Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menyelidiki dan memahami dampak dari pendekatan pembelajaran discovery learning terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa MTSN 2 Mataram. Kemampuan berkomunikasi secara matematis mempunyai peran penting dalam matematika, Karena mampu memberikan landasan logis dalam menyelesaikan masalah, mengubah deskripsi menjadi bentuk model matematika, serta menggambarkan ide atau gagasan matematika melalui uraian yang sesuai dan bermakna. Penelitian kuantitatif ini menggunakan penelitian jenis quasi eksperimen desain posttest only control design. Instrumen yang dipakai peneliti yakni instrumen observasi kegiatan belajar dan soal tes. Lembar observasi pembelajaran digunakan sebagai alat untuk mengukur tingkat pelaksanaan kegiatan pembelajaran discovery learning sesuai dengan alur dan urutan kegiatan belajar, sementara tes dilakukan untuk mengukur kemampuan komunikasi matematis dengan cara memberikan sejumlah dua butir soal teorema phytagoras. Analisis data menggunakan uji statistik inferensial dengan uji mann-whitney setelah melaksanakan uji normalitas dan uji homogenitas. Hasil penelitian ini mengindikasikan bahwa siswa yang mengikuti kegiatan belajar matematika dengan model discovery learning mempunyai kemampuan komunikasi matematis yang lebih tinggi secara signifikan dibandingkan dengan siswa yang menggunakan metode konvensional.

Abstract

International and national assessments, including PISA 2022, indicate that Indonesian students’ numeracy performance remains low. This situation highlights the need for instructional approaches that strengthen conceptual understanding and higher-order thinking. This study examined the effect of a deep-learning instructional approach on eighth-grade students’ numeracy skills, while considering mathematical disposition and gender. We employed a non-equivalent control group quasi-experimental design with 62 Grade 8 students from a public junior high school in West Lombok, Indonesia. The experimental group (n = 31) received deep-learning instruction through concept exploration, context-based discussion, collaborative problem solving, and guided reflection, while the control group (n = 31) received regular instruction. Instruments included a numeracy test and a mathematical disposition questionnaire that underwent expert validation and met reliability criteria. We analyzed the data using descriptive statistics and ANCOVA, controlling for baseline ability (pretest). The results showed higher numeracy scores in the experimental group across disposition categories. ANCOVA indicated significant main effects of instructional approach, gender, and mathematical disposition, whereas several interaction effects were not significant. These findings support the use of deep-learning instruction as a promising strategy to strengthen numeracy within the Merdeka Curriculum implementation.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are a core competency in mathematics learning, particularly in addressing problems that require higher-level reasoning. However, empirical evidence indicates that students’ critical thinking skills remain relatively low, resulting in limited ability to analyze, evaluate, and draw conclusions when solving complex mathematical problems. This study aimed to examine the effect of using Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)-based interactive e-modules on students’ critical thinking skills in mathematics learning. A quantitative approach was employed using a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. The participants consisted of 31 tenth-grade students selected through a saturated sampling technique. The research instruments included observation sheets and a critical thinking skills test, both of which were validated by experts and met reliability criteria. Data were collected through the administration of pretests and posttests and analyzed using a paired-sample t-test to determine differences in students’ critical thinking skills before and after the intervention. The results indicate that students’ critical thinking skills prior to the implementation of the HOTS-based interactive e-modules were relatively low. Following the intervention, students’ critical thinking skills showed a significant improvement, as evidenced by higher posttest scores compared to pretest scores and a statistically significant paired-sample t-test result (p < 0.05). These findings demonstrate that HOTS-based interactive e-modules have a significant positive effect on improving students’ critical thinking skills in mathematics learning. Therefore, the use of HOTS-based interactive e-modules is recommended as an alternative instructional resource to support the development of students’ higher-order thinking skills.

Abstract

Workshop Inovasi Media Pembelajaran Berbasis Web di MTs N 4 Lombok Tengah diselenggarakan pada tahun 2020 dengan tujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan kepada guru mengenai penggunaan teknologi dalam mendukung pembelajaran daring di masa transisi menuju era new normal. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah pendekatan partisipatif, dengan pemahaman teori dan praktik langsung penggunaan media pembelajaran berbasis web. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa sekitar 85% peserta merasa siap untuk melaksanakan pembelajaran berbasis web, sedangkan 15% masih merasa ragu-ragu. Respons peserta terhadap kegiatan ini sangat positif, dengan 90% peserta memberikan umpan balik yang sangat positif dan 10% lainnya positif. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan ini efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan guru dalam memanfaatkan teknologi untuk pembelajaran daring. Meskipun demikian, masih terdapat tantangan terkait infrastruktur dan kesiapan mental pengajar yang perlu diatasi untuk memastikan kelangsungan penggunaan teknologi dalam pembelajaran.
