Abstract

Abstract: The complexity of the challenges for nursing education makes the nursing study program think hard to produce various innovations in curriculum implementation during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aims to explore the strategy of the nursing undergraduate study program in implementing a nursing curriculum that is oriented to stakeholder demands during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study uses a qualitative approach, using interpretive phenomenological methods. Purposive and snowball sampling was used in this study to help the researchers identify the key informant, with the criteria: ten nursing lecturers who are active in giving lectures in the COVID-19 pandemic, twenty stakeholders (among them: students, nursing clinical instructors, clinical professional nurses, users of nursing graduates) and willing to be an informant. Using semi-structured interview techniques, the data obtained is then analyzed using the interactive analysis model of Miles, Huberman & Saldana. The results found five themes, including (1) Increase collaboration with instructors from the clinic; (2) Strengthening the skills of teachers with the blended learning method; (3) Streamline the learning management system; (4) Develop community-based nursing learning during pandemic; (5) Open-effective communication with stakeholders. The effectiveness of the curriculum implementation strategy during the COVID-19 pandemic requires pro-activity from the entire academic community of the nursing study program, to produce quality nursing graduates and meet the high demands of stakeholders during the multi-crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic. The success of the nursing education curriculum system during the COVID-19 pandemic is strongly influenced by the active and positive contributions and collaborations of nursing stakeholders. Keywords: COVID-19 pandemic; curriculum strategies; nursing education; resilience; stakeholders challenges.

Abstract

Language ability is one of the basic abilities that must be possessed and studied by all children aged 4-5 years. The giving of learning media is the stimulation that most influences the language skills of preschoolers. Some suitable learning media are Wayang Kertas media and picture story books. This study aims to determine the differences between language stimulation using Wayang Kertas media and picture story books on the language skills of preschoolers (4-5 years). This study used Experimental Design with the One-Shot Case and Equivalent Control Group method. The sample were 36 respondents. Sample collection technique was obtained using Simple Random Sampling with statistical T test unpaired. Data was collected using an observation sheet that the indicators were language skills of preschoolers (4-5 years). The results showed that there was an influence of language skills with the average of Wayang Kertas media groups 24.22 while the picture book media group 22.94 after they were given language stimulation using Wayang Kertas media and picture story books. Statistical test results showed that there were differences between the effect of language stimulation using paper puppet media and picture story books on language skills in preschool children (4-5 years) with a p value = 0.013 (0.013 <0.05).In conclusion, there were differences between the influence of language stimulation using Wayang Kertas media and picture story books on language stimulation of language skills, providing appropriate and regular language stimulation because Wayang Kertas media can give auditory and visual stimulation as one of the factors that influence the language ability. The used of Wayang Kertas media can make language skills more optimal.

Abstract

Patient safety in hospitals cannot be separated from the role of nurses in providing nursing care. Nursing students who practice in the room are part of the system and are required to have patient safety competencies. Therefore, increasing safety competence is needed to support the quality of service by students during clinical practice. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of the Nursing Student Patient Safety Course (Nurse-PSC) on safety competence (knowledge, skills and attitudes) before and after the course. The study was a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design approach. The number of respondents was 46 students who attended the course for eight weeks using e-learning collaboration and face-to-face meetings. Student competence was measured by Quality and Safety Competence (QSC) for bachelor nursing students (QSC-BNS) with 42 questions. The results showed that the respondents' patient safety competence increased significantly after the intervention (ρ < 0.001), all sub-variables of knowledge, skills, and attitude also showed significant improvement (p < 0.001). Therefore, the patient safety course model can be used as an effective form of learning to improve safety competence in nursing students.
