Abstract

Hand Hygiene (HH) is the most effective step to reduce the transmission rate of patient care infections. Attempting to increase HH is carried out by using technology and handwashing compliance as an indicator of its success. The study aimed to describe information on technological developments in HH monitoring in hospitals and their effects on the level of compliance of health workers, especially nurses, in conducting HH. This study uses the literature review method, using the Science Direct, Scopus, Ebsco, and PROQUEST databases. The author uses keywords: "electronic hand hygiene monitoring" and "technology of hand hygiene monitoring" in searching the database. The development of technology in HH monitoring has increased in the last decade. The main goal of its development is to reduce the bias that occurs with control by a human. There are three kinds of HH technology, such as wireless tracking technology, auditing video, and chemical fluid sensor. The use of electronic HH monitoring can increase HH compliance, both assessed in terms of quality and quantity. In contrast, until now, there are no tools that can detect HH compliance in all HH WHO's moments. In its development, the successful use of these tools also experienced obstacles

Abstract

Nurse Work Stress During The COVID-19 Pandemic. COVID-19 does not only cause problems in physical conditions but also has the potential to cause problems in mental health, including for nurses who are at the forefront of handling COVID-19. This study aims to see a description of the work stress felt by nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic at a COVID-19 referral hospital. The sample consisted of 133 nurses. The results of the analysis show that the average work stress of nurses is 106.19 (32.2%). The highest perceived work stress was inadequate preparation 7.31 (47.8%), while the lowest perceived work stress was a conflict with nurses 10.02 (22.33%). The description of nurses' work stress in this study was lower than in previous studies. This can be because nurses are able to realize the pandemic conditions, work carefully and make better preparations. Management support is very much needed in making the right rules, especially in preventing and controlling the transmission of the Covid-19 virus.

Abstract

Patient safety culture is essential in creating a safe and healthy hospital environment. This study aims to portray nurses' perceptions of patient safety culture during the Pandemic in COVID-19 Referral Hospitals. This paper was a descriptive study. The population was nurses working in inpatient, Covid-19 isolation, intensive, and emergency rooms. In addition, the sample was 268 nurses with a stratified random sampling. Data collection used a questionnaire using Google Forms. It consisted of the demographic characteristics of respondents (name, gender, age, marital status, working time, education, nurse position, levels of nursing, and patient safety training) also nurses' perception of patient safety culture. The Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture (HSOPC) was an instrument to assess patient safety culture. Data analysis used IBM SPSS Statistics version 22.0 to describe the mean, median, minimum, and maximum values and presentation. Results showed that the mean patient safety culture among nurses in COVID-19 referral hospitals was 147.09 (62.55%). In addition, the lowest dimension of patient safety culture was feedback and communication (31.75%), while the highest was an organizational improvement (73.16%). Thus, the patient safety culture in the COVID-19 referral hospital still needed improvement. A good patient safety culture can increase patient safety and the quality of health services. Therefore, hospital management should optimize all dimensions of patient safety culture to ensure patient safety. Future research could explore predisposing factors of patient safety culture

Abstract

Nurses have a critical role in ensuring care delivery focuses on patient safety and injury prevention during treatment. Positive attitudes toward injury prevention can improve patient safety; however, several factors such as age and work experience are believed to have influenced nurses’ safety attitudes. A systematic review searched data through online databases such as Scopus, ScienceDirect, Wiley Online Library, and EBSCO for articles published between 2010 and 2020. The keywords used were "patient safety attitude AND" nurse "and" patient safety "AND "Nurse attitude" OR "factor analysis." The article selection process used the PRISMA method. The total number of articles obtained was 727, and then only 19 were used in this review after screening. Factors affecting patient safety attitudes are identified into four categories, namely (1) demographic characteristics such as age, genders, educational level, position, work experience, and working unit, (2) physical and psychological exhaustion, (3) obtainable education, and (4) organizational influence. Several factors can cause the nurses negative attitudes towards patient safety, such as burnout and fatigue. Moreover, other factors can make the nurses positive attitudes, such as education, training, and support from the organization. Therefore, efforts are needed to increase knowledge and the organizational influence as well as the management of nurse fatigue and burnout as part of improving nurses' safety attitudes. OR “patient safety” AND “nurse” OR “nurse attitude”.

Abstract

Patient safety in hospitals cannot be separated from the role of nurses in providing nursing care. Nursing students who practice in the room are part of the system and are required to have patient safety competencies. Therefore, increasing safety competence is needed to support the quality of service by students during clinical practice. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of the Nursing Student Patient Safety Course (Nurse-PSC) on safety competence (knowledge, skills and attitudes) before and after the course. The study was a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design approach. The number of respondents was 46 students who attended the course for eight weeks using e-learning collaboration and face-to-face meetings. Student competence was measured by Quality and Safety Competence (QSC) for bachelor nursing students (QSC-BNS) with 42 questions. The results showed that the respondents' patient safety competence increased significantly after the intervention (ρ < 0.001), all sub-variables of knowledge, skills, and attitude also showed significant improvement (p < 0.001). Therefore, the patient safety course model can be used as an effective form of learning to improve safety competence in nursing students.

Abstract

This study aims to provide recommendations for the implementation of COVID-19 patient transfers and handovers between rooms carried out by nurses to be more optimal. The method used is a case study at the Jakarta Military Hospital. The results of the study through interviews and document searches found that in the planning function, there is no SOP for handovers between rooms, the SOP for handovers between rooms is combined with the SOP for handovers between shifts where the SOP contains more of the handover process between shifts. In addition, there is no monitoring and evaluation (money) form for the implementation of handovers and documentation of handovers between rooms. In conclusion, the situation analysis obtained at the Jakarta Military Hospital, the handover process between rooms, and the COVID-19 patient transfer process still needs to be developed.
