Abstract

This study examines the transformation of the traditional Mesiwah Pare ritual into Mesiwah Pare Gumboh among the Dayak Deah community in Liyu Village, South Kalimantan. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research identifies significant impacts across three main dimensions: social, cultural, and economic. Socially, the ritual shifted from a kinship-based practice to a more structured collective celebration, fostering public solidarity while reducing the intimate familial role of individual farmers. Culturally, the integration of performing arts and festival formats has created a duality between preserving cultural identity and the potential erosion of sacred values. Economically, the ritual transitioned from a self-funded tradition to an event supported by sponsorships and government programs, opening local economic opportunities but raising concerns over cultural commodification. These findings highlight that cultural adaptation can strengthen community participation and promote local heritage, though it still requires careful strategies to preserve spiritual values amid modernization.

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas makna filosofis Patung Baluntang bagi masyarakat Dayak Ma’anyan di Desa Warukin, Kabupaten Tabalong, Kalimantan Selatan. Patung ini tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai karya seni, tetapi juga sebagai simbol identitas budaya dan penghormatan kepada leluhur. Melalui upacara Mambuntang, patung ini menguatkan hubungan sosial dan spiritual dalam komunitas. Namun, pelestariannya menghadapi banyak tantangan, seperti modernisasi, pengaruh budaya asing, dan penurunan pelaksanaan upacara tradisional akibat pergeseran agama. Selain itu, pencurian patung juga menjadi masalah, menyebabkan jumlah dan pemahaman masyarakat tentang maknanya berkurang. Dalam penelitian ini, pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif digunakan dengan mengumpulkan data melalui wawancara dengan anggota masyarakat dan observasi langsung. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa untuk memastikan Patung Baluntang tetap ada, perlu ada partisipasi aktif dari generasi muda dan dukungan dari pemerintah desa. Dengan edukasi dan kegiatan budaya, generasi muda dapat diajak untuk memahami pentingnya warisan budaya ini, sehingga Patung Baluntang tetap relevan dan dihargai di tengah perkembangan zaman.
