Abstract

Abstract

Biogas is a gas mixture produced by methanogenic bacteria that occurs in naturally decomposable materials under anaerobic conditions. Currently, alternativf energy is needed as a replacement source of energy derived from fossil and petroleum, therefore the utilization of waste into biogas is one solution that must be developed. The purpose of this research is to obtain the characteristics of the sedentary system reactor and biogas yield. In this study biogas testing of goat waste with rice straw mixture and EM4 to produce methane gas. The results showed that the gas capacity produced was 0.1675 m3 / s and the 0.0023 kg period, on the other hand the gas pressure obtained was 19.1 N / m2 with a temperature of 36 °C. While the time required for the formation of gas that is for 5 day after the introduction of raw material into biogas reactor settled system.

Abstract

Farmers cultivating rice fields in Hamlet III Gotong Royong Bukit Lawang Village are farmers who rent rice fields to cultivate and plant rice. There are models of cultivators who rent shares with the owner and there are also those who rent full processing with a rental fee for one harvest of IDR 300,000/1 row of rice fields. The purpose of this PKM is to help solve problems faced by partners by implementing Appropriate Technology independently in hamlet III gotong royong, Bukit Lawang village, especially in terms of: Making and implementing TTG, namely rice harvesting and cleaning/threshing machines needed for rice farmer. The implementation method begins with assessing the lack of technology and equipment in rice harvesting and cleaning/threshing machines, so far the process has been carried out by renting/hiring people who own the machines or done manually, so the method used to achieve the servant objectives is 1). Further surveys at partner locations to find out the working processes of rice harvesting and cleaning/threshing machines and the capacity of the results to be achieved; 2). Design and design of rice harvesting and cleaning/threshing machines using mechanical energy; 3) Manufacture of rice harvesting and cleaning/threshing machines. 4) Test and install rice harvesting and cleaning/threshing machines before giving them to partners. 5) handover of rice harvesting and cleaning/threshing machine units to partners. The community service activities that have been carried out illustrate the importance of the role of universities in applying theoretical knowledge into real practice by applying it directly to communities in need.

Abstract

Gading sub-district is in Datuk Bandar Tanjung Balai sub-district. In Gading sub-district there is Bandar Prosecutor River which flows into the Asahan River. So far, the people who live around that location have taken water from this river to meet their needs. The problem is that the water they consume is not suitable (smelly water, dark color when it rains, mossy). This activity aims to help partners' problems with the installation of water purification equipment. The implementation method begins with assessing the shortcomings of river water purification technology, then a site survey, equipment installation, and unit handover. The results of implementing this service have been realized at partner locations, clean water has been enjoyed by community. The standard of social life, especially the provision of clean water suitable for consumption for cooking, bathing, washing clothes and other needs, can be helped by this service where there are no similar activities in that location.

Abstract

Course scheduling is a complex problem in higher education because it must satisfy multiple constraints involving courses, instructors, rooms, and time slots. This study examines the impact of population size variation on the computational efficiency of a Genetic Algorithm (GA) applied to a medium-scale instance consisting of 35 courses, 15 instructors, 12 rooms, and 20 time slots. Simulations were conducted in MATLAB using population sizes ranging from 20 to 1000, while all other GA parameters were held constant to isolate the effect of population size. Solution quality was evaluated using a conflict-based fitness function, and all configurations yielded valid timetables with zero hard-constraint violations. Experimental results reveal a consistent non-linear relationship between population size and computation time. Statistical findings in Table 1—including mean values, standard deviations, and 95% confidence intervals—show that both very small and very large populations produce higher and more variable execution times. In contrast, population sizes of 300–400 achieve the lowest and most stable computation times, indicated by the smallest mean values and narrow confidence intervals. For the instance and configuration used in this study, this range serves as an effective starting point for population size tuning. Overall, the findings highlight the importance of empirical parameter selection to balance computational efficiency and solution quality in academic timetabling systems.
