Abstract

Humans experience several health disorders, including sleep pattern disorders, where clients complain of difficulty sleeping at night, frequently wake up during the night and are unable to fall back asleep, and appear weak. Abstract

Pneumonia is an acute infection that attacks lung tissue (alveoli) caused by bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Pneumonia occurs when germs defeat the immune system, causing inflammation of the lungs and causing the air sacs in the lungs to become inflamed and swollen. In 2020, pneumonia was still the second leading cause of death in toddlers in Indonesia. The purpose of this paper is to determine nursing care for children with pneumonia by applying the prone position and chest physiotherapy to maintain airway clearance in hospitalized children. The method used is a case study (single case study) which is carried out based on the stages of nursing care including assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation of nursing. The results of the study showed that the data found in children were that the child appeared short of breath, chest wall retraction (intracosta), thick white sputum, and there were additional breath sounds (ronchi). The nursing problem in children is that airway clearance is ineffective, so the planned intervention is airway management with actions taken including applying the prone position and chest physiotherapy which showed that the problem was resolved. From this study, it can be concluded that the prone position and chest physiotherapy can improve airway clearance in children with pneumonia. Furthermore, it is expected that these actions can be implemented in the health service setting by nurses.

Abstract

Background: Low-birth-weight infants are vulnerable to feeding difficulties, hypothermia, impaired growth, and nutritional problems because of physiological immaturity. Infant massage and kangaroo mother care are non-pharmacological nursing interventions that may support physiological stability, breastfeeding, and weight gain. Purpose: To describe the implementation of infant massage and kangaroo mother care in supporting weight gain in a low-birth-weight infant. Method: A nursing case study was conducted using the nursing care process. The participant was one clinically stable low-birth-weight infant with a nursing diagnosis of risk for nutritional deficit. Data were collected through nursing assessment, physical examination, observation, medical record review, and daily body-weight monitoring. Infant massage and kangaroo mother care were implemented according to hospital procedures during five days of hospitalization. Results: The infant’s body weight increased from 2,150 g to 2,300 g over five days. Improvement was also observed in sucking ability and general clinical condition. No adverse events related to the interventions were reported during the observation period. Conclusion: Infant massage and kangaroo mother care may support weight gain and clinical stability in low-birth-weight infants. However, findings from a single case should be interpreted cautiously, and further studies with larger samples and longer follow-up are needed.

Abstract

Premature infants with Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS) often experience physiological instability due to immature organ systems and stressful NICU environments. Developmental care interventions are urgently needed to support stabilization and optimize neonatal outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate the application of Biological Mother Sounds combined with Therapeutic Touch in premature infants with RDS. A descriptive case study method was used, involving one premature infant receiving these interventions as part of nursing care. Data were collected through observation of cardiorespiratory parameters and oxygen saturation. The results showed improvement in oxygen saturation, respiratory stability, and reduced signs of distress after intervention. In conclusion, the combination of Biological Mother Sounds and Therapeutic Touch may serve as a supportive, non-invasive nursing intervention to enhance physiological stability in premature infants with RDS..Keywords: Preterm infant; RDS; Biological Maternal Sounds; Maternal touch therapy; Cardiorespiratory stability
