Abstract

Honorific speech (politeness) or keigo is an ingrained part of the Japanese language and culture. The honorific speech may be difficult to say due to particular words, comprehension, and context-based in the Japanese business environment. As a work of modern culture, anime can be used to analyze and comprehend keigo in society. This study will analyze keigo based on context analysis and speaker strategies. The method employs a qualitative approach with data collected through content analysis from the first six famous anime works, namely Violet Evergarden. The two theories used in this study are Tokieda Motoki of Language Process Theory explained by Masako Naito and Brown & Levinson modified Politeness Theory by Hori. Based on the results, two theories could be interrelated to explain keigo, in which language process theory showed keigo politeness expression related to the ‘situation’ or ‘context’ or called bamen, and politeness theory employed the speaker's politeness strategy. The results demonstrated how the protagonist in the anime uses three types of keigo: sonkeigo, kenjougo, and teineigo, and how the situational context could affect the speaker's strategies. Situational context and speaker's strategies to use keigo could be utilized as educational tools in Japanese language pedagogy or another context.

Abstract

Ryousai kenbo created as country ideology to encourage women in Japan for not giving up their role as a mother. However, as the expansion of modernization, many opportunities for women to have career outside domestic roles are freely open. Today, ryousai kenbo could be considering as obstacle to aim women’s domestic role stability and social equality. The aim of the study is to identify the obstacle of balancing work life as ryousai kenbo and career women in Japan. This study is a qualitative approach by using analysis of article in media and survey. Theory is qualitative descriptive to find the analysis result. The method used is analysis of news article and survey. Based on the results, this study concludes the obstacle of women for work-life balance between ryousai kenbo and career women with four facts, which are 1) gender wages gap, 2) ryousai kenbo roles are limited to child rearing and house work, 3) mother as a career woman is facing difficult from resignation, 4) several regular regulations could not be implemented due to concerns of social pressure at work.

Abstract

This research aims to denote the phrase NEET, which became ‘niito’ in Japan. NEET stands for Not in Education, Employment, or Training at its inception and refers to social problems faced by productive forces who are not in education or employment. NEET has developed into a social problem in many other countries, and the word was later renamed ‘niito’ in Japan. According to the data collected, the term NEET in Japan morphed which spawned a variety of additional ‘niito’ that are not only related to the workforce but also individual psychological and mental health concerns. The method of research is qualitative with descriptive analysis. The social problems theory by Richard C. Fuller dan Richard R. Myers (1941) used to find the answer; demonstrates three steps of the problems which are awareness, policy determination and reform. As results of the research, NEET in Japan originally denoted the phrase productive forces solely did not wish to work. However, as the term evolved in society, it gave rise to various ‘niito’ meanings. Thus, in Japan, the term NEET refers to labor force concerns and individual psychological disorders that can contribute to a person becoming ‘niito’.

Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan adalah webinar soft skill bertema meningkatkan daya saing kompetensi personal dalam masa pandemi covid-19. Kondisi pandemi virus Covid-19 mengakibatkan institusi pendidikan diberikan tantangan untuk beradaptasi agar dapat mengembangkan potensi dalam menghasilkan pengetahuan komprehensif sesuai bidang keilmuan. Kemampuan berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Jepang memang dibutuhkan oleh perusahaan yang memiliki keterkaitan dan kerjasama dengan Jepang, namun ketika di lapangan, kemampuan ini harus didukung dengan kompetensi-kompetensi lain, baik berupa hard skill, maupun soft skill agar seorang staf mampu berkontribusi secara optimal. Kemampuan bahasa Jepang dan penguasaan hard skill lain pada umumnya menjadi modal awal untuk dapat memenuhi persyaratan agar dapat bergabung di suatu perusahaan. Namun, pada saat menjalankan aktivitas di perusahaan, penguasaan soft skill pendukung ternyata sangat berperan dan menentukan keberhasilan pelaksanaan tugas dan kelancaran pengembangan karier selanjutnya. Pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan dalam bentuk webinar yang mengundang narasumber yang berkaitan dengan peningkatan kompetensi personal terutama soft skill berupa kemampuan menerjemahkan, kemampuan melakukan presentasi dalam bahasa Jepang, dan hal-hal apa saja yang harus dan perlu disiapkan agar menjadi tenaga kerja yang siap pakai baik di perusahaan Jepang yang berdomisili di Indonesia maupun di Jepang.

