product having high economic value, however, its population in nature is getting decrease. Gyrinops versteegii, an agarwood-producing plant, has been listed in Appendix II CITES, therefore, exploitation of the agarwood in nature must be reduced. An effort to reduce the agarwood exploitation the nature is by agarwood cultivation including cultivation of agarwood-producing plant and agarwood inoculation. Some of agarwood inoculation methods are simpori and implant techniques. Simpori is a modified inoculation method using porous nail and Fusarium solani, meanwhile implant technique uses drill and pieces of wood that is soaked in F. solani spores. The present study aimed to determine the best inoculation technique applied to G. versteegii tree trunk at 4 to 5m height, comparing simpori and implant techniques. This study used completely randomizes design with two treatments (simpori and implant techniques). The result showed that the averages yield of production agarwood produced by simpori and implant techniques are 0.66 and 0.64%, respectively. Based on SNI 7631:2011, the visual quality of the produced agarwood belongs to kemedangan TG.C. In conclusion, both simpori and implant technique produced agarwood in similar quality and quantity at six months inoculation, however, simpori is more practical for application in the field. This study provides additional data about agarwood produced by simpori and implant technique and give the alternative methods for agarwood farmers producing their agarwood themselves.

Abstract

Air pollution caused by motor vehicle emissions is a significant environmental issue in Indonesia. One of the main pollutants from these emissions is carbon monoxide (CO), which can harm the environment and inhibit plant growth. High carbon monoxide exposure can cause plants to experience stress. This study aims to analyze the biomass accumulation of several plant species from the Poaceae family (Setaria plicata, Rottboellia cochinchinensis, Eleusine indica, and Paspalum conjugatum) under carbon monoxide exposure. The research method used was an experimental study with a Two-Factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The factors tested included plant species (four types) and the frequency of carbon monoxide exposure (three levels), with each treatment repeated three times. The results showed that the shoot dry weight was influenced by the plant species and the frequency of carbon monoxide exposure separately, with no interaction between the two factors. Rottboellia cochinchinensis had the highest shoot and root dry weight accumulation compared to the other species, while Paspalum conjugatum had the lowest biomass accumulation. The frequency of carbon monoxide exposure twice a week for two consecutive weeks resulted in the lowest shoot dry weight among the Poaceae plants.

Abstract

Agarwood is a resin formed in plants that belong to the Thymelaeaceae family, including Gyrinops Versteeg, as a result of damage or microbial infection. The content of sesquiterpenes in both the wild and cultivated agarwood indicates its quality. Nevertheless, information regarding the comparison between the content has not been provided. This study aimed at identifying the sesquiterpenes in G. versteegii inoculated using the simpori technique with various dosages of inoculants (3; 9; and 18 mL/porous nail) and harvested at 18 months after inoculation. The harvested agarwood was extracted using n-hexane solvent. The chemical compositions were subsequently analyzed using the GC-MS. Compounds with a similarity index above 80% were analyzed, including their presence and percentage in the agarwood. The statistical significance test was carried out with a 5% level of significance. The Kruskal-Wallis test showed a P-value <0.05, indicating the significant differences between the inoculant dosages on the percentage of sesquiterpenes. Agarwood with F. solani at a dosage of 9 mL/porous nail shows the best result with a Mean Rank of 16 and 23.69% of sesquiterpenes. It contains aromadendrene; α-selinene; (1aS,4aS,8aR)-4a,8,8-trimethyl-2-methylene-1,1a,2,4a,5,6,7,8-ctahydrocyclopropa[d]naphthalene; 6-Methyl-2-(4-methylcyclohex-3-en-1-yl)hepta-1,5-dien-4-ol; alloaromadendrene; and eremophilene. Therefore, this dosage is recommended for optimizing agarwood production.

Abstract

Poverty is still a problem in Indonesia, especially in underdeveloped areas. Underdeveloped areas are areas where the region and its people are less developed than other regions on a national scale. The classification of disadvantaged areas is determined by the president in the Presidential Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 63 of 2020 concerning the Determination of Underdeveloped Regions of 2020-2024. Various policies need to be set by the government to overcome poverty in underdeveloped areas. Program planning strategies may be different for each region. Therefore, in order to achieve an optimal implementation of poverty alleviation programs, it is necessary to group the districts covered in underdeveloped areas in Indonesia based on poverty indicators. The data used is macro data from the characteristics of each region in disadvantaged areas obtained from regional publications in the figures for each district. From the results of the analysis of k means clustering formed three groups with different characteristics in each cluster. In cluster one, the focus of government policies is on employment and sanitation aspects, cluster two is on health, education, and employment aspects, cluster three is on all aspects because cluster three is the area with the highest percentage of poor people compared to the other two clusters. The high percentage of poor people is also followed by other poor aspects.

Abstract

Nowadays, diphtheria cases always increase from year to year. Until now, no drug has been found to cure diphtheria, but there is the most effective way of prevention through immunization. It is known that diphtheria sufferers who don’t get immunizations increase every year. The purpose of this study is to determine the individual and contextual factors that influence the status of DPT immunization in Indonesia and its trends and to know the diversity between cities. The data used in this study are Susenas KOR and consumption and expenditure (KP) modules. The results of multilevel binary logistic regression analysis indicate that individual factors that influence the status of DPT immunization are residence classification, highest maternal education, ownership of immunization cards, birth order, and household poverty status. While the contextual are the ratio of posyandu to 100,000 population and PDRB. Characteristics of children aged 12-59 who do not get immunizations tend to live in rural areas, have mothers with the highest education in junior high school, don’t have immunization cards, who born late in households with many children, and come from poor households. Besides that, there is a diversity of characteristics between cities, which amounted to 22,19%.

Abstract

Religious character is an important dimension in basic education that aims to shape students to be faithful, pious, and have noble character in accordance with the values of Islamic teachings. This study aims to analyze the role of local wisdom Sumbang Duo Baleh in shaping the religious character of elementary school students. Sumbang Duo Baleh is twelve Minangkabau customary prohibitions rooted in the philosophy of Adat Basandi Syarak, Syarak Basandi Kitabullah. The study was conducted at elementary school, which integrates local Minangkabau content into the curriculum. The research method used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that although there are still obstacles in the form of limited teaching materials and differences in the level of teacher understanding, the implementation of Sumbang Duo Baleh contributes significantly to strengthening students' religious character. The values instilled include behavior that respects others, maintains politeness in dress and speech, and fosters awareness of personal responsibility before Allah SWT. This integration of local wisdom also fosters positive habits in students' daily lives, such as disciplined worship, polite speech, and avoiding reprehensible behavior. These findings confirm that the use of Sumbang Duo Baleh as local content is relevant and effective in supporting the development of students' religious character while simultaneously strengthening Minangkabau cultural identity amidst the currents of modern education.
