Abstract

This study was to investigate Indonesian English University students’ perception on plagiarism in an online world. This study was a mixed-method with explanatory sequential design. The population and sample in this study were 633 EFL students in a University in North Bali, Indonesia. Two instruments were employed to collect the data, namely a questionnaire and an interview guide which were developed based on three dimensions, namely knowledge about plagiarism, attitudes toward plagiarism, and beliefs to prevent plagiarism. The questionnaire consisted of 14 valid statements while the interview guide consisted of 19 valid questions. The data were analyzed descriptively. The result showed that 62.88% of EFL students reported to have positive and very positive knowledge about plagiarism, 69.87% of EFL students reported to have positive and very positive attitudes toward plagiarism, and 72.27% of EFL students reported to have positive and very positive beliefs to prevent plagiarism. This implies that the EFL students were aware about plagiarism and they tended not to plagiarize on their assignments. However, finding trusted sources and paraphrasing sentences were the students’ most challenges on plagiarism in the online world. Familiarizing with concept, understanding, referencing style and system, like APA, Mendeley, and subscribing to online database, like ERIC or DOAJ are highly suggested.

Abstract

This research intends to analyze how Higher Order Thinking Skills are reflected in summative assessment used by Tenth-grade English teachers from HOTS perspective based on Revised Bloom's Taxonomy. This research used qualitative research with a content analysis method to know the extent of HOTS items that are reflected in the teacher-made test. To collect the data, document analysis and interviews were applied. From the data that have been obtained, it was found out that the HOTS-based item used by the teachers was still relatively low. There were only 6 out of 125 items that can be categorized as HOTS-based items with a percentage of 4.8%. HOTS-based items that have been found were also limited to the Analyze category (C4). In the C4 level, three indicators or sub-skills were included such as differentiating, organizing, and attributing. Among six HOTS-based items, 2 items were categorized as differentiating indicators, 1 item belonged to the organizing indicator, and 3 items were attributing indicator. Furthermore, the result of the interview indicated that the teachers need to learn more about HOTS to get a better understanding in constructing HOTS-based items.

In the interview guide there are two indicators that are problematic, namely: Teacher teaching skills and teacher teaching habits. In the first indicator, the teacher's lack of ability to manage teaching time means that the learning process becomes less effective. In the second indicator, teachers do not prepare the learning media needed by students. That is the result of research that there are still many techniques and ways to apply the four stages of teaching writing using YouTube videos.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the significant effect of TBLT-based digital storybook on eighth grade students’ speaking skill in SMP Laboratorium Undiksha Singaraja. This study was quantitative research which used quasi-experimental design. This research assigned two classes; experimental which consisted of 19 students and control class which consisted of 18 students. The two classes were given different treatment; TBLT-based digital storybook was treated in Experimental class and Teacher’ usual method was treated in Control Class. Speaking test was used to obtain speaking score. T-test formula was used to analyze the data. The result showed that there was a significant effect of TBLT-based digital storybook on students’ speaking skill. It was proven by the Sig. (2-tailed) value was 0.000. Thus, the significance value of the tests was less than 0.05. This shows that there is significant effect on students’ speaking skill who taught using TBLT-based digital storybook compared with student taught by using teacher usual method. Additionally, the effect size value measured using Cohen’s d was 1.291. This large effect means that the implementation of TBLT-based digital storybook can provide a very real influence in the improvement of students' speaking skills compared to the teacher’s usual method.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to look at the major impact that TBLT-based digital storybooks have on the reading abilities of ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri 6 Singaraja. This study employed a quasi-experimental methodology and was quantitative in nature. Two classes were assigned to this study: a control class with 31 students and an experimental class with 33 students. The two classrooms received different treatments: the Experimental class used a digital storybook based on TBLT, while the Control class used the teacher's regular approach. The reading score was calculated using a reading test. The data was analyzed using the t-test formula. The outcome demonstrated that the TBLT-based digital storybook had a significant effect on the reading proficiency of the students. The Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.036 demonstrated this. As a result, the tests' significance value was less than 0.05. This demonstrates that, as compared to students taught using the teacher's regular method, there is a significant influence on the reading skills of students who are taught using TBLT-based digital storybooks. Furthermore, 0.537 was the effect size value as determined by Cohen's d. This significant impact indicates that, in comparison to the teacher's typical approach, the use of TBLT-based digital storybooks can have a very tangible impact on students' reading skill development.