Abstract

Bahan ajar merupakan salah satu komponen penting dalam pembelajaran guna meningkatkan kemampuan yang sesuai kebutuhan peserta didik. Salah satu bahan ajar yang sering digunakan adalah buku cetak dan modul, keduanya mempunyai tujuan yang sama yakni mempermudah pengajar dan peserta didik dalam menyampaikan materi pembelajaran. Buku cetak identik dengan buku ajar sedangkan modul adalah satu kesatuan bahan pembelajaran yang dapat dipelajari oleh peserta didik secara mandiri maupun dengan tutor/pendamping. Dalam pengabdian masyarakat Tahun Ajaran 2022-2023 ini, dilakukan kegiatan pembuatan modul JLPT N4 yang membahas moji goi (huruf dan kosakata) dan bunpou (tata bahasa). Modul ini disusun berdasarkan metode pendidikan berbasis kompetensi (competency-based education) dengan didukung metode Research and Development (RD).

Abstract

Self-confidence is also known as Self efficacy, which means a person's belief in their ability to exercise a form of control over their own functioning and events in the environment. Low self efficacy in students can make students engage in procrastination behavior, this is the basis for this study. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship between self afficacy and students' academic procrastination behavior. In this study, the method used was quantitative with the type of correlation research, the population in this study was 360 students. The sample of this study took 20% of the population so that the sample used was 72 students determined by cluster random sampling technique. Based on the Pearson product moment correlation test, the calculated r value is 0.694, while the r table for a sample size of 72 is 0.229. Therefore, 0.694> 0.229, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between self efficacy and academic procrastination behavior in SMA Negeri 3 Pemalang. The positive relationship means that if self efficacy is high then academic procrastination behavior is low and vice versa if self efficacy is low then academic procrastination behavior is high.

Abstract

Buddhism has had a profound and lasting impact on Japanese daily life, influencing everything from social structures and personal values to rituals and aesthetics. The spread of Buddhism to Japan, beginning around the 6th century, introduced various philosophies, practices, and customs that continue to shape Japanese culture today. One of the most popular Buddhist sects among the Japanese is Nichiren, which has been quite active in spreading its teachings, even internationally. According to the official Nichiren website, 185 daily Japanese vocabulary terms are found to have been unconsciously shaped by Buddhist thought. Foreign learners of Japanese, particularly those who are not adherents of Buddhism, may face challenges in accurately translating these terms into their native languages. Based on this, vocabulary derived from Buddhist thought is analyzed.

Abstract

This study analyzes how Japanese people love nature, as presented in the movie Sweet Bean. Nihonjin no shizenkan is considered one of the Japanese ideal philosophies for valuing nature. The artwork sometimes portrays the abstract concept and how people adore their environment. This study examines the depiction of nihonjin no shizenkan philosophy in contemporary Japanese society, exemplified by the 2015 movie Sweet Bean. The data were gathered using a qualitative approach and the content analysis technique. The theory employed is the shizenkan no kyouiku concept, demonstrated by Sugai Hiroyuki, which refers to the people's way of life to seeing and value nature by heart, represented by back to nature, being one with and an act to respect nature. The film demonstrates that individuals in Japan, limited to their age, continue to practice nihonjin no shizenkan, which is presented by viewing nature as friends or a living thing. Based on the data, we split into two categories: (1) a person can communicate or interact with nature, and (2) see nature material as a living thing. The movie concludes that the interaction between people and nature significantly impacts someone's life and gives influence on businesses. This study can show how the Japanese value nature and any further cultural understanding.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada dampak permasalahan lingkungan dari perkembangan jidouhanbaiki di Jepang dan bagaimana upaya yang dilakukan oleh berbagai pihak seperti asosiasi jidouhanbaiki, perusahaan jidouhanbaiki, dan pemerintah untuk mengatasi masalah lingkungan tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif melalui pendekatan kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang dilakukan penulis adalah studi kepustakaan dengan memperoleh data dari buku, jurnal, internet, artikel bahasa Jepang, dan berita yang mendeskripsikan tentang jidouhanbaiki di Jepang. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari perkembangan jidouhanbaiki di Jepang terdapat masalah lingkungan yang ditimbulkan yaitu konsumsi daya yang besar, pemanasan global dari bahan pendingin jidouhanbaiki, dan peningkatan limbah botol PET yang menjadikan Jepang menjadi salah satu negara teratas dalam konsumsi per kapita yang tinggi yaitu rata-rata masyarakat Jepang membeli 183 botol PET per tahun. Japan Vending System Manufacturers Association, Japan Soft Drink Association, perusahaan Suntory, perusahaan DyDo DRINCO hingga pemerintah Jepang melakukan berbagai upaya untuk mengatasi masalah lingkungan tersebut dengan cara daur ulang botol PET, tindakan penghematan energi dalam mengurangi konsumsi energi secara signifikan menggunakan teknologi dan melakukan perubahan refrigeran (bahan pendingin) yang lebih ramah lingkungan untuk melindungi lapisan ozon dan mencegah pemanasan global. Kata kunci: teknologi; jidouhanbaiki; masalah lingkungan; limbah; botol PET
